So we all know that unless the entire starting five for the Blazers is sidelined, they are a lock for one of the top playoff spots in the West. Also the Spurs, Nuggets, and that team from LA are gonna be a lock. Warriors have a chance to make it back with some off season improvements. The Suns will play faster without Shaq, and the Memphis Grizzlies could possibly make some noise with the additions of Z-Bo, Hasheem, and maybe they will even find The Answer (Allen Iverson) on their roster. What teams do you think will have the best chance at filling out the remaining four spots in the Western Conference?? I think it will be the same as last year except Houston and NOLA will be out. Suns and Warriors in.

    "team from LA"
    You mean the clippers?

The great thing about sports is that you can never tell who's going to go on a good run at the start/end/middle of the season and lock up a playoff spot.  That said, I don't think Houston is going to miss out on the playoffs, they've been consistent first-rounders for a few years.  It's a lot easier to win when you can build around a competent, team-leading center.

Also, I have to agree with your first four pics.  Blazers, Lakers, Spurs, Nuggets are all pretty much a lock for playoff berth, less injuries destroy any given team.  Beyond those, though, I don't know that any one team can be considered competition at this point unless a team really starts to shine this year (AI with the grizzlies might do that).

I think you are correct on your top 4. These are the same top four from last year. I see Houston sinking, and possible moves by New Orleans and OKC. I don't think OKC will make playoffs, but I see them with an improved record. Utah still has Jerry Sloan, and as long as they have him, I don't see them out of the race. The NW division and the SW division, will still lead the way in the Western conference. The Lakers are the only team I see doing anything in the Pacific.

The NW division will still be a dog fight between the Blazers, Nuggets and Jazz, although, on paper, the Jazz shouldn't be much of a problem. But again, you still have the Sloan thing going on.

Is anyone else besides me still excited about the fact that we tied for the second best record in the West last year?

How quickly things can change - I've gone from being interested/concerned about the Blazers even making a playoff spot, whereas this year I'll be looking and cheering much more for us to take the Division!  :)

    i'll do this in order

lakers, spurs/blazers (i believe it's going to be close), nuggets, dallas, suns, jazz, hornets.

Dallas had a pretty good off-season adding Marion and Gooden. Though they did lose a great back-up energy player in Bass Marion should add some defensive consistency at the 3 spot. As for the suns, if Amare can stay healthy and Nash as well they can make the playoffs.

People say Grizzlies will make some noise and OKC. but not enough to make playoffs. Grizzlies will get around high 30's to low 40's in the win column. OKC will get around somewhere in the 30's. Warriors are snubbed out on my list due to their current drama with Stack Jack. If rumor holds true that he wants out it's game over for them. If he stays then Hornets will be snubbed.

I cant see the spurs having the second spot over the Blazers.  We tied with them last year and the addition of Jefferson and Mcdyess will not make them much better.  Mcdyess will replace Gooden.  Jefferson will add another shooter, but the Blazers will be better in every position.  We will have a better PG, Roy, Batum, Aldridge, and Oden will all be much improved.  Plus we will have Martel Webster back.  So I think the Blazers will be number two for sure, and maybe even number one.  The Lakers wont be able to repeat last years season.  I am sure the Blazers can come up with a few more wins...  So I will say it goes like this:
    1. Lakers/Blazers
    2. Blazers/Lakers
    3. Spurs
    4. Mavs
    5. Nuggets
    6. Jazz
    7. Suns
    8. Hornets/Warriors/Grizzlies

Hey don't ever count the Spurs out on anything, did you see what they did last year with all the injuries they had to go through and having to patch up a team almost every single night with aging vets and subpar bench players yea thats right they made it to the #2 spot in the West, haha that's not a team to take lightly. The Lakers of course shouldn't be either just because we all hate the guts outta those guys means nothing those will still be tough games against them and they will be battling for that top spot regardless.....

With that said here's my rundown:

    1. Spurs
    2. Lakers
    3. Blazers
    4. Nuggets
    5. Mavs
    6. Warriors
    7. Jazz
    8. Clippers

I am a fan of the beautiful cohesiveness of my blazers, reminding me of why I've loved this franchise for much of my young life despite being a texan....

I thought the T-Wolves were gonna challenge teams for the last couple playoff spots. But then Minnesota stripped McHale of his coaching job. Then that Rubio dude wimped out, and doen't want to play against NBA competition yet. I don't think the Wolves are gonna do too hot this season. For the 8th spot I'm now sayin'...Go Kings! SERGIO!!!

Kings are doomed with Sergio on the squad if they give him ample playing time.

Wolves were never going to be a playoff contender regardless. They lost Mike Miller and Foye and added Ramon Sessions.

I agree Houston misses the playoffs, and I think if the Nuggets have one or more semi-serious injuries they will too.  What improvements did the Nuggets make in the offseason?  I know of three departures.  LA, P-Town, SA, and Phoenix will dominate the wild, wild West.  Let's get ready for an awesome season Portland!
