I have no faith in Olshey considering how many great bench players were available last year and not touched.

I mean Chris Anderson a rim protecting center, Kenyon Martin a great post defender and solid shot blocker as well, Matt Barnes tough defender and good three point shooter, Randy Foye and the list goes on and he did nothing.

I have complete faith in Olshey. I wouldn't have gambled on Anderson or Martin mainly because of their baggage and effect on a young roster. They are playing for a job now and playing OK but there's a reason they were jobless most of last season. Neil wasn't alone in passing on them and they're both on teams with dominant vets to keep them in line. Martin has played with Kidd for years and that's a plus in NY.

Also add that iof their was one player I'd gamble on that has character issues, it'd be Cousins. When that kid grows up he's going to be a beast.

You need only look at Olsheys body of work to see that he's quite capable of putting a squad together. You didnt possibly think that the Blazers were going to kick up major dust this season did you ? Any of those players you suggested would have done two things... 1. Cut into our $11.5 Mil or whatever it is... And 2. Neither would have been around for long or been a longterm solution. This isnt going to be a quick fix. The teams that picked up those guys that you're talking about are contenders, we are not. Not even close.

Funny cause Barnes, Anderson, Foye, and Martin all signed a one year deal this year, which means our precious 11.5 million in cap room would have been safe.

Well, those players seem to have done alright for themselves. Andersen won't leave the heat because they absolutely love him down in Miami. Foye seems to be the one guy that I would go after for sure. He shoots it well and can play off the bench. Going after him wouldn't affect our pick and we could still use that as a trade chip to get Deandre Jordan. The free agent pool will certainly be deep this year because if the luxury tax coming in.

I trust Olshey to put a solid squad together. We will make the playoffs and we will make it past the 1st round...

cmeese are you just trolling trying to start controversy? With Olshey retaining Hickson, picking up Maynor, signing Claver, Barton, Leonard, and LILLARD R.O.Y. He is setting our team up for the future. He is even cutting players that are truly not worth keeping, and he is looking to get some great value for Hickson. He is a smart GM making well thought out decisions on where our team is going. Look at what he did for the Clippers! One of the laughing stocks of the NBA. You are dismissive on what he has done, when he is actually making smart moves. The only move I feel didn't work out was signing Freeland. He isn't psychic though and not every move he makes will be a golden idea. BUT if Freeland is his only misstep, than kudos to you Olshey. That's not even that bad.

Sure beats having Larry Miller at the helm in my opinion. This season was a transition season with 5 rookies and I think it served it's purpose. Next season should be the one to have expectations beyond the first round of the playoffs. I prefer the glass half full outlook to the glass half empty.

While Olshey may have gotten the Freeland signing wrong, I think if we take a look at all from his perspective we can see that we have a young core. They're young and clearly talented. Now the key is to build a real winning mentality in the locker room. Olshey has said he wants to trade for a solid centre, who at this point may be Deandre Jordan. So that means he will use the remaining cap space to put other guys around our rookies to teach them and help them when things get tough.

We really needed that this year, especially when we hit that slide at the end of the season. Teams like San Antonio, the Bulls and Celtics may have struggles at times but the fact that they have real winners and a winning mentality in their teams means they will always bounce back. We showed fight right at the start when we were the 4th quarter kings before the break. But over a long season our young team just couldn't keep that up and it showed in the last 10 games.

Im sure we'll recover next season. But i trust Olshey to build a more competitive and complete team for next season...

Ya 33 wins suggests he nailed or we sucked I tend to think being 16 games under .500 is pretty terrible.

Yeah playing without three of your starters does tend to be a bit tough. If you truly watched the games, you would be praising Coach Stotts and Olshey. Seriosuly, why do you keep wanting to change our core?

Funny Matthews missed 13 games the most of the starters 4 of which came last week. Batum missed 9 games 7 at the end of the year. LA missed 8 games including the last two.

JJ missed only 2 and Lillard 0.

That is 19 games missed among 5 players if you take out the games we were resting players for draft position. That is an average of 3.8 missed games per starter, which is pretty good.

But WHEN they missed those game matter. Mostly at the losing streak, we lost most of our starters, which included our best perimeter defender and our best scorer.

No one expected a team with 5 rookies (basically 7 cause nolan and luke barely plyed the year before) to make the playoffs. No one even expected us to win 25 games. The fact that we we competing for a playoff spot up until the last month was great. So i wouldnt say we were tanking the season at all.

I think it's also worth mentioning how many games we lost that went down to the wire or were 6 pts or less. This rookie laden team competed all season until we had 3rd string players in 2nd string roles due to injury. I credit Stotts for some amazing efforts even if they resulted in losses at times. For half the season we had one of the best starting 5 players in the league on paper. I think they played their collective hearts out and what they should get for their efforts should be a lot of praise.

I'm in full agreement with River here. Olshey got the Stotts appointment spot on! Stotts' ability to bring the best the best out of our young team is exemplary. He's definitely pulled a masterstroke of a coaching job. I think it's important now that we bring in a defensive tutor to teach our young players to play defense the right way.

Its clearly a trend among younger teams in the league that they don't play good defense at all. The Wizards, Bobcats, Hornets and the Cavs are all examples of teams with a great upside, but play little to no defense for long periods...

If you ask me, we should try and get another defensive assistant coach to help our team in that area. Stotts is an offensive genius as was seen in his days with Dallas so now we need a defensive coordinator to help us. Getting defensive players is one thing, but we need someone to help bring it all together.

I thought the Wizards played decent defence? Like how The Blazers surprisingly are good offensively.

The Wizards were one of the leagues best defenses this year, their issue was terrible offensive production.

Honestly I think one of our core players is going to be gone. Lillard is probably the only one safe at this point.I do believe Olshey and Stotts decided to leave the team as is for this year to get a good eval and what trade aspects they had. I believe we will see 5-7 new faces next year and at least 2 will be in the starting lineup. BTW I do not count JJ as a core player.
