This team is just not good enough simple as that so it is time to blow it up and build a real contender for a change.

PG I like Lillard he can score, pass and looks in control on the court. Also I hear he is working with Gary Payton this summer to improve his defense, which while improving is still pretty lackluster. Plus, I had to keep somebody from this team didn't I?

PG Eric Maynor was a cheap pick up and was worth the gamble he had some nice moments but he is not the kind of player I want as a back up PG. Lillard will likely be a 20 point scorer next season in the NBA so offense is not what we need behind him, which is why I am recommending Iman Shumpert. Shumpert can play all three back court spots and defend each equally. Plus he is likely easier to acquire than Avery Bradley.

SG I like Wesley Matthews he plays with heart and intensity. He is a little too streaky for me but he is certainly a worthwhile player to keep on the team. 40% from 3 point range and big time defense means he can start on my team anytime.

SG Tony Allen He is an elite defender and a free agent, he won't light anyone up from the field but that won't matter since his real value is leadership and smothering perimeter defense.

SF I would love to put Lebron, Durant, Melo or even Paul George in this spot but since no of them can be acquired so I am taking Jimmy Butler. Butler is an improving offensive player and will likely make his first NBA All Defensive team next year. He might not be available but Batum is better right now so he could pry Butler from the Bulls.

SF Matt Barnes there are a lot of SF's that were intriguing but Barnes is a free agent and should be affordable to sign, which gave him the bump. Barnes is a good perimeter shooter, rebounder and defender a great guy to have coming off the bench.

PF Taj Gibson His salary fits in the Butler for Batum deal and his post defense fills a major need on this team. While he would command a large salary as a back up PF his post defense would be a god send on a team that has lacked a true post presence since a healthy Oden, Camby tried but he was just a little too old.

PF Lamarcus Aldridge he plays way too passive at times but his talent level is undeniable, I considered trading him but there was really no offer that made sense and provided fair value to be found.

C This is where things get very difficult. Ideally the team would add someone like Joakim Noah, or Marc Gasol but neither of those guys will be available. Greg Oden if healthy would be a nice gamble he has probably burnt his bridge in Portland and no one knows if he can hold up over a NBA season but considering what else is out there, he is worth the risk as long as anything beyond the first season is not guaranteed.

C Meyers Leonard Portland drafted the wrong guy the should have moved up to take Drummond but that did not happen so now we are stuck hoping he learns to play some defense cause so far his defense has been dreadful.

C Marcin Gortat Hopefully Phoenix goes after Bynum by doing so Gortat will be put on the block. He is not a perfect fit but considering paying 5 million to sign Pachulia or Dalembert or playing Leonard and Oden is too scary not to consider him. He should be cheap to acquire but if another teams offers a 1st rounder for him this team will be looking at plan B or C and hoping Gibson and LA play well together.

I like the Batum for Butler and Gibson trade since I mentioned it awhile ago. I am wondering how you plan to get Iman Shumpert or Avery Bradley? Also even though I also recommended Gortat I am not that excited about the prospect of having him on my team. I would like to see if we could deal LA for a dominant defensive big man like Marc Gasol.

Wow alot of trading Aldridge, those are decent trades but could go either way. Anyone know who larry sanders was before this year? I wouldnt give up on Batum for butler that quick, again anyone heard of Jimmy butler before this year? They could be good trades, but they are also gambles and could easily backfire.

Butler was a rookie last year and I heard of him after watching him lock down Kobe Bryant in prime time. However, I believe he is a player on the rise and it is important to acquire players like that before they become untouchable. Look at how much Houston benefited from taking a small gamble on Harden.

I like Larry Sanders but him and a 1st round pick is not exactly equal compensation for LA I would rather aim for someone like Serge Ibaka.

Ibaka for Aldridge??? I don't see the Thunder giving up their star defender and improving offensive option for LA. If they did that, I would want Martin as part of the deal and it would mean getting rid of another bad contract if possible. I don't see it happening and I frankly don't like the idea of losing Aldridge at this stage. He deserves another season alongside Lillard.

At SF I still like Batum, before the injury to his wrist, I thought he was just beyond the borderline for an all star. The other SF options out west were slim at best. If we could get Gibson for Hickson in a sign and trade and then could go after another Center in the offseason with our remaining cap room it would be great.

doubt it unless they picked up a solid defender to fill the role that ibaka is playing for them plus they have 2 big scoring options right now why would they need aldridge who is a downgrade to ibaka when it comes to defense?

LA is a better player than Ibaka that much is for sure but Ibaka is rapidly improving. If I am Portland I would ask for Ibaka and Collison. Ibaka is a great shot blocker and help defender but he struggles against bigger post players adding Collison would fix that problem.

    lillard/mccollum/smith

    wesley/barton/butler

    batum/budinger/butler

    aldridge/o'neal/freeland

    dalemert/leonard/o'neal

this team is perfect in my mind

This team is clearly not great and we all agree on that. But we do know where part of the solution lies.

We need a good defensive Center who will provide genuine presence in the post and grab offensive boards because we're not a great team on the glass at either end.

Then we need a bench scorer and something close to an elite perimeter defender who can defend the oppositions best scorers when Wes and Nic take a seat on the bench. I like Barton at the 2 and he brings some athleticism and raw fight to the floor. A good defender coming off the bench will allow Wes to be more aggressive defensively in the 1st half.

simple, sign bayless to 2 year and 3.5 million per. draft mcollum. sign robin lopez to 3 year and 7 million per. o'neal to 3 year and 3 million per. sign budinger to 3 year and 2.5 million per.waive freeland. draft kenny kadji in the 2nd round and trade other pick for 1 million cash

    lillard/bayless/mcollum

    wesley/barton/mcollum

    batum/budinger/claver

    aldridge/o'neal/kadji

    lopez/leonard/kadji

we been forgetting about lopez, he seem perfect for our team. he is young and have rebounding and defense skill. we can win 50+ game with is kind of roster. all of the starter back up can play 15 mins. so this is the PERFECT TEAM

Lopez has a 3 year deal with the Hornets and while it is partially not guaranteed he certainly played well enough for them to keep him around at his 5 million a year rate.

There is no pressure when they already have him on contract for ~5 million for two years if they want him. If he is cut by the Hornets because they refused to pay 5 million a season why on earth would we pay him 7 per. He is a fine player but he is likely not going anywhere.

With the Unibrow being injury proned, look for the Pelicans{ hahahahahahahaha} to keep Lopez. BLASER i said before that i personally wouldnt mind seeing Bynum alongside L.A.. If anyone can sell him on the idea i think its Olshey. I also would like to see Wesley come off the bench. Batum can guard 1 thru 3. JJ is either outta here or he's going to take less money to stay if he likes it here. Mareese Speights is also on my radar to back up L.A., but what the hell do i know about salary caps and who commands what ? We are in a position to do big thangs. Putting the right pieces around Lillard is crucial. And few rookies have been able to command the respect that Dame has.

    Bynum/Leonard

    L.A./Freeland

    Batum/Claver

    ?/Matthews

    Lillard/Maynor/?

I am a fan of our new roster playing with and for eachother.

Brandan Wright is fine he is capable of putting up solid numbers in 20 minutes. His defense is much better than JJ's but outside of PF's like Babbitt most post players are. He can score and will block a couple shots but his rebounding while not terrible won't make anyone forget JJ. Remember the dude is 205-215 and 6'10" his body cannot possibly hold up banging in the post for 30 minutes a night.

There is a reason the dude has been in the league 5 seasons posted a PER over 20 in 3 and still does not average 20 minutes a game.

I think waitin out the Bynum and Howard drama may just be a mistake. That could take weeks and I think we need to get the best available guys as soon as possible. Gortat looks to be the most likely guy on the block at Phoenix while Zaza will be the guy who ATL cut loose to create a roster spot for Dwight in his hometown. If I had a choice, I'd like us to go after Gortat. His presence in the post will be a real bonus. Pane because we defend the 3 point line so well I think his defensive rebounding will be key.

In short, again, we NEED a defensive centre like Zaza. But I think Gortat will be a better all-round player at that position. We could pull off a sign and trade for him and maybe include a 2nd round pick as a sweetener.

I also agree with Siccolo! We have to get it right in the draft this time. Last year we got Lillard so that was great and this year we'll need to get it right again! CJ McCollum is the consensus pick it seems and if he gives us anything near half of what Lillard has done it will be an improvement on what our bench currently gives. I'm not sure about him defensively but I know that his scoring is quite good. If he maintains his ability to shoot the 3 he could open the floor when he and Maynor are in together. I know the that a 3pt shot in college is more like a long 2pt in the NBA but if he makes that shot, it will open things up in the paint for LA and whoever else plays the center position for us

We have 8 players guaranteed for next season. Lillard, Mathews, Barton, Batum, Claver, Aldridge, Freeland and Leonard. Combining around: 43M Altough, Freeland(3M) may be used on a trade+pick for something worth the try...

Some young players and lots of potential to develop. We need to add experience to the roster. In those 8, only 1 has more then 4 years of experience in the Nba, Lamarcus Aldridge! And 5 of the others are rookies! So we have quite enough young talents, and potential to work with.

I think we should add quality and experience to our team, . .. A team needs more then star players! The way i see it, we dont need more star players, we already have Lillard and Aldridge. But if we could get a Player that could carry us to next level just by signing him, off course i wouldnt say no.

So assuming we have the 1st round pick and 1/2 2nd round picks. I dont really know what to do with them, maybe trade/sell them along with Freeland, for a good bench player, is best to we can do. Before any signing i would waive right away N. Smith, E. Williams, L. Babbit, J. Jeffries and S. Pavlovic, In Maynor´s case i would love to keep him but i think we should add some thoughness to our team so i would let him go, finally JJ Hickson, i would say good bye to him, either just let him go or doing a sign and trade.

Now, how I would use around 17M in the signings?

1st The starting Center we missed this season, i would spend most off our cap space in this, up to 10M... But after reading something saying that Olshey could try to trade for a Center instead of a FA, i dont really know wich way to go... But i would aim to get someone like Javale Mcgee, Varejao, Gortat or Robin Lopez in a trade if they are available. Or in Free agency, a experienced Center like Kaman, Dalembert, Pachulia or even Jeferson. MY choice may be considered risky, but i would give a try to Javale Mcgee! I just dont know if our picks and Freeland are enogh to get anyone worth the starting center spot in a trade. The main thing to retain is that we would have 10M to spend in a Starting Center along with our picks and even Freeland....

Pekovic, Bynum and Howard are out of equation cause they will get 15M+ almost for sure...

2nd Sign Delonte West: 2M, he can play hard,he handles the ball very well, he knows how to defend, and he´s experienced, even with the risk of his behavior I think we need a though player like him behind Lillard as our backup PG, he can also play SG.

3rd Sign Anthony Morrow: 3M, a SG that would give us a candidate for 6th man of the year, an offenssive wing, 3pt specialist, that we needed so much this season.

4th Sign Brandan Wright: 2M, a backup PF that can score, rebound and knows how to defend, basically to allow Alridge to rest some time, he can also play center. He may not be as good rebounder as Hickson but overall he will be an improvement.

5th Just to finish the roster, sign a couple vets (PG and SF, even a PF depending on Freeland) with the room exception if needed.

    Cap Limit: 60M

PG: Lillard / (Delonte West: 2M) / ( vet min PG)

    SG: Mathews / (A.Morrow: 4M) / Barton

SF: Batum / Claver / (vet min SF)

PF: Aldridge / (Brandan Wright: 2M) / Freeland (if we doesnt get traded/waived)

    C: (Javale Mcgee:10M) / Leonard

    Total: 60M

What do you think blazers fans?

PS: IF we do use the 1st Round Pick, i would draft Gorgui Dieng. if BY MIRACLE we get a top3 pick, i would chose Mclemore or Oladipo

So that dude wants us to pay robin lopez, not brooke lopez, but robin lopez 7 mill a year? the whole issue here is our team is cheap,we cant build a winning team with just 60mill. Javell mcgee makes 11million with denver,I like your lineup, very smart and well thought out,Brandon wright an anthony morrow are actually great ideas.Wright had alot of potential coming out,and morrow can or could score at one time.Good ideas,i was wrong,we could build a WINNING team with 60mil,its a contending team that we cant do with just 60mil

Did everyone forget about Tyreke Evans. He is the perfect fit for this team. He shot 48% from the field and even got up to a respectable 34% from 3. He posted a PER over 18 and despite playing most of his minutes at SG or SF still posted almost 5 rebounds and 4 assists per game.

His position flexibility alone makes him valuable off the bench. While Evans is not a good defender he is not terrible either but combining him with someone like Tony Allen would be awesome. Allen's perimeter defense would allow the Blazers to assign Evans an easier assignment every night and allow him to focus on scoring. Since Evans is more of a drive and kick guard he would need a couple shooters to pair with him. Matt Barnes would be a perfect fit he could play small forward or even stretch forward he is a good tough defender and a solid rebounder but he also can shoot the ball effectively stretching the floor. Martell Webster would be a great addition to this unit either him or Barnes could handle the PF spot and his 3 point shooting would effectively open the court for Allen and Evans to attack the rim. Run a combo of Meyers Leonard and Brandan Wright at the 5 and since both of them can hit from mid range they can effectively run pick and role.

Since Evans, Allen and Barnes are all good rebounders for their positions when combined with someone like Leonard this team would more than hold its own rebounding despite a small ball lineup.  Wright on the other hand offers better post defense and shot blocking than Leonard. Since Webster or Barnes might not be acquirable it is good that Portland has Victor Claver who could be interchanged with either. Although Claver would need to improve his 3 point shooting to properly space the floor with this unit.

Why is this important well the odds of Portland finding that dominant defensive, shot blocking and rebounding center they need is slim. Therefore, it is important that Portland build a deep and versatile bench. That starts with Evans scoring ability and position flexibility. Veteran leadership and toughness comes with Tony Allen as well as the leagues best perimeter defender. Barnes adds a similar veteran presence, toughness, and a perimeter jumper. Webster is similar to Evans in that he can play 3 positions SG, SF, PF; however, his biggest value is likely to be as a stretch 4 and bench scorer. Wright is not capable of being a starting center and playing 35 minutes a night but he can provide 15-20 minutes of efficient basketball, shot blocking and some scoring.

Weaknesses: A lot of this success depends on Leonard and Claver continuing to develop. If Meyers can play an aggressive 25 minutes a night at Center and Claver can improve his perimeter jumper this team will be just fine. There is plenty of scoring available on this bench unit; furthermore, if Matthews or Batum get hurt we are at least 3 deep at those positions. Point Guard, I fully believe that Evans is capable of running the show on the second unit; however, it would probably be wise for the team add an additional PG. I do not believe Eric Maynor will be affordable for this team but if he is then he or someone like CJ Watson would be a good option.

How it happens: First trade Joel Freeland for any second round pick or euro stash player. Freeland makes around 3 million a year and while that is not a lot of money trading him for a pick allows us or a euro stash player also gives us a 3 million trade exception or essentially 6 million in cap room.

Second Tyreke Evans must be signed to an offer sheet, it will likely take around 10 million per for him not to be matched but if we work out a sign and trade, we might be able to negotiate that number down to about 8.

Third sign Tony Allen I fully expect Allen to have a ton of suitors so it will be important that we have enough money left to sign him for just over the MLE some where around 5.5 million. With the Freeland trade and a cap at 60 million Portland will have around 20 million in cap space, note roster spots, the draft pick if we keep it and other factors play into that number as well.

Fourth sign Martell Webster with our remaining cap space (Portland might have to do a sign and trade with Washington to make the cap work but 3-4 million should sign him).

Fifth Sign Matt Barnes we can use our trade exemption from the Freeland deal or our room exception to sign him.

Sixth Sign Brandan Wright using whatever exception was not used on Barnes. Those signings give us a 12 man roster.

Lastly sign CJ Watson, Delonte West or another PG to the veteran exception. The last two spots can be filled by minimum salary veterans or roster invitees.

For 68 million he is what your 2013/2014 Trail Blazers could look like

    PG Damian Lillard

    PG Tyreke Evans

PG ? Jannero Pargo, CJ Watson, and for all you fanboys and girls Coby Karl

    SG Wesley Matthews

    SG Tony Allen

    SG Will Barton

    SF Nicolas Batum

    SF Matt Barnes

    SF Martell Webster

    PF LaMarcus Aldridge

    PF Victor Claver

PF ? Louis Amundson, Tony Mitchell

    C Meyers Leonard

    C Brandan Wright

C ? Chris Anderson, Jason Collins, Gorgui Dieng

You might be asking what happened to our draft picks this year. Well if I am Portland I am moving down in the draft to take Giannis Adetokunbo he should be available around the late middle to bottom of the first round. We also could use the #12 pick to draft for the Kings and use that pick as part of a package to sign Tyreke Evans. Portland would also be well off if they could turn pick #12, #39, and #46 into. Adetokunbo, Tony Mitchell and Gorgui Dieng. Adetokunbo would stay in Europe for a couple more seasons while Mitchell and Dieng would fill those ? spots on the roster at PF and C.

Personally I think this approach is better than waiting around for a team to decide if they got a shot at Dwight Howard or not.

i like it cmeese. we can win 50+ game with a team like this. i rather have cj watson as a back up pg because he can shoot and get a steal every game. i like barnes and martell to our team. i do like adding allen because he can guard kobe and harden and durant. hmm, for a back up pf let get amundson since he have experience and get dieng because he look like serge ibaka. so i give you credit for this idea. we would be  the lob city

ummmmmm nooo that won't happen he isn't a superstar yet lol he's been inconsistant @ this point in the season plus when he was on the up and up in the early part of the season where he was exploding he didn't average no 25 and 10 would be great to think he could do that eventually but I don't think a 20+ pts and 10+ assists as a season average will be attainable in fact not a whole lot of star players have ever averaged that in a season

You cant play all 15 of those guys but by adding some of those it would certainly be tough to decide who goes on the 12 man roster and that would be much better than having no bench at all like this year.

Okay, been a while since I've been on (computer problems), but uhhhhhh so I can see some ideas are a little odd, so I don't see benefits of getting an aging center unless its is some one like Dalambert who will not demand a lot of money, but even still I do not see these kind of players sending us even into the playoffs or being able to do anything special while in them. Tyreke would be good but I am sure he will demand a somewhat hefty salary. I do not see why we would need a different pg backing up Dame, Eric Maynor is playing well and works well with the team he is a quality backup pg. We need offense coming out of our center because with Jj gone that leaves an even bigger void of more well balanced scoring, or we get a defensive center and have 3 bench players who can score 10-20 on a given night, somewhat like the nuggets or spurs formula (well balanced scoring with Timmy, Tony, and Manu (also bench but still) when healthy leading the charge). Damian, Lamarcus, and third contributor leading the offense, with Wes and Nic being like Danny Green and Leonard respectively. So I propose trading our pick along with pieces for Larry Sanders. He should be a nice fit and should compliment Lamarcus well. Also sign Jermaine O'neil and Blair, both for veterans minimums, even Greg Smith of the Rockets would fit well, if anyone has seen Rockets games he can play and has promise. So if I did my math correctly we have somewhere around 7 mil left. Somebody I would also love to trade for is Tobias Harris, but I'm betting on the Magic to have grips tight with him. So with that 7 mil I like Korver or Ariza.

Option two is keep the pick and hope for gold as some said, but I think we go BIG with that pick and I mean center, the whole argument is the void Jj leaves needs to be filled first and foremost, and with our center woes and lack of quality young centers fitting with our nucleus age wised we need to take a risk in the draft. I say go GOBERT or go home (7'9" wingspan is salivating). Then we have that 11 mil on one or two players. Sign Jermaine for some veteran play at center so we do not get totally torn up and use that remaing 10 mil on a sixth man who can catch fire. Oj Mayo or JR Smith, we start Oj and move Wes down , JR would come off the bench.... Or Josh Smith, I doubt he will recieve a max contract, and there are other people more desirable so we come in for the kill sign for whatever we have left. or like some said we go Tyreke, in this scenario we have enough for him.

Option 3 sign the big boy BYNUM, but we probably do not have enough.

... Ahhhh good to be back!!!

I kind of like the suggestion to pick Ariza up. He's been a factor on defense in the playoffs before as a Laker. He also has decent length at the 3 and could guard guys like Harden and Durant. Still questions about his shooting. As much as we have to improve defensively, we need scoring from our bench.

I think we need some fresh legs though and CJ McCollum will provide that. His 3 years in college is an advantage because he will immediately bring some maturity and an NBA ready body which Elliot Williams didn't (as seen by his injury trouble).

    I am a fan of shouting Batuuuuuum-Shaka-Laka whenever Nic hits a 3!!!!!

Yeah and now Blazers have zero interest in Bynum. I really thought he was worth the small risk. If anything he would be at the end of our bench and we use him as a sub. Hopefully we do make some type of trade for a quality back up center. Right no...
