Trail Blazers (33-45) Vs. Thunder (58-21)

    What To Watch For

    Emotional Letdown
With no postseason on the horizon for the young Trail Blazers, Wednesday's game against the Lakers was their SuperBowl. Damian Lillard even said so himself in the post-game interviews. As we all know, the shorthanded Trail Blazers fought to the finish but ultimately fell to the Lakers 113-106, despite a career night from the do-it-all rookie. So the question is, how will the Blazers respond after an emotional letdown? And this question would still be posed if they had beaten their rivals from the south, because emotions can swing both high and low. There definitely was an extra pep in their step against Los Angeles; a sense of urgency we had only seen in stretches over the past 10 games. But on this night, it was there for the full 48 minutes. It might be too much to ask for that type of output Friday night against the West's best, especially if JJ Hickson (back), Nicolas Batum (arm), and Wesley Matthews (ankle) are still in suits on the sideline. Those eight Trail Blazers who played Wednesday gave it their all and let everything they had on the Rose Garden hardwood, so it will be interesting to see the opening minutes against Oklahoma City. Over the course of this nine-game losing streak, Portland has routinely gotten out to sluggish starts only to find the climb uphill too treacherous to comeback from. To me, the biggest key to the game is the first quarter. The Thunder are a veteran team (how weird is that to say?) who have played in the Finals and know what it takes to win on a night in, night out basis, so they won't take our boys lightly. For Portland to hang around long enough to pull off the upset, they must keep this game within 4-5 points over the span of the first 12 minutes.

    Rookies On The Rise
Portland started four of their five rookies against the Lakers and saw promising results. Damian Lillard went toe-to-toe with future Hall of Famer Kobe Bryant, posting a career-high 38 points, 9 assists, and 3 steals. Victor Claver added in 9 points of his own to go along with 4 assists, and 2 rebounds. Claver only shot 3-11 from the floor, so watch his shooting as the season comes to a close. He's got great form and arc on his shot, but it just isn't falling at a consistent clip right now. After a stat-stuffing line against the Mavericks, Will Barton had 9 points and the usual 2 steals, but like Victor, he couldn't find the range on his shot, shooting just 4-12. As expected, Meyers Leonard had his hands full with Dwight Howard and could only muster up 5 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists as he dealt with foul trouble much of the game. Meyers didn't look for his shot, especially from mid-range, which I thought could have been used to lure Howard out of the key. Look for Meyers to be more aggressive against Kendrick Perkins and take him on the perimeter and knock down a few more jumpers Friday. Overall, you have to be pleased with how our crop of rooks has grown this season and are performing currently. Let's hope these final four games show even more progress heading into their Sophomore campaigns.

If LA is the number 8 seed does OKC try and force the Spurs to play them? If so we might get a gift win here although I doubt it

We got All-Stars too. We can win this game. It will take great effort, as it is supposed to in the NBA. But I'm confident we can put some big numbers up and beat the artist formerly known as Seattle.

That was an ugly game so sloppy but Barton's many dunks were enjoyable

When I looked at our schedule a few weeks ago, I thought we could legitimately lose every game the rest of the way. Just a crazy stretch of great teams. At this point, we're only 1 game from being tied by Philly, and 2 games from potentially a top 10 pick. I feel like this is the worst season we'll have for a while, so may as well give up our 1st in a year when we're better. Hit with this pick and keep it going.

33-36, playoff hopes alive and kicking. 33 and 47, power ranking has us as 5th worst team in the league.

I am a fan of Raymond Felton. Haha, seriously though I'm a fan of Batum's Lobs and JJ's Slams.

I thought we played a great 1st half but Damian had 2 pts after 3 qtrs and the Thunder had a field day in the 2nd half. It was basically our bench playing the Western Conference champs, can't be to shocked by the loss. 7 pt 3rd qtrs aren't going to win a lot of games. As for Claver, he's a defender first and Babbit is not. Joel Freeland had 5-5 in the first half in a few minutes. He actually outplayed JJ. At this point in the season it's not about beating top teams as much as evaluating the roster. Our end schedule has been brutal.

The Blazers were winning!  That is the key word, were.  Blazers are living proof that you can live and die by the jumper.  Lately it has been dying.

Hawes will be a hot commodity by the trade deadline, I would think the sixers could find a better offer.

However, I do believe Mo Williams could have somewhat of  a high trade value. Olshey needs to make a deal to get a big man while we...

Yeah and now Blazers have zero interest in Bynum. I really thought he was worth the small risk. If anything he would be at the end of our bench and we use him as a sub. Hopefully we do make some type of trade for a quality back up center. Right no...
