Trail Blazers (33-42) Vs. Rockets (42-33)

    *UPDATE*
LaMarcus told members of the media that he expects to plan tomorrow night against the Rockets.

    What To Watch For

Filling The Void Of Aldridge And Batum
At this point, it is unclear whether or not LaMarcus Aldridge and Nicolas Batum will play Friday night against the Houston Rockets. But if they can't go, it'll be an even bigger blow than usual. Portland is 2-1 this season against Houston, large in part to the contributions of Aldridge and Batum. In the three games against the Rockets, Aldridge averaged 29 points and 9.3 rebounds while Batum put up 25.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 2.3 steals, and 3.3 blocks. It's safe to say that those two had Houston's number this season. But where will the production come from? My guess is that it won't be just two players filling LA and Nic's shoes, rather a team effort where every one who plays, chips in a little here and a little there. We know Luke Babbitt has the potential to get hot from downtown and connect on multiple 3's. Joel Freeland added 7 off the bench against Memphis, even showing off a nice spin and slam in the first-half. And then there's Eric Maynor who looks more to pass first, but has the ability to put the ball in the bucket. As long as the Trail Blazers get something from everyone, they'll be right in this one until the end.

    How Portland Defends James Harden
James Harden is one of the most dynamic players in the entire NBA and he's rapidly reaching superstar status, if he's not already there. In Houston's 118-103 victor over the Trail Blazers back in February, it was Harden who set the tone early and often, always having an answer to keep Portland at bay. Once the final buzzer sounded, James had racked up 35 points, on an efficient 13-16 shooting, 11 assists, and 7 rebounds. Does Portland double him? Trap him? Or will they let Wesley play him straight up. The dangers in doubling Harden is that he's surrounded by shooters. Francisco Garcia (41.7%), Chandler Parsons (38.3%), and Jeremy Lin (34.1%) all have the capabilities of getting hot, especially if left wide open. And then there's Omer Asik. If the Trail Blazers wanted to use a post to come out and help on Harden, there's a good chance Harden, a great passer, would find Asik or any other open man for the easy bucket. It's almost like picking your poison. There's no right answer. Portland just has to hope they can get Harden into early foul trouble and deny him the basketball as much as possible.

OK, we need to start resting Wes, JJ & Lillard.  Let the rookies develop.  Play them off the bench and do not risk the injuries with these high minutes.  Come on Stotts, use some common sense.

He's actually giving JJ more minutes, which is a good thing. He was getting around 25 or so before, and he has playing 30+ recently. Rest Wes and Lillard. Move Maynor into the starting 5, and let Freeland start, JJ as sixth man.

Hopefully the Coach will limit his minutes to about 20.

We need to lose out and hope for a few 76er wins cause the #11 pick has more trade value than #12 and it also has better odds of seeing one of the drafts keepers fall to us.

Rockets a re a nimble group that like to get up and down the floor. I think their style is a better fit for the Blazers. We can spread it out and play a faster game. Watch those long rebounds, there will be a whole lotta 3's fired.

Yeah, Omer Asik will pretty much grab anything right under the rim, and the Blazers aren't really the long rebound grabbing team. We beat them twice, maybe once more.

Rest JJ... for a sign and trade.

Sit LA... because he IS the best player on the team.

Let Maynor play, so the FO  (front office) knows what he's worth and what to offer this summer.

Play Freeland, because we won't see him in a Blazer uniform again if the FO has anything to say about it.

Sit Batum and play Claver.  Portland will keep Claver, Batum is not 100%, and the hope for playoff frensy is 2014.

Sit Matthews... even Ironman needs a break.

Play Leonard... learn by doing.  The kid still struggles to be in the right place at the right time, but by God, he's growing up right before our eyes.

Hickson... sit.  He gone unless he wants to play for less than 5 mil for Portland.

Welcome back Fanatic!  I couldn't agree more with your post and believe your Hickson take was worth mentioning twice, as an injured player can not be traded.  Would add that it is PAST time to reduce Dame's minutes, especially with Barton needing time and the addition of Maynor.

Bdawg injured players get traded all the time just look at Barbosa this year. Of course since JJ is a free agent and not an expiring contract keeping him healthy does increase his trade value if there is a sign and trade to be found.

I think Batum is done for the season but LaMarcus loves to play the texas teams. I agree it's time to play Claver, Freeland, Maynor, Barton and Leonard big minutes. Sasha isn't playing for some unknown reason as well.

Claver is getting real good at the pass fake layup thing. Not great numbers but decent. LA was insane. Lillard hasn't been playing as well past 3 or so games but put that down to fatigue. Give Barton some more time. Meyers should start. Nolan Smith is a waste of time.

    Reckless and unconscionable.

@Blaser...Wes chucking 11, hitting but 1 certainly had an adverse effect on the team % from behind the arc last night

Wes was chasing Harden all night, with that defensive assignment I didn't expect much offense from him.

Yeah Wes taking 19 shots and and missing 10 3s was painful to see. Would rather have seen ofther shoot some of his shots but he did get robbed with some open looks.

Everyone says our starting line up is sooo awesome and if we add some decent bench players we'd be a playoff team.....I know Batum was hurt but if he was playing I dont  think we would have won.....we need some more help that people think
