    Please when posting be realistic.

Here is the best move Portland could make this summer: Trade for Marcin Gortat, the Suns are in desperation mode and will likely look to make an impact move this summer. That means they will likely be overpaying for Andrew Bynum. To do so the Suns will need to clear Gortat's salary off their cap. By renouncing JJ Hickson and trading Jeffries and Pavlovic to the Suns for Gortat the Blazers could absorb his salary. Since neither Pavlovic or Jeffries has guaranteed money for next season the Suns could easily release them to make the extra room for Bynum. Add in a couple 2nd round picks and there is a deal to made.

Gortat would give us a true center and he is athletic enough to become a plus defender. He needs to improve his aggression and footwork to take that next step but since Leonard also needs help with defensive fundamentals bringing in a defensive coach this summer to work with them would be a major step in the right direction. At 7.5 million Gortat is affordable and could easily replicate JJ's numbers with better defense. This would shore up the one glaring need in the starting rotation and allow the team to focus on building the bench.

It looks like the Blazers will be keeping their pick this year. By signing Gortat and combining him with Leonard Center would be the only position Portland would be set at. Portland will likely draft 12th but if they continue to falter and 76ers pick up a few wins then we could move up to 11th. While I would avoid the likes of Olynuk, Carter-Williams and others there is some talent to be found here. Portland should not be afraid to move up or down in the draft. Oladipo, Muhammad, Porter, Burke, and Smart would all be great gets for the Blazers although it is not likely any will last that long. Moving down would make a lot of sense allowing Portland to trade pick #11 or #12 and a second round pick to Atlanta for #18 and #20 would be great.

With those picks Portland could likely take Giannis Adetokoubo and Rudy Gobert or they could then trade the #20 pick to OKC for #28 and #31 to sign someone like Jeff Whitney, Tony Mitchell or Jamaal Franklin.

Being able to stash Adetokoubo and then signing Mitchell and Franklin for cheap would allow Portland the freedom to spend the rest of their cap space on a true 6th man.

ok i really like this move on getting gortat but why is it that everybody wants more rookies ? we have barton, clavor, lillard, lenoard and freeland why add one next year i think we should trade our 12th pick too a team who wants acouple too get a vet.

Dealing the #12 pick could be an option if it meant acquiring a 6th man type player but considering the team would have a need for a PF, SF although Claver is not terrible, SG Barton is not near ready and Williams is an injury risk, and PG if Maynor is not brought back. The draft could be a nice place to fill out the roster and second round picks are very cheap at less than a million per season.

I like Gortat as the center for the Blazers. I like it even more acquiring him in the fashion you posit. I also would use what's left of the cap space to try and get a defensive specialist like Tony Allen of Memphis. I then would still look to bring back JJ if the price is right.  I like a bench of Maynor, Allen, Claver, Hickson & Leonard. Then try and bring back Williams. He deserve a further look.

By making that move and assuming the cap does not increase Portland would have around 7 million in cap space.

With Claver and Batum we would be mostly set at SF and we would be set at C. Maynor could be brought back or another PG for around 3 million. Williams can be retained for probably somewhere around the minimum. That would leave us with 4 plus a 2.5 million room exception to sign a SG and PF.

Ideally we could also trade Freeland opening up another 3 million in cap space.

There will be a lot of options this summer. Gortat is one, so may be Vucevic from Orlando or Asik in Houston if Houston makes a run at Bynum. Splitter may be another. Dalembert too. Of those guys I like Asik most if he's available. Thibs coached centers know defense, same with Splitter, Pop coaches defense.

If Pho does not go after Bynum you make a different move but I still believe they will be looking to move Gortat to open enough room to make a max offer to someone.

Vucevic will not be available he is cheap young and good Orlando would be stupid to trade him.

Asik is also not going anywhere he has been everything the Rockets hoped for when they signed him. They have a playoff seed locked up and the team will have 16 million in cap room without moving someone like Asik.

Splitter might be available but I seriously doubt he leaves San Antonio.

That leaves Dalembert or Pachulia as the best options if Gortat cannot be acquired.

Philly, Charlotte, Houston, Orlando and Phoenix have been mentioned in the Bynum hunt. I see no reason any of these teams wouldn't let their centers go for a run at Bynum. Personally I think they'd all be stupid to take the risk except Charlotte.

Gortat has not been happy in Phoenix this year and I think the team is looking for a reason to move on. Bynum represents that reason especially since they have by far the best training staff in the NBA could be a great fit.

Sign with Ömer ( would be awesome ) or if that's not gonna happen sign with Hickson, draft a PF and sign with scorer SG for bench. Lineup is perfect already and Claver-Maynor-Meyers are the good pieces. Barton may send to D-League.

Talkin' Ball was talkin' about OJ Mayo last night. That raised my eyebrow a bit. Mayo has some serious game. You pair him with Lillard in the backcourt? We'd instantly be looking at a run at the playoffs next season.

i like oj mayo. we can either sign him to a 5 year and 8.5 million dollars per year.  or sign jj redick for a cheaper, 4 year and 6.5 million dollars per year. i like mayo better because he would be a perfect 6th man to our team. trade hickson, future 2 2nd round pick, and freeland for gortat and 2nd round pick. draft mccollum and russ smith and kenny kadji then this team is good. 3-6 seed in west. sign o'neal to 3 year and 3.5 million per year.

    lillard/mccollum/smith

    wesley/mayo/barton

    batum/claver

    aldridge/o'neal/kadji

    gortat/leonard/kadji

i love this team. we would be fun to watch

    LOL

Well Olshey sounds like a very persuasive man.. I think there is a small chance that he can sell to Howard that he will like it here much more than Kobe and the Lakers, and that he will be turn the Blazers into a Elite team and they will have MUCH more wins that he had this season with the Lakers..

    LOL

I say there is a 10% chance that Olshey can get Howard to sign here

The very first line in the thread was please be realistic. Howard even if he was to consider Portland his contract next year will start at 20+ million and Mayo is likely to get around 8-10 million. The ideas are interesting but it is not possible.

I also like the idea of getting Gortat. Trading the expiring contracts of Jeffries, Pavlovic and adding a sweetener with one of our second round picks this year could bring him. I think the Suns would do this for flexibility purposes. If not trade for Gortat, i think Pekovic or Al Jefferson would be a great pair with Aldridge, although getting either would eat up a lot of the cap like Hibberts, with Jefferson probably making around how much cap room we have currently. Next I think drafting CJ McCollum to back up Wesley would be great. Watching videos and seeing him play on tv, it shows that his productivity comes from off-ball play and not running the show. Free agency wise besides Pek or Jefferson, I think that resigning Eric Maynor with his cap hold would be a bad idea, but I would like him back thru unrestriced free agency. After Maynor I like Ekpe Udoh. He has a team option, but with Larry Sanders, Ersan Ilyasova, Drew Gooden and John Henson undercontract, i think they let him walk at around 4 million. Then I say bring over Kostas Papanikolaou to fill in.

    PG- Lillard, Maynor

    SG- Matthews, McCollum, Barton

    SF- Batum, Claver, Papanikolaou

    PF- Aldridge, Udoh, Freeland

    C- Gortat/Pekovic/Jefferson, Leonard

I quite like CJ McCollum and I think he would help a lot with his scoring especially when our first options like Lillard and LA get their rest. If McCollum can continue to keep the defense spread with his great 3pt shooting it will open the game up for our bigs inside. Draft CJ and then we should let hicks on walk. A sign and trade would be great if it meant getting Gortat or another good defensive center. My first choice is Samuel Dalembert because he comes with experience and he's a good defender in the post so he could mentor Leonard for the next 2 years atleast.

We need to get a good slasher, because we already have plenty of jump shooters. LA and Batum need to attack the rim and with their improved passing it will open up things for our shooters.

Waive Jeffries and trade both Freeland and Claver to Atlanta for the 20th pick. Throw in a 2nd rounder too and go after Mason Plumlee who can play the PF when LA goes to the bench. He's a good rebounder which we desperately need and he's good at the free throw line which will help late in games. We need front court help especially because our bench currently has Jeffires, Leonard and Freeland as our only real front court guys.

When we got home court in the first round in 2010 we were a great offensive rebounding team and with all our shooters now we need offensive rebounding. LA does his part, but when he steps out to shoot his jumper, he can't realistically grab the offensive boards.

CJ Mccollum plays like Andre Miller without his passing ability. He is not very quick but he changes directions well and he has a nice jumper. He has always been able to score mostly because he got to the rim. He won't be able to get to the rim as easy at the next level but if his jumper remains consistent at a high level like he shot this year then he will be a worthwhile pick if he FG% fails back down to the 40-42% then his value won't be as high.

McCollum has a good game and he is a good scorer at the college level. In this shallow draft class he could be a real nice pick up. Not Rookie of the year, but his scoring off the bench is something we need. He may be a little undersized for the 2 but I think his energy and savvy will make up for that. If his defense improves, I think he'll be a great pick up and possibly just what we need.

McCollum is too small to be an effective SG at the next level he is also not a PG. He should score at the next level, but he is not an elite athlete but he plays in control and should be able to get his shot off at the next level. McCollum shot the ball well this year but his percentages were much higher this year than previously if those numbers carry over then he should be worth a lottery pick as a bench scorer if his jumper is not as effective then his value drops dramatically.

There are a few smaller SG in the league who have been quite successful. Monta Ellis, Eric Gordon and maybe even Dwayne Wade(at 6'4 he isn't exactly that big). McCollum may not have their quickness, but his jump shot makes up for that. I think he should certainly be a better defender than Ellis and Gordon at the position and could always slide over to guard the opposing PG when Lillard hits the bench. Again, I just feel his scoring ability would be great for us. He can keep the floor stretched because he hits his jumper so well. And while the College 3pt is a long 2pt in the NBA, he could open up the floor for our bigs inside.

But along with that, we need rebounding!!!! Reggie evans has shown this year that every team needs rebounding and with that comes easy put backs, trips to the free throw line and getting the other team into foul trouble.

If we don't draft McCollum then we should get someone who attacks the rim off the dribble and gets us easy buckets.
