I dont know if its a good thing or a bad thing, but I feel like the blazers have lost more close games this year then any other team out there. I mean I dont know the stats and of course im partial to my team, but it seems like whenever I come home from work, check the box score I see my team lost by 1 or 2,or they lost in overtime,or they lost on a last second shot like to the wizards. I mean both their loses to the wizards where by 2. I mean if our team coulda won some of those close games we'd be in the playoffs. Is that good or bad, I mean it seems good cause I shows we are in all these games and could be a playoff team if the ball bounces alittle differently. But at the same time maybe it shows a lack of being able to close games.I dont know, all I know is its crazy frustrating, crazy frustrating.I'd love to be in the playoffs, but we wont be cause we keep losing by 1 damn point

I think it's a good thing it shows were fighting and not giving up even though we've got alot of inexperienced players

It's a good thing CC.  The losses can be attributed directly to lack of depth, and as Blaser mentions, inexperience.  Neither factor will be as influential next season as we move forward and continue to build.  Lack of depth, I believe, is also behind this team "picking it's spots"...beating quality teams and dropping games to inferior opponents.  These guys are gassed.  Develop your youth Stotts.

I don't think depth is a first half issue so much. It doesn't help if you keep passing the ball to the other team and our starters did plenty of that with the loopy WNBA passes. Also doesn't help if you let the other team get 3-4 offensive rebounds on a possession. Against the Bucks I'd have just cleared the bench and rested the starters more in the 2nd half...yeah, they made a more respectable game in the end but this was by no means a close game.

at this point in the season though it shouldn't be about winning games but more about focusing on developing our future assets give our rookies more run time out there to develop cause the playoff picture is closing quick right about now

WNBA passes?. Anyway, I agree Blaser with everything you said,I just wish we coulda got some of those close victories cause we'd have such a better record then we do and maybe be like a 8th seed or something,I definatley think we have more talent then Houston or Utah

we deff have a more talented starting line up then them but we lack in alot of areas when it comes down to our bench and i think at this point stotts should really stop overplaying our starting line up and worrying about his coaching record and start reverting back to our original plan that we had set for this season it seems like a trending thing to play 2-3 players off the bench as of late

I think Freeland has a great upside. I've seen him get 6 pts and 3 rebounds in 3 minutes of play. He's injured his finger pretty badly but he hustles and I'd like to see him get a lot of time if we are out of the playoff hunt. As a third option, he could become a Collison type player. I actually think Victor Claver and Joel Freeland are smarter players than Will Barton. Barton has mad talent but not a really high hoops IQ. If the right players are available in the off season, then we could compare their value. At this point I'd keep Claver, Freeland, Maynor, Leonard and Barton as rotation players although I think Barton could use more time in the D league to learn the playsets. He's lost a lot but makes his value through his hunger for the hoop.

his defense looked great in the olympics he's just getting garbage minutes to no minutes a game and yea barton needs some time down in the d leagues I think fans got a little too excited over the off season after an exhibition game where he dropped what 70 or so points but there was also no defense played in it too lol

So the blazers got beat bad last nite, and everyone in the starting lineup had a +/- of negative, including aldridge with a +/- of -32. Hickson was the only starter with a posistive +/- with +2 . Which means that add up his minutes on the court blazers outscored OKC by 2

it may look simple to look at those stats... Some players looked tired last night and both Aldridge and Mathews didnt shoot well enough to keep it a close game... and we also did a lot of turnovers...

but neither JJ or Aldridge were able to defend Ibaka... i would have tried Freeland. That´s the kind of situation were we needed a defensive minded BIG...

ps: i hope claver come back soon, we need him off the bench...

Here is why you lose close games one JJ is a terrible help defender and LA is not much better. Which is why we give up the most points in the paint in the league.

The team has very poor rebounding fundamentals as they routinely fail to box out an allow numerous second chance baskets.

We do not get to the foul line. We are 24th in FTA that won't get it done.

We not a great 3 pt shooting team, we attempt the 4th most in the league and yet we are in a 4 way tie for 16-20th in 3pt %. Settling for a 35% shot versus a near 50% by going inside will lead to a lot of losses.

You dont think it has to do with us having no bench and our starters getting worn down as the season goes on?

^ that mixed with no defense all them close games we had early in the season weren't because of fatigue they were because we barley make stops in late game situations and most times have to rely on giving up a 2 and hoping to god we can knock the three down and outscoring em that way when it counts

Okay, I''ll admit it, I like Asik better. I definitely think they will both have very good careers. And finally, someone who agrees, that Ibaka is a  shot blocker, not really a great defender.

Henson will be solid down the road but his ceiling is more like Taj Gibson. He is a great role player but not elite like Sanders and Ibaka could be if people were not so willing to shoot on him.
