This has come up repeatedly in my mind. One part of me wants to see the team keep winning in the regular season, even though it seems very unlikely that the playoffs are in the picture, but the other part wants to keep our draft pick, so I want to get securely in the top 12. Also, say we have a top 12 and keep our pick, who do we draft? Do we draft by position or the best available? To me I see a mixture of both. I say either picking the best available Center or Shooting Guard would be ideal. I like Kelly Olynyk, Rudy Gobert, and Victor Oladipo as of right now. Im just not sure if it is worth it to keep winning and lose a valuable draft pick...

might as well as let bobcats take our 1st round pick this year since it's not supposed to be a very great draft class

Agree and disagree.  At this point, this year's draft class has been labeled as 'weak'...in fact so much so by some (Brent Barry for one) as the weakest in league history.  "At this point" being the operative verbage.  As the season closes and fans of this game have their nap, they awaken to the draft and the frenzy that invariably surrounds it...irregardless of what pundants have previously termed it.  A lottery pick will have VALUE as an ASSET, rest assured.  At worst, a lotto pick coupled with a formidable PF in a S&T, net a substantial return.

Has Olshey seen enough of the bench to accurately assess what he has?  I say no.  Go 10+ deep Terry.

The way i see it, we have enough young players, now we need to develop them. The only way to add more, is if we get a very high pick, i would say top8... and that isnt likely to happen...

So i would vote on keep winning, last games we are starting to have bench help, Maynor, Claver and Leonard are finally giving the starters some time to rest. So i would say keep giving playing time to them and to Barton and Freeland so that they become more and more useful...

We are not out of the playoff hunt. I think it's wrong to assume the Rockets, Lakers, Jazz are going to win out..couple of losing streaks by any of those teams and a couple of Blazer winning streaks and we make them. With 5 rookies and now the addition of Eric Maynor, we are capable of pushing into the first round and with Damian's first season of record breaking achievements, getting to the playoffs is important to him. We have enough rookies already. We need a couple more vets and watch out!

CT thats why we have matthews, but we never need him to do that since we have Batum who can do that well, and LA can create almost anything in the post if he gets it.

Lillard can create on or off the dribble, and I think Matthews insanely quick release on his jumpshot/3shot is a huge asset. Its not about building to a template of a past team. Its about using what you have to build what you want, and I think Olshey is doing that well so far.

Batum can create his shot that well either tho

I think bringing in another ball handler scorer would be a good idea

While this team does have a lot of youth, they do lack depth. One way to add depth is through the draft, so even though it is perceived as a weak draft (which I don't buy), you always welcome lottery picks with open arms.

honestly, that is somewhat right.. but if we still get a decent draft pick, we cam still be somewhat better and still have a chance for ANOTHER draft pick next year.. which means playrs that will fill our bench up and give minutes of out future players

Olshey, Ainge and the other GMs at the Maui showcase for players entering the draft said there's not a first round talent there. That was enough for me. We have 5 rookies this season and I hope we make the playoffs and get some young, talented vets to boost the bench next season. Losing to win is an oxymoron to me when it comes to the draft.

First off, I think there's a lot of hyperbole in there. And secondly, that was back in November. It's now March and there's a lot of talent in this class. Not necessarily superstar talent, but All-Star quality guys. Guys like Marcus Smart, Victor Oladipo, Otto Porter, and Ben Mclemore have all came on strong since the beginning of the season. Everyone thought the 2010 class would be terrible as well, but it has produced Cousins, George, Sanders, and Wall just to name a few. There's ALWAYS talent in the draft. You just have to find it.

Man they say all draft classes are weak 2010, 2011 and 2013 last year was the exception cause it was deep.

2010 had Wall, Favors, Cousins, Monroe, George, Sanders, Bradley, Bledsoe, Fields went 39, Vasquez 28, Stephenson went 40. That is plenty of solid talent even deep into the draft hardly what I would call a weak class.

2011 had Irving, Kanter, Walker, Thompson, Burks, K Leonard, Vucevic, Shumpert, Faried at 22, Butler at 30, Singler 33, Parsons 38, Leuer 40, L Allen 50, E. Moore 56 and Thomas at 60 that is some serious depth especially late.

I agree with Dustin always value just got to find it, unfortunately we suck at finding it.

Exactly we never find talent by drafting players except for 2006 and 2012 draft

Every indication to this point, is that Olshey knows what he is doing and has both vision and direction.  That being the case, I believe it inaccurate to associate the performances of GMs past with that of the present.  To say that we suck infers a present-tense.  Presently, while having Olshey sporting the Blazer pinwheel on his chest, we've drafted Lillard, Leonard, and Will Barton...arguably the best draft in the league and recently added Maynor at the deadline...a move also arguably the best (or certainly among them) in the league.  Building what Olshey has repeatedly called "sustainable success" is a process.  As with any process, patience is required.  Looking forward to draft day and Olshey stepping to the plate batting 1.000.

I believe Olshey was the GM for that 2012 draft and will again be by Paul Allen's side for the upcoming 2013 draft.  So...what's the worry?  Anticipation and excitement Siccolo.  Anticipation and excitement.

sign Iggy for 8-9M, Batum at the two, and Wesley off the bench! Draft Steven Adams (who loves contact, grew up playing rug-bee). Sounds NICE!

Im not impressed with Gortat. Everyone wants him but he seems mediorcre to me. He is the most realistic option since all it would take is the 10th pick, but I think he is old and declining.
