Trail Blazers (25-23) At Mavericks (20-28)

    What To Watch For

    Backcourt Battle
Although the Trail Blazers had a comeback for the ages back on January 29th to stun the Mavericks at the buzzer, it was the post players for Portland which led the way. The Dallas duo of Darren Collison and OJ Mayo took control of the backcourt battle, combining to score 32 points, on 11-19 shooting, including 5-7 from 3 to go along with 18 assists, 11 rebounds, and 3 steals. While Damian Lillard and Wesley Matthews were able to chip in 27 total points of their own, their shooting wasn't as efficient only connecting on 8-26 shots from the field, including 5-15 from downtown. This matchup will be key to win if the Trail Blazers want to go 2-0 to start their six-game road trip. Dallas will be fired up for this one, especially the way the last one ended for them, so it'll be imperative for Wes to play tight defense on Mayo without getting into foul trouble and for Lillard to settle the offense down by either working the two-man game with Aldridge or finding ways to get himself open looks. The first 12 minutes of this one are vital.

    Dominance Down Low
LaMarcus Aldridge and JJ Hickson patrolled the paint beautifully last week against these Mavericks, combined to put up 55 points, on 21-33 FG shooting, to go along with 28 rebounds and 4 blocks. Dallas features a lot of players with length such as Shawn Marion, Brandan Wright, and Bernard James, but they don't have the bulk to go along with the length which typically gives the Trail Blazers problems. Watch this game closely from the start, if Portland can stake claim that the paint is their territory, it could be a good night. Free-Throw shooting is critical in this matchup. Back on January 29th, Portland attempted 23 shots from the charity stripe compared to Dallas' 15. Winning the rebound battle and living at the line are two major ingredients for road wins.

Would love nothing more than to get to 30 wins without a loss...wishful thinking? Maybe but it's not like I havent been surprised all season long! We can beat this team and I look to LaMarcus to have a big game.

Seems counterproductive to expend the energy as a unit necessary to earn a key stop, when there isn't a player on the floor acquainted with the term "boxing out"...a fundamental in the game of basketball.  Critical Mav possessions down the stretch were kept alive with an offensive board.  Difficult to watch.  Perhaps the tendency is to regress with regard to the mental aspects of the game as the digits on the paycheck for playing it increase?

Nice defense on Mayo and Carter tonight they shot the ball like it was warm ups tonight. While 6 turnovers is great only forcing 8 is terrible. Dallas is a very beatable team and we blew it. Of course the bench being back to normal did not help.

Very winnable game if Batum was healthy.  Some people are never happy.

I am not happy with any losses if the goal is to make the playoffs. I sure as hell am not happy about a loss to a sub .500 team. The fact that the starters scored 90 points and the team had 6 turnovers and we still lost is even more unacceptable. Allowing Mayo to go 11-14 was just icing on the cake of misery.

the issue isnt a bad day for a starter... the problem is that the bench really sucks!

all the bench scored 9p... the same as batum...

meaning our bench wont let us reach the playoffs, either we take that of our minds... and understand that this is our roster for the entire season (not even a change until now)... or if we really want to reach the playoff, we need for sure to get a couple good and cheap bench players, and it would compromise our long terms plans...

Olshey has pretty much declared that the Blazers will not make any deals this season. He underestimated the starters and because of it this team will compete finish close to .500 miss the playoffs and give Charlotte a nice first round pick this year.

You think Sacramento will trade 2014 1st rd pick for our 10th pick? That will for sure give us a nice lottery pick next year, then trade the lottery pick and a vet either Matthews or Batum for the number 1 pick in 2014, yup, you guess it, Andrew W...

I love the Grit and Grind, and I love the Spurs timeless play. I think if the Spurs get to the finals, they will beat the heat, but they won''t beat the Grizzlies easily, and the Grizz can''t beat the Heat. I know it''s weird.
