Trail Blazers (22-22) Vs Mavericks  (19-25)

    What To Watch For

    Wesley Matthews On BOTH Ends
The last time these two teams met, Dallas used a 31-12 4th Q to blow open what was a four-point game at the end of three. The culprit? OJ Mayo. Mayo was sizzling to start the season and had arguably one of his best shooting performances of the year that November night in Dallas where he scored a game-high 32 points on 12-18 shooting, including an insane 6-8 from 3-point land. This is where Wesley Matthews comes in. We need his bulldog-like mentality to lock up Mayo and force the Dallas offense to come elsewhere. And we also need Wesley's 3-point shooting to come back. Since hitting those two clutch 3's against Miami, he's shot a sub-par 15-56 from downtown -- just a 26.7% average. I don't have any statistical evidence to support this, but it just feels like whenever Wesley's rolling, the team follows suit.  My curiosity got the better of me and I looked it up. Whenever Wesley scores 20 or more, the Trail Blazers are 7-3.

    DEFENSE, DEFENSE, DEFENSE
The Trail Blazers won't be beating many team allowing 61.5% shooting for the field, which is exactly what Dallas shot back on November 5th. And it wasn't just the paint where Portland was allowing easy buckets, they gave up 50% shooting from 3 (10-20) to the Mavs as well. Dallas may only have 7 road wins this year, but they still have shooters. Along with shooters, the Mavericks also have a lot of size down low, especially with the return of Dirk Nowitzki. We all saw how the Clippers used their size advantage down low Sunday night in Staples to get great looks at the basket or keep possessions alive with offensive rebounds. Overall, this is a tough matchup for the Trail Blazers. They'll definitely need to be locked in from the field and feed off of the crowd's energy to get timely stops. This has all the makings of another nail-biter at the RG.

We can thank the Mavericks for helping train Coach Stotts. We got a good'n.

I am really not sure Stotts deserves the credit for this team. Lillard has made a huge impact,  Matthews has been pretty much the same player, Batum has made some nice changes but is that Batum or Stotts, LA is the same he might have even regressed a little and JJ is still the blue collar workhorse.

Not just any idiot can coach a team. Some credit has to go to Stotts no matter how much you think this was "In the stars"

I am a fan of standing by the team in my home town, Portland.

I am sure come credit has to go to him I am just not sure how much credit to give him. Sometimes the players just preform to despite the coach. Just look at Nate how much was he responsible for us being good. I am not sure, sometimes I just think it has more to do with the players.

I think if Batum guards Collison, we win.

Couldn't disagree more.  If you think Batum hasn't changed, then you have to credit Stotts.  Stotts gave Batum and Lillard opportunity if nothing else. That alone is reason enough to credit him.

Maybe your right and allowing the players freedom is on Stotts but still the players have to take advantage of that freedom. Batum has stepped up a lot even though he still has a little ways to go and perhaps that would have never happened in a more restrictive system like the one Nate ran

Still can't believe that Aldridge 3 went down...Big win for us if we are to keep up pace for the 8th seed...and this is example No. 1 why you don't trade JJ! He's an animal in the paint!

LaMarcus Aldridge! Amazing way to finish off a comeback win and credit to Wesley for the steals that made it all happen.

Well, the lottery is tomorrow, so fingers crossed. What my issue is, is that why would the Bucks trade away one of their best players, and potential DPOY for many years to come, for Nic Batum and a bunch of picks in a weak draft?
