Trail Blazers (21-21) Vs Clippers (32-12)

    What To Watch For

    Lillard Vs ???
The Oregonian's Mike Tokito reports that the Clippers' superstar, Chris Paul, is likely out for their next two games, including this one against the Trail Blazers. That would likely mean that Damian Lillard will face off against Eric Bledsoe the majority of the game, which will be no easy task. But, don't it get twisted, there's a big difference between having to run a team and defend a player of CP3's caliber then doing so against the young Bledsoe. The Clips are also 3-2 without their floor general on the season so hopefully the Trail Blazers don't overlook LAC if Paul isn't available for action. It's been well documented throughout the season that our Blazers like to play to the level of their competition. If it is indeed Bledsoe that Lillard will be up against, watch out for the quick fouls. Bledsoe is quick with the dribble and unafraid of taking it hard to the rack. Dame needs to play off him a bit and force him to hit outside shots before giving up the drive. On offense, Damian should look for his shot early, much as he did against Indiana, and get to the rack. Even against the tall timbers the Pacers provided, Lillard was still able to slice and dice his way to multiple And-1's. If he can do the same, chances look good for another victory.

    Blazer Bigs Production
In their 103-90 defeat to the Clippers back on November 8th, JJ Hickson and LaMarcus Aldridge were held in check as the Clippers allowed the starts posts to a combined 19 points and 9 rebounds. It doesn't help when DeAndre Jordan, by himself, out produces our starting frontcourt when he went off for 21 points and 8 rebounds. While the bench is going to be a big key to watch as L.A. is arguably the deepest team in the league and Portland never really knows what to expect from their second-unit, one way to ensure this game is close down the stretch is if Hickson and Aldridge can control the paint, especially on the defensive glass. They must hold the Clippers to one possession each trip down the court; they simply have to many weapons to be giving them multiple looks at the basket.

Paul was in a suit for the Phx game tonight.  This is a back to back with the Clippers.  Should be interesting.  I kind of like it.  We'll see.  Portland has a similar B2B with Utah later in the season.  I think all B2Bs should be played that way.

I found it unfortunate that as the 1st quarter wound down (LAC vs PHX) Barkley said that he's not high on the Clippers because without Chris Paul, they aren't good in the half court, and that they have no one they can give the ball to and create for themselves.  I'd argue Crawford can, but the unfortunate part is that Barkley said a few weeks ago (when Steve Kerr called Aldridge the best PF in the game right now) that Blake Griffen was THE BEST PF in the NBA NO QUESTION.  How can you call Griffen the best PF in the game, and yet also say that he cannot create for himself.  Just makes me laugh.  I don't think Barkely even listens to himself talk sometimes.

I have to agree with Barkley as much as Crawford can create for himself and that Chris Paul is their best player this team is gonna go as far as how Blake improves and there's no question that he improved some but, I haven't seen enough to make me think that they can get to the finals or win it all especially when Blake still isn't a good FT shooter.

If you think about it for a sec, to say that the Clippers only go as far as Griffin is to say he's their weakest link, not their strongest player, and NO WAY IN HELL is he the best PF, that's absurd. The best thing Griffin's done this year was those time travel commercials, especially the one where he sees younger him in an arcade, and says 'you should play that nba videogame' and when the kid responds 'but all you do in that game is dunk', Griffinstein goes "bingo" BECAUSE HE KNOWS THAT'S ALL HE'S GOOD FOR. Yeah, I know, it was obviously just a good script for a comedy bit, but that's why we like comedy; it's the best way to speak the truth!

Chuck was on a role talking about all-star snubs tonight. He doesn't think the Lakers should have such automatic all-star spots, but he still wants them all to be chosen from california teams. Funny too when he kept bringing up who should've made it they'd say "who are you gonna cut then" and he had no answers. Reminds me of trade-machine junkies.

TM Junkies...  harsh - and so hilarious.  It wasn't just Chuck though.  Kenny smith said NO QUESTION too, about Griffin being the best PF.  Like they were getting royalties to advertise for him.  It was sad.  LA needs to be a ball hog and beast every minute he gets out there for the All Star game.  But sweeter, would see him beast on Griffin for 2 games in a row.  Can't wait to see that go down.

What would of make it more sweeter is that if the games was on TNT.

Haha yeah didn't mean to be harsh, that wasn't directed at anyone particular, I'm just not a fan of TM or most other incomplete player assesment systems :P

Did Kenny really get on board? I must've missed that cuz I really thought I was hearing all Chuck. That's so disappointing... then again, if I had their job on a national level, I'd probably be hedging alot of my bets too, stickin with the safe/popular/big market options, ya know? That doesn't excuse all of it, but really, if you've gotta pick a big market player to mainstream, does it have to be a guy who has such an incomplete game? It's not like he's got the highest ceiling in the world either, especially when the time comes to the roster breakin down a little, a big trade happening, and suddenly Griffinstein doesn't have a top-3 pg shippin him free buckets.

That's actually kind of an interesting question; if you had to take a western big market team, and pick one guy this year who's the breakout star (like Griffin was when they started hyping him as a 2nd year rook), who do you go with? Can't do Portland, plus injuries and a lack of breakout rookies in the west (on big market teams) makes this kinda difficult... where does denver fall on the market scale? Not huge but Manimal is looking similair to Griffinstein with his athleticism, and I'd say he plays smarter/higher ceiling with the right team... Feel like I've gotta be forgetting someone...

Phoenix showed us how to expose the Clippers weaknesses. We just need to exploit them as they did. Everyone is beatable.

What's their weakness? They can't play too good without CP3? That's basically all the Hornets games since that trade.

@ Blazer  No, it's true.  TM Junkies are annoying.  There's nothing wrong with telling it like it is.  It's your opinion, and I happen to agree.

Kenny and Barkey were like twins, both outraged and shaking their heads at the Steve Kerr saying LA was the best PF this season.  They could not have been more emphatic short of standing up and declaring Grifin their Lord and Savior.  I believe Kenny was the first to chime in with his opinion, "NO WAY!"  And when asked who the best PF was, Kenny responded like, well duh, Blake Grifin.  No question.

yea he was a great player but he's kind of a dummy when it comes to anylyzing nba talent personally I agreed with kerr aldridge is the most well rounded pf in the league right now both love and griffin as great as there stats look lack in certain areas and have to rely on a good-great pg or ball handler to set them up to score while aldridge is able create his own shot personally I think the twolves are better off trading love for a number 1 option that can create his own shot instead of prancing love out there and making him pretend he's a go to player cause personally you want your number 1 option to have the ability to create for himself if he has too

Take away Blakes dunks, and he's grounded like an airplane at a snowed in airport. Dont get me wrong, i like the excitement he brings, and his dunks are the most montrous since the Chocolate Thunder and Shawn Kemp. As for their weakness, take away their fast break points and they can be handled. If it turns into a half court game, we match up pretty good. Our most glaring weakness is what its always been, BENCH PLAY.

Marcus Camby who played with Griffin and LaMarcus said LaMarcus was the best PF in the NBA...now he has an opportunity to go out and outplay him. I think LaMarcus is pumped up to show his allstar game now that he got the coaches vote

personally griffin is really just a much bigger and more modern day version of dominique wilkins just a human highlight reel when it comes to dunks but other then that he will never carry a team to a championship

Ugly 4th qtr but a 1 pt win after a turnover, 2 crunch time stops..I'll take it! Nico had a great game. Lamarcus didn't have it going tonight.

I'm sooooo glad I have season tickets and don't have to listen to these guys! When the  games are away I listen to Wheels and Antoine and avoid these guys (Barlkey mosly) so I don't end up throwing a brick through my big screen at home. But last nights game, with the acception of the run in the 4th by GS, the Blazers moved  and shot the ball well and seemed to be having fun on the court and on the bench during the game, which to me is a good sign of confidence in this young team.
