Whats Wrong with the Nba is that its becoming like Baseball, were teams that are in large markets prosper while small market teams can only stay competitive for soo long. Teams like the Lakers,Clippers,Heat,Knicks,Celtics can pretty much spend whatever they want, they are endlessly signing players, making moves and what not. While teams like Blazers,Grizzlies,Thunder have to make savvy moves in order to stay competitive. I mean look at what happened in OKC with James Harden. If it was the Lakers or Knicks,he'd still be there, but they had to trade him cause they cant afford him, durant and westbrook.Memphis has spent YEARS in the cellar and only now they are starting to be a competetive Franchise, but yet they are shopping Rudy Gay,and Zach Randolph, because of salary reasons.Look at Sacramento, they were a top franchise at the start of the 21st century but now they suck,Blazers have to contantly rebuild,we seem to start every decade off good, and end every decade strong but stink in the middle. It just isnt the same as it used to be where EVERY team wether it be New york or Portland could all compete evenly and it stinks. I live here in Los angeles with all the laker fans and they consider losing in the second round to be horrible,Blazers havent made it past 2nd round since 2000. No matter what happens the lakers will always have to money to compete and sign people while Blazers have to rebuild completely through the draft. We've had a good year so far because of Lillard and Hickson emerging, but alot of people expected us to be in the cellar with Phoenix and new orleans,if we could just spend money we could build a very strong team instead were worried about breaking the bank just to keep our own players,a problem we wouldnt have if this were New york,Miami or Los angeles

Its all about the market and the owner. For years Sterling refused to pay for anything for the Clippers and they were dreadful for years. It basically comes down to tv money. The Lakers and Knicks have huge tv deals that help them spend and spend. Without these deals I am certain that there would be a little more parody in the league. How much the new salary cap restrictions will hurt teams remains to be seen but I have a feeling it will slow things down a bit.

I too am sickened by the fact that those with money who are willing to spend it,are penalized for doing so. Then again, we're dealing with a billionaire who has the chips to absorb any luxury tax the NBA could impose upon him. I believe if he were to go and acquire a big name piece to go along with what we've got so far,he would be more than satisfied and compensated for his efforts. By big name i mean someone manning the middle thats a beast.

A ballsy move might be to go after someone like Gasol. He really does not fit in that well in LA and he would give us a legit center. I have no idea how we would go about matching the salary without giving up one of our core pieces but this would certainly be considered a bold move.

Sometimes you need a bad contract or two to make one of these big deals work and I just cannot find a way for the Blazers to make the deal without trading one of their starters.

I made the trade work on espn trade machine it took our entire bench minus Will Barton. We could make some additional moves to shore up the bench. We have a 2.2 million trade exception that could be used to add pieces. In addition, we would be able to sign additional free agents at the vet min. With our trade exception we could add a couple of pieces like Chandler Parsons and DeJuan Blair. Sign Kenyon Martin, and Chris Anderson for vet min. That would give us most of a bench. We would still need a back up PG but this would be a dramatic transition for this franchise. I do not expect anything as wild as this to happen but it is interesting to see what could happen.

I dont see a reason to go after Gasol

Old, huge contract, soft, doesnt compliment LA, eghhh

Many better options in my opinion

Signing KenyonMartin/Chris Anderson would be a good idea tho...

I think Blazers could acquire Blair if they wanted, all it would take is a second rounder and cash or something...They like D League talents so they might take Nolan off our hands hahahaha

I would disagree that he doesn't complement LA. He loves playing on the block is a solid rebounder and he does not fit the soft bill. His huge contract is a concern and with his weak play this year it needs to known if he just cannot find his place in the system or if he is getting worse. If he is getting worse than making a move probably would not help that much but ask yourself what we would be giving up in my trade just our terrible bench not bad.

I mean Gasol shoots long 2s just like Lamarcus, also isnt that great of a defender. I mean I doubt we can get him by not trading any of our starting lineup anyways.

In my opinion, I feel like if the team has the money they should be able to spend whatever they want. The luxury tax works in baseball. A lot of small market teams have been staying competitive with a small salary cap. Even though the thunder had to let James Harden go, they still have one of the best starting 5 in the league. I am against trading for Gasol. He is too old, and the blazers would have to give up someone from their young starting 5. I really don't think the blazers should make a big deal this upcoming trade deadline. We have a very young and exciting starting 5. The Blazers bench is not playoff material, but they can solve the bench problem in the off season. This year the blazers should just keep developing and getting more comfortable as a team, and if they clinch a low seed playoff spot i'll be happy, but if they don't then at least I can say the team overachieved expectations. In the off season the Blazers can develop a bench, and maybe bring in a big man to compliment JJ Hickson. All the blazers should worry about is re-signing JJ, and keep developing our young talented team. Everything else will eventually fall into place.

Portland is probably not going to spend assets to land bench players so we have very little hope of doing anything in the playoffs. You want to add a big piece then the options are Gasol, Milsap, Jefferson or Randolph that is pretty much it. Odds are most of those players would command a nice draft pick and one of our starters and we cannot make that deal. Therefore if the Lakers were willing to take our bench for Gasol that would be the best trade available.

Gasol's ability to be impactful relative to his contract make him very undesireable.  At his age and with his health issues, I couldn't be more against Gasol in a Blazer uniform.  Just my opinion.  Not gospel.

I don't really want Gasol here either I was merely pointing out that he is probably the best we could acquire. I look for this team to end up as sellers and not buyers this deadline.

If you look at our team,we rely heavy on our starting 5,so back-to-back games are very tough for us cause of the starters playing so many minutes, cleveland was a 2nd of a back to back after a overtime game in denver. But in the playoffs there are no back-to-backs and teams shorten their rotations anyways,so our team is actually well suited for playoff action, and we could knock off a san antonio or golden state, maybe even OKC cause we always play them tough

I think portland has to spend assets for bench players..it's our need. We need a 6th man more than anything right now.

Gasoft ? No thanks. Greg Monroe,Pekovic or Mosgov. As a matter of fact, the Gasol's have another brother. Adria Gasol who is 6'10". Id rather have him then Pao.
