Hoopsworld just had an interview with Neil Olshey at the D League showcase.... He basically said stuff we all already heard ...

NO has been really impressed with Terry Stotts... I HOPE Stotts and Olshey stay with us for a long time.

I think right now from a record stand point, we’re a little bit ahead of where we thought we were going to be. A lot of that is due to Terry [Stotts] and the development of some of our younger guy. But look, we’re going to stay with our philosophy which is if we can find a deal that moves the needle on a long-term basis, we’re going to be as active as anybody, but we’re not going to take incremental moves that take away our long-term flexibility.”

After listening to Olshey which route do you think he will take???

Will he make a big time trade with Lamarcus, Matthews, or Hickson to bring in a BIG name player/ "moves the needle" guy?

    OR

Stay with the current core and just try to find some complimentary pieces to add to this group?

I just hope he adds a Defensive Anchor and a Scoring 6th man and keep Hickson then be done LOL

Heres the article its a pretty good read about the Blazers

imo only player id trade those two for is lebron and we know that isnt happening matthews is the most improved blazer this year hes a deadly three point shooter and a shut down defender lamarcus is an all star and hickson is second in the league in double doubles.......i wouldnt move anyone out of our starting five this team is just catching there stride and starting to gel all its missing is some fire power off the bench and a shot blocker

The problem facing Portland is that the guys that have been powering their success are the players they’d want to hang on to, meaning any trades or changes to the roster are likely coming from the role players at the end of the bench and those personalities may not return nearly as much as Olshey would like to add.

This is an important thing to retain. Trades only will be made in order to improve the team. So if  the starting 5 is playing good, as said, surely only bench players may be traded. In my opinion there arent much bench players that could gather interest in other teams, i see only a chance on Freeland, to trade... Leonard and Babbit are the best bench players we have right now, so we should keep them at least, but a good trade wouldnt be rejected...

There are, however, teams out there not as well prepared for the ever constricting salary cap.  Memphis is currently shopping Rudy Gay for the salary dump, and they are just the first.  There will be more.  The Lakers could use several dumps of their own, as their payroll is literally double that of Portland's.  Pau Gasol and his albatross contract is where I'd start, but not where I would finish.  Problem being, who wants that contract, and who (if anyone) has the room to reasonably absorb it?  Big names will be on the move as we near the February deadline...

34 games into the season, we're above .500,and this squad of ours plays with a chip on its shoulder. Wesley Matthews is our defensive identity. JJ, nuff said. I cant help but to think how much of an offensive spark Elliot would have been off our bench were he not to have sustained that injury. If we make any moves i think they involve Nolan and Sasha, and the lesser skilled of the two Greeks we got from NY.

I hope we make some moves just not sure we will make a decision Olshey and Allen. We need to either try and do something in the playoffs which means we need a bench or we need to be in the high lottery to get another building block for the future. Either this core can win it all or you need to blow it up and fully finish the rebuild.

When i think about Ginobli and a few others who got picked up late in the first and second round of the draft, i dont think we neccessarily need to be in the lottery to acquire talent. Its more about who you pick as opposed to where you pick. Thabeet was picked 2nd i believe in the draft of 09' and he is a complete waste of height in my opinion. As long as we pick smart and not be swayed by hype, i think we'll be fine. Olshey is a great evaluator of talent, and Stotts is getting the best out of the hand he's been dealt. I think we should stand pat unless something extremely delicious comes along.

High lottery picks have a much better chance of becoming elite when compared to a late round pick or second rounder who you need to hit the lottery to find gold.

Lillard, Roy, Aldridge all high lottery picks and all awesome. Of course sometimes you blow it and take a Webster or get unlucky with injuries Oden. You will never find a Tim Duncan or  Lebron James type player late in the draft it just does not happen. A Manu or Ellis borderline all star type are possible but very rare. Being in the lottery matters and it matters a lot.

So what do you suggest, we just fold like a cheap lawn chair and hope we get a decent pick. I think as long as we keep ballin our ass off, we will be fine. Major market squads are finally loosing their foothold as the place to be in the minds of players. Durant is the poster child for successful small market franchises. Personally im tired of the prima donnas of todays NBA. Demanding trades and holding teams hostage in the process. As i see it, we have stars in place. What we need are competent roles players to elevate the play of our bench and the ever elusive unicorn... a real Center.

yea idk about elliot he hasn't played enough basketball to even be in any talks about being a productive bench player he had nice games here and there when he was healthy but we don't even know if he can even be a consistant player he has literally played less then a seasons worth of games and has played far less then oden did when h was nearing the end of his rookie contract

From all of those you mentioned, there are few that we could target, since our tradeable players are worse then most off that i think. but there are some of them that could fit well in th team... Maybe using freeland and some other bench players (Barton and Leonard not included) and some 2nd round draft picks, we coud get 1 or 2 good bench players.

Last night vs Chicago, Sanders had 6 pts (3-6), 12 rebounds, and...SEVEN blocks (Milwaukee had 15 for the game).  He's a healthy and athletic 6'11", Dame's age, and a CENTER.  Ideal, and a possible cornerstone to add alongside Lillard.  If I have to part with JJ, Sanders would be a nice return.

Sanders is really a monster blocker! But it isnt easy to get... We have a young team(1/2 of the team as 2years pro of less), i think we should get some more experienced players, that really improve the teams performance.

We have the mindset that we can beat anybody. As we should. If and or when we make the playoffs, it wont be because of luck. We're going to make it or not make it because we either deserve to be there or we dont. No gray area. Thats what we do. We ball, no excuses. We've won without Wesley,L.A. and Meyers. All we have to do is win the games we're supposed to win, and a few of those that we're not expected to win. Like last nights win against the Heat. That was a great edge of your seat game. I look forward to more of those. Blowouts are great, but the games decided by 2 or less points are why i really love this game. You never know who is going to make something happen. We have a phenominal starting five that at any given moment can make a huge play. JJ snatching a board, Batum with a block,L.A. with a turnaround,Lillard with the clock winding down, and last night Wesley with a crucial step back three that was unbelievable. Our guys are not afraid of the big moment and thats whats going to separate us from alot of other teams.

This year in my oppinion we should'nt trade anyone. JJ Hickson  is  a 6'9 center, who is an okay defender and a good rebounder but i dont see value in a player like that. And JJ has played well with us so far so why trade him? and Lamarcus,Matthews,Batum, and Lillard have all proved that they are a good fit for the Blazers But then we have our bench which is not great. So im thinking this year all we should do is improve our bench in FREE AGENTS,this year we might make the playoffs but if we improve our bench we have a good chance of making the playoffs.

I mean I can live with Barton, Babbit, Jeffries, Freeland and Leonard I guess but

Ronnie just drives me crazy some games! A few he would bring lock down D and smart moves and others he will think he is Chris Paul and take the dumbest shots and make the dumbest passes!

Please get our Star PG a back up FO

Scott Machado is out there, Eric Maynor is available, Sacremento got 3 PGs, Cmon Blazers find a PG haha

Bucks would maybe want us to take Goodens contract. Bucks would be pretty foolish to give this guy up tho.

    Philly gets- Hickson and Price

Bucks gets- Dorrel Wright, Myers Leonard, Nolan Smith, Blazers Second rounder

Blazers gets- Larry Sanders, Beno Udrih

Greg Monroe could be a piece easily moved with a multi team deal. Detroit has shown their love for Drummond, and he looks to be the longtime piece there. Also, Detroit is a major player for a deal with Sacramento for Cousins.

    One idea

Kings get- Wizards 1st round pick, Okafor, Bradley Beal

    Pistons get- Cousins, Tyreke Evans

Wizards get- Stuckey, John Salmons, JJ Hickson, Blazers 2nd round pick

    Blazers get- Greg Monroe

Aldridge and Monroe would be terrific together

Neither is trading LA or Batum.  Why not explain why you think the trade wouldn't work, or why you like it or don't like it, instead of just saying someone's opinion is "not very logical?"

From a tallent perspective, perhaps.  But I have read many reports how terrible the locker room in Sac is the worst in the NBA, and that there isn't a real leader.  Look how Crawford and Felton played for Portland, and how they are now player for LAC and NY.  Sometimes it's best to cut guys loose and get what you can for them.  I could see the Wiz giving up Wall before Beal, but that's just my opinion.

I certainly do not see how they could not afford both of them. At least as long as Drummond is on the rookie deal. Maggette, Maxiell, Bynum and Daye are all coming off the books this year and Villanueva and Stuckey have player options. The Pistons could be as low as 28 million in salary next season if all leave. Otherwise they can just use the expiring 16 million the year after to lock up Monroe.

What about spencer hawes? He has arguably been the most consistent player on the slumping sixers this season... He's the same age as JJ and is a true center. Also when Bynum is healthy they can move jj to play the more natural power forward considering they don't have one right now

Spencer Hawes is good but is like a BJ Mullens, he takes a lot of long jumpers. But his 36 min numbers are very good 15 pts 9 reb 2 blocks.... Philly is in need of a PF but then they would have a big gap at center, maybe if we give up Hickson AND Leonard for Hawes

Maybe we can grab Nick Young out that deal too haha

do you think they would trade their Starting Center and a good bench player (the best rookie they got) for hickson, that is a PF, and they already have BiG Baby Davis, playing good and Nicholson of the bench?

blazers get- Nikola Vucevic, Andrew Nicholson, eric bledsoe, and trey thompkins.

orlando get- jj hickson, matt barnes, LA 2nd round pick.

Clippers get- luke babbitt, ronnie price, and dequan cook

tell me if you think this work

also the blazers would get better because hickson and nikola stats are similar, we would get a solid back up Guard player. 2 PF that can back up both batum and Aldridge. we can get meyers and nikola split playing time, both play 24 mins. per game.

so what you think BLAZERS FAN.
