Trail Blazers (16-15) At Grizzlies (20-9)

    What To Watch For

    Speed The Game Up
The Grizzlies live and breathe Grit n Grind basketball. It's their team identity and the style of play that's got them to where they are currently - a 20-9 record and a clear path to home-court advantage in the playoffs. Really, only JJ Hickson can match that brand of basketball for 48 minutes, so Portland would be wise to "pretty" the game up. The Trail Blazers should push the tempo at any given chance, attack the basket, shoot the open 3 and try to get as many possessions out of this game as possible. It's this one becomes a slobberknocker, grinf-it-out affair, it really plays into Memphis' hands. That's not to say the Blazers shouldn't fight for every rebound, but this game needs to be up in the 100's for the Trail Blazers to win.

    Defend The Paint
Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph are arguable the best 1-2 tandem down low in the NBA. Both players have the ability to beat you from the outside as well as down low in the post. If you're Portland, dare those two to shoot jumpers all game. If they go in, they go in. But with the Blazers already down a center in Meyers Leonard, they cannot afford to lose any other bigs due to foul trouble and if Memphis is putting up jumpers instead of attacking the basket, the chances of guys like Aldridge and Hickson staying in the game increase. But the biggest key to winning this game is offensive rebounding. Not only does Portland have to get cheap, easy buckets to get their total over 100 but Memphis lives off of Z-Bo and Marc's combined 7.1 offensive rebounds per game.

Yeah it's gonna be a tough game and I'm nervous for our team. I know we can win, the only question is do we play with the urgency like against the knicks, or do we crumble like against the raptors

It's a test. This is a test of the Emergency Blazer fan System. The broadcasters of your area in voluntary cooperation with the FCC and other authorities have developed this system to keep you informed in the event of Rip City.

This is one of the few teams I didn't see us matching up well with this season. Hope the Blazers step up and redeem that ugly loss in Toronto with a win here.

Agreed Riverman. Memphis' size is going to be a huge issue and concern for me tonight. But the Blazers are a strange team. They'll beat the Lakers, Knicks, and Spurs but lose to the Raptors, Wizards, and Pistons so who really knows?

Agree.  On paper, this one looks to have a Raptor-like outcome, despite even a respectable Blazer effort.  Pull on the big boy pants fellas.  Nic with his length and athleticism, and Wes with his competitiveness are going to HAVE to be disruptive on the perimeter defensively for Portland to have a shot.  This Memphis team is our Superman's kryptonite.  Potential for the Grizz to have a season high in assists tonight.  Bring it Portland.

22 scoring changes, 9 ties...  what a game!  Lots of great defense, mixed with some not great exicution.  I was yelling at my TV all game.

Wes was huge on both ends of the court, just simply invaluable.  Five 3 pointers, and 3 steals that hardly tell the story of how much he impacted the defensive end.  Easily the MVP tonight.

LA with 15/12 and 5 blocks - with a huge block at the end of the game.

JJ got abused a few times by Gasol, but certainly played some of his best defense of the year.  It does beg the question, can you imagine what having a real Center like M. Gasol on this team would mean (8 blocks)?

19/11 and 2 blocks.  Only 5/8 from the line, but his last trip in crunch time he went 2 for 2!

TURNOVERS - 10 in the first half (painful) - 4 in the 3rd quarter (when will it end?!) - 1 in the 4th (WELL PLAYED!)

THREE POINTERS - 37%, but make 10 of them to the Grizz's 2

Some of the worst officiating I've seen since... Toronto.  Has it been THAT long?  Whether it was Gasol using both hands to defend LA in the post or shoving him into Gasol's own teamates, or the amount of contact they allowed at the top of the key, or Kennedy litterally passing the ball back to Memphis when it should have sailed out of bounds... just brutal.  But they stayed out of the end of the game for the most part, and let the two teams decide their own fate in an extremly close game.

Even with Randoph out for the Grizz, one of the best wins of the year.

Great great game!! To beat this team on their homecourt was special and by 2 pts...adjustments were made from the last game and this was a quality win tonight! My Raptors hangover is cured!
