    Played fewer than 10 games.  Who didn't know this was going to happen?  1,2,3 not it.  Minnesota's free agency last summer was as big a train wreck as Roy's knees.  I feel bad for Roy, but this isn't really news... is it?

    Bone on bone is just never going to improve. I watched some preseason workouts with him when the Wolves signed him and he was shuffling awkwardly down the court, My preseason prediction was he'd make it to the allstar game, have 2 great games for them and retire. He didn't make it that far...Blazers offered him a job with the organization when he first retired after being waived. He'd be a good commentator. I'm grateful for what he brought to the Blazers for those few years but in the end here, he cost us Andre Miller for Raymond Felton. Oh well! I hope he has a productive retirement!

    BRoy isn't' retiring... yet.  He is going through the same treatments that he did last spring.  It doesn't help or hurt Minnesota really.  They already made their bed during free agency.  Cap relief won't change at the end of the year whether Roy retires now, or Minnesota doesn't pick up the 2nd year of his contrat.  Opting to wine and dine Roy versus options like Mayo was a huge mistake, as was squandering a week of free agency trying to sign Batum in vain.

    Kahn was the only one to offer Roy a multi-year, making the former Blazer all-star's decision on where he would play an easy one. How Kahn isn't in the unemployment line, I don't know. I feel for Roy like most, but empathize like few can. Love the heart and the work ethic...his strengths will be his undoing. Very unfortunate.

    Actually, I heard that if he retires within the next couple of days then the T-Wolves won't have it count towards their cap. ESPN could be wrong but I'm just going off of what they wrote.

    Roy DNP last year, and he played less than 10 regular season games, so if he were to retire, his contract could come off the books 60 days after Nov 9th (the last time he played).  Unlike Darius Miles, who's pre-season games counted toward 10 games, and who's salary Portland was forced to pay.  This change happened in the new CBA.  But the wolves do not appear to be waiving Roy.  So this exception doesn't even come into play.

    They Twolves, being over the cap, may apply for a waiver that would allow them to sign a free agent to a one year contract for half of Roy's salary ($2.5 mil)  This is more likely.

    Roy's contract will come off the books regardless should the Twolves not pick up his option next year.

    Thanks for that comment Blazer Fanatic, I didn't know that. I thought there were conditions on Roy with the Wolves that would insure them in case his knees went quickly? Seem to remember something along that line when he signed with them.

    Roys signed a 2 year deal.  Next year is for a non-guaranteed $5,329,500 mil.  I'm not sure why they don't waive him and pick up another guard.  Right now Minn only has 3 servicable guards (shved, ridenour, burea).  I realize the pickin's are slim, but still.  Nothing the Twolf front office does makes any sense.

    Lets not forget Paul Allen is still paying Brandon Roy his contract under the terms of the CBA.

    It's a sad story overall. Brandon Roy is/was a great addition to the NBA, and I hate to see someone of that talent and caliber end on a tragic note. All the same, I think it's only appropriate that someone who filed a "career ending injury" case in 2011 will not be playing basketball in 2013. I didn't respect his decision to return after only one year off, having had no advancements in his medical condition. There's no such thing as ending mid-contract based on a "season-long rest injury."

    @Siccolo...

    I felt Greg was the most impactful center in the league while healthy and on the floor.  LaMarcus is now the only remaining piece from that dream not realized.  The three-headed monster of Roy, GO, and LA may very well have been precedent setting...bringing a small market a dynasty.   Brandon has always felt to me like a guy who had a real love for the game and an unbelievable feel for it, which is exactly why I've kept the avatar.  Just feel very grateful to have had him here, in a Blazer uniform, helping to transform the image of the franchise and making Portland relevant on a national level.  Always be a fan of Roy, both the player and the man.

    Doesn't insurance cover some of Brandon's salary from the Blazers? The Blazers offered him a job with the organization when they waived him and I think he'd be welcomed back in a non player capacity if he chose a career change. He's articulate enough to do commentary or become a shooting coach like Dan Dicau was. If he retires as a player and comes back to work for the organization I think his jersey will hang in the rafters, if not I'm not sure it will. If Oden comes back he should play for free at this point. I don't think he will though. Greg was a great prospect and he did what a center should do, but off court alcohol and rehab don't work together. That showed a lot of immaturity and lack of commitment. I wish Brandon well but wasn't such a big fan the last year and a half he played here. If not for Brandon we'd have Lillard and Andre Miller at the point and Felton never would have come here. Moving on...

    Brandon, Lamarcus, Greg would have been a championship team

    but now we have to look forward to Lamarcus, Damian, Batum, Hickson, Wes, I LOVE how good and young our core is currently so we wont have to give up this core soon to FA or Old Age

    Im not impressed with Gortat. Everyone wants him but he seems mediorcre to me. He is the most realistic option since all it would take is the 10th pick, but I think he is old and declining.
