Trail Blazers (14-13) At Lakers (14-15)

    What To Watch For

    Keep The Role Players Quiet
We know Kobe will get his 30, after all he does average 27.3 ppg against the Trail Blazers in 56 career games. Dwight was unstoppable on Halloween night, going off for 33 points, 14 rebounds and even shooting 15-19 from the charity stripe. Gasol is good for 15 and 10. And Steve Nash is always a threat to post a double-double. With that all said, the Lakers may have one of the worst benches in the entire NBA. For the Trail Blazers to win, no other player outside of the core four can go off. That's exactly how the Blazers defeated the Lakers, 116-106 on Opening Night, by only allowing 15 points off the Lakers bench. The one player Portland must keep an eye on is Ron Artest. It seems like whenever he plays well against us it usually ends in a Lakers win.

    Be The Aggressors
This is where Damian Lillard can really take his game to another level. We know he's got a mean jumper and can take over with the best of them, but when he starts getting his opponent in foul trouble early on is a sign that he's really going to be on his way. Steve Nash, as great as he is, is still nearing 40 years old and will never be confused as a defensive stopper, which is why it's important for Lillard to attack early. If Nash is playing off, in fear of foul trouble, then use the step-back game to his advantage. Now, in the post, Aldridge and Hickson must keep Howard off the offensive glass. Limiting LA's second-chance points in crucial. If Portland can shoot at least 20 free throws and win the rebound battle, the Trail Blazers will be 2-0 against the Lakers this season.

No way DHo should be in uniform.  With Howard playing, checkmate...Lakers win.  Stotts in a tank top would fair better in the paint defensively than any player Portland has currently, as evidenced by the scary Halloween numbers Howard put up.  Like driving up my street and seeing my neighbor playing his 10 year old son in their driveway.  Just not even close.  Freeland and Leonard will BOTH have to have career nights if our beloved Blazers are to have a chance.  We all know what JJ will bring.

No crystal ball needed here. The Blazers have but just ONE win to their credit this season when not shooting a better percentage than their opponent. Lacking a post threat offensively, and having to defend a dominant post player (and on the road) are not variables that favor Portland.

Glad he shot 19 free throws last time. NO WAY he scored 15 of them today.

Howard didn't get suspended. Going to be a chance for our rookie bigs to gain some experience playing the post. JJ is not afraid of him. We can win this game if we defend, protect the ball and share the ball.

Can someone PLEASE help me understand why the rules of basketball seem to differ if the personis in an ugly yellow and purple uniform? !?! Obvious fouls are not called against any Laker player however; if it looks questionable (or not even close) the whistles are going crazy...no wonder why the Laker players look shocked the rare times fouls are called on them. I love a good game and if it's called fair and we don't get the win so be it but come on ref's, at least make an attempt at good calls ...no matter what color jersey the dude is wearing. Thanks

ugly effort by the Blazers. Lamarcus did everything he could but it was an embarrassing loss and a disappointing one. We really need Wes back to defend the Kobe's of the league.

I'm not normally one to cite officiating (or lack of) and will never assess blame for a loss...ANY loss...in the direction of the stripes.  However, when politics dictate the direction of the whistles and not objectivity, control of the game is what is sacrificed with the health and well being of the players not far behind.  What Howard did to LaMarcus was borderline assault and battery.  Aldridge and his badly bruised chest getting whistled for fouling Howard's shoulder as he stood his ground, planted, with his arms and hands down. Within a matter of seconds, LA absorbed what was clearly three offensive fouls from the league's strongest player...on the same play.  The better team won the game.  The better player went to the locker room hurt.

@river...no doubt Wesley's perimeter D was missed tonight, but again, I cannot overstate this.  When you predominantly shoot jumpers against a team you predominantly give lay-ups and dunks to...you're going to lose, and more often than not, by a large and convincing margin.  No post offense + no post defense = inevitable loss.  Too bad we don't have the Raptors on the schedule a few more times this season.

Hawes will be a hot commodity by the trade deadline, I would think the sixers could find a better offer.

However, I do believe Mo Williams could have somewhat of  a high trade value. Olshey needs to make a deal to get a big man while we...

Yeah and now Blazers have zero interest in Bynum. I really thought he was worth the small risk. If anything he would be at the end of our bench and we use him as a sub. Hopefully we do make some type of trade for a quality back up center. Right no...
