If any one of the Portland Coaches had the brains, they would look at this glaring stat:

In looking at our losses, Batum has had abysmal nights in his three point shots and they usually more times than not, start with him missing three or four in arrow and from that point on his total game goes to garbage.

In Portland’s 13 losses Batum has shot 25/82 or 30%.  Now in two of those losses, Batum had good three point shooting nights, where he went 5/10 against Washington and then against San Antonio he went 5/7.  So you take those two games out and in the remaining 11 games we have lost, Batum has shot 15/65 or 23%. In those 11 games the rest of his game was non-existent as well.

Now in our 13 games we have won, Batum has shot a respectable 37/94 or 41%.  Breaking that down further if you subtract his horrible shooting performances of the games we won, 2/9 against Phoenix, 1/6 San Antonio, 1/7 Minnesota, and 2/8 Sacramento his three point average was an incredible 31/64 or 48/5%.  Now in the four games we won, the rest of his game was off the charts.

So my question is, wouldn’t it make sense for Stott’s to pull him aside on those nights when he misses his first few three point shots and tell him to start driving the land or take short jumpers?

Before the Batum Lover’s starting persecuting me, I am not criticizing his game; what I am doing is pointing out a opportunity for Stott’s and the rest of the coaching staff to help improve his game and help the Blazers win more games.  Now if the Portland Coaches, coach to this weakness and it still does not improve, than it is on Batum.

I think the problem with the pick and roll not clicking isn't on the guards or wings as much as it's on the frontcourt not setting screens. Also not enough ball movement. Because of this Nic shoots more 3s with Damien driving the lane or shooting a jumper before passing off. Several games Nic and LA have had more assists than our pt guard. Both Meyers and JJ look for their shot first before setting screens, something Pryz was a master at. Good passing and good screens always lead to pts in the paint. It's not all on nic and wes to create those plays.

I am going to preface what I'm about to say by saying once again, that at this juncture I am satisfied with Nic's contributions and his improvement.  Now, to reiterate what I have spoken about several times...I would like to see Batum take that next step, and develop his abilities to put the rock to the floor and look to create for himself and others off the dribble.  TRIPLE THREAT.  If you notice in watching how Nic is played defensively, more often than not his defender will be in his jersey on the catch when he is positioned out on the perimeter...particularly behind the arc.  Scouting reports are the cause.  This has led to a poorer 3pt FG% than what Batum is capable.  Moreover, I would guess nine of ten times Nic has superior athletic abilities over that defender pressuring him on the perimeter, making his reluctancy to put the ball on the floor that much more curious.  If Nic were to develop a first step and the ability to put the ball on the floor and create, I have absolutely no doubt he would be an all-star.  Batum has all the necessary skills to initiate the offense, in a point-forward type of roll.

That's still better than Price's numbers from 3 on the season, and as good as his FG% on the season.  But I would agree, Batum needs to pick up his shooting.  I think he's trying to do too much, and I hope he finds a happy medium as the season progresses.

I did see Batum in a couple games decide to step within the arc and take a closer jumper instead of launching the three ball. I think one of the main things with Batum not driving is that his dribbling really isn't up to par and so driving into the lane is a bit iffy. If he hones his dribbling skills a bit more then I feel like he would be more confident in taking it into the lane like was mentioned above.

I agree his dribbling is questionable.  On other posts this is the same issue that keeps him from being the "Pippen" on our team.  If he really focuses on his dribling in the off season, and plays in the summer legue like Wes to work on that one skill, he will be a heck of a lot more valuable to Portland next season.

He could even do it this season if he elected to doso.

The problem with JJ remains the same at the 4 or 5 he is just not a good enough defender. Milsap and especially Smith are good defenders. The also both offer more on the offensive side than JJ does.

Exactamundo. Seriously though, both of you''ll are right. The blame should be placed on the attacker, not Lillard. That being said, Dame should have stepped in.

I completely agree. Pierce would bring a culture change. And we as a team really needed someone to help our young players through the tough times. Jeffires and Pavlovic were veterans who didn''t see much court time and from what I saw didn''t real...

Joakim Noah has had his injury troubles. His crazy game and high energy make him a constant injury threat. What separates him from Oden and Rose (I had to just mention him) is his willingness to play the way he loves.
