I think that if we do horrible enough we might be able to get a good sg (Shabazz Muhammad for example) and if that sg proves to be in the starting line up chances are that wesley is going to be a 6th man. However the questions are:

will wesley be accepting a 6th man role?

Will wesley provide enough of the bench?

Why would you want a guy like Wes, a lockdown defender who defends the best scorers in the NBA night in and night out coming off the bench as a 6th man? That guy should be someone who scores in bunches and maintains a lead on offense. Wes is a Bruce Bowen type guy who doesn't look to score and can hit the three as the 4th option. There are a lot of scorers who will be looking for work when the cap kicks in next summer. I still have hope for Elliot Williams to step into that role. JJ Reddick is a free agent, Ray Allen is a free agent, Kevin Martin is a free agent, Michael Redd is a free agent coming into the summer. There are plenty of guys and teams like the Clippers are going to be scrambling to shed salary off their benches next summer. Eric Maynor is another guy coming up. The options are many but I like our starting core now.

I agree river. Further, watching Shabazz play makes me a believer in the early assessments that this upcoming draft class is weak. This kid is nothing more than EW, whom we already have. Muhammad is left hand dominant and an athlete. I haven't seen any evidence of a right hand. If he is truly projected as high as 1st, that scares me. He will disappear on somebody's bench and probably not be heard from again. Remember Armon? Great athlete with a killer instinct, but didn't develop both hands. Really a discredit to family and friends, coaches too as these kids grow that nobody steps in and teaches fundamentals. Particularly for guards, the ability to go with either hand and FINISH with either is not a plus, it's a necessity at this highest level. Watch Muhammad this season and see if he doesn't at least attempt to develop his right. If not, I wouldn't even consider burning a second round pick on the kid.

I want to hear a legitimate argument as towards why Wesley should be moved to 6th man.. I just want someone to actually have a reason for that lol. Cuz I can't think of one, but I'm open to hearing out anyone who provides good reasoning

^I agree.  Wes has been playing hurt most of this young season with a bad wrist.  Shooters often struggle with wrist injuries.  Wesley still finds ways to be impactful and contribute, despite the injury.

This argument came up in another thread.  I don't understand it at all.  It's like having a leaky sink, so you decide that the bath but needs to get ripped out.  Someone who thinks Wes is a 6th man explain how that solves anything on offense, or defense...

Both Harden and Williams are volume shooters.  Both took shots away from other people on their team.  Wes is not a volume shooter that takes shots away from people.  Harden took shots away from KD, Williams took shots away from Iguodala.  Wes does not need shots to do what he does best. Wes is a lock down defender at SG.  One needs to understand what Wes is best at, and what he does for the Blazers, to even begin to argue whether he should start or come off the bench.

I think we all are starting to realize that we don't have a legit 6 man yet. That needs to be a guy getting 20 pts off the bench. Our best bench prodution has only had two guys crack 10 pts and each in only one game. Price had 12 one game and Leonard had 12 one game. We're probably going to have to send someone to the D league this month if not a couple of guys and sign a scorer to come off the bench. Olshey said this month they'll decide who that will be. Right now there are only a couple of unsigned scorers available..both shooters with little defense. Michael Redd and Baron Davis. Other guys available and I shudder to think about it...Mike Bibby and Delonte West.

A practical solutions worth discussing riverman. Nice.

20 min a game would be HUGE for the reducing the burdon on the starters and provide production on the offensive end.  Stotts keeps 2 starters in the game at all times, and as sad as those choices are, any would help out when that other starter is Hickson or LA.

I shutter at the though of Davis, in that I think he would be a liability on defense and offense, and that any "veteran" leadership he might bestow on Lillard wouldn't be worth the trade-off.  Bibby and West... just solicites more questions than provides answers.  The only way I can even begin to attack this conundrum is to start with the reality that Nolan is simply not cutting it, and I don't have much more of a glowing view of Price.

We wouldn't be able to sign a free agent anyway because we already have a complete roster of 15. That's the same reason why we didn't sign Coby Karl.

Saw the response coming a mile away, and it's a little frustrating having to explain, as you did, when fans don't understand stuff like this.  It should be assumed someone would be sent to the D-League, to bring someone new onto the team.  And now we have room for Redd and back up PG.  Any PG that can bring the ball up the court and pass to an open man without turning the ball over would be considered reliable in my book, given what we have now.

Will Barton and Victor Claver’s current assignment to the D-League will be a short one

Both Will Barton and Victor Claver were assigned to the Trail Blazers’ D-League affiliate the Idaho Stampede on Friday. Stints in the D-League are common for young players with the purpose of getting them more live-game minutes. Though some assignments to Idaho are open-ended, these two are not. Both will be back in Portland to participate in practice on Sunday.

“It’s an opportunity for them to get two games under their belt,” Head Coach Terry Stotts said. “They’ll play 35-40 minutes in two nights so it’s a good opportunity. They won’t be here tomorrow,  but it’s good for them and we need to take advantage of the Stampede. They’ll come back Sunday, they’re there for two games.”

Time will tell.  Our bench stinks right now.  They cannot hold a lead, let alone build one.  Playing our starters as many minutes as they have been playing is unsustainable.

Baton is getting caught in the air with no one to pass to, stepping out of bounds, shooting contested jumpers instead of passing to the open man or swinging the ball, and he's not finishing at the rim very well.  He needs to learn the offense and practice it in a game situations so he can focus on making better decisions in the game, and on not making silly and very unecessary mistakes.  He hurts as much as he helps right now.

Okay, I''ll admit it, I like Asik better. I definitely think they will both have very good careers. And finally, someone who agrees, that Ibaka is a  shot blocker, not really a great defender.

Henson will be solid down the road but his ceiling is more like Taj Gibson. He is a great role player but not elite like Sanders and Ibaka could be if people were not so willing to shoot on him.
