Easy fellas. The title of this thread was and is, in the form of a question, not a statement, presumably to inspire an intelligent conversation among Blazer fans featuring pros and cons, "whys" and "why nots". In an 82 game schedule, it may be a bit early to use absolutes in conversation and post "I told you so's". It's a long season. Let's all enjoy the ride, marvel in the development of our youth, and recognize as fans of this team, we are all part of the Blazer family.

It's all good BDawg but you gotta understand that the opening sentence was not a question on the post. It was a statement saying it's Damiens team and LaMarcus isn't an allstar...you've got to expect people to take exception to those statements on a thread. I think now we have a great starting 5 and maybe 7 players I'd like to see retire as Blazers. I personally gave the bench 30 games to step up and we're 18 games in with guys stepping up. I've wanted the team for decades to be a TEAM first and foremost and let individual stats take a backseat. It's a great season to watch this transformation and I'm optimistic.

Does anybody really think trading LA will bring back equal value? the ship isn't sinking. some fans are just overly dramatic, myself included. personally i wouldn't mess with the starting 5. maybe a little more faith in the bench will help. hopefully somebody will step up and if they're consistent and that's enough to start winning some games that's great but if not at least they're getting some PT so you can shop them. it wouldn't hurt to trade a couple bench players at this point for somebody halfway decent and then fill the gap with a d-leaguer or 2. couldn't be much worse could it?

Does anybody think LMA will be an all-star this year?  I think people are way too wrapped up in that title.  It was nice for LMA and the city but honestly, it doesn't mean all that much today.  Gerald Wallace was also a former all-star and we traded him.  Worked out pretty well.  I'm not advocating yes we trade LMA immediately, but I'm saying you guys/gals need to be open to these ideas for the good of the team and not get so overheated about it.  If you honestly think that LMA provides more value on the court going forward than he would as a trade chip then you have that right, but I think it's definitely worth exploring and I guarantee the Blazers are doing just that.

I think he's worthy of being an all star but I'm not sure he will this yr. There are plenty of players who are centerpieces to their respctive teams who are not all stars. I get that we could trade him. The argument among the board is why we should or why we shouldn't.

Gerald wallace is and has been on the decline, he's nicknamed Crash because of his style of play. His body won't keep alowing him to play exceptionally well the way he does now because of how his style is. Batum is a star on the rise, who was outplaying Gerald off of the bench. This is a completely different circumstance. JJ Hickson is in no way better than or even near the level of Lamarcus Aldridge. That's my point, and that's why trading him would make 0 sense. Sorry for those that would disagree but until JJ proves otherwise, there's nothing you can substantially say that makes that argument worthy.

I'm not overheated, just believe that trading away your best and most consistent player is not going to make this franchise any better, so I would gladly share my opinion in hopes that people begin don't start to wander off with that idea. And unless he outright states he's not going to play for this team, or shows a lack of effort. I honestly don't see a way in which management would look in that direction at all. That only takes away from the goal that this current team is trying to accomplish, and management building off the current roster & "move the needle."

And as fans, I don't believe wanting a current player to be traded benefits anyone at all, unless that player is playing awful. Which LA is not

I would have to agree with uprised. I personally do not believe that LA is really playing to the level of an All-Star or really even outplaying JJ by that much for the most part. If you think about it, most of the time LA gets more minutes and shots on the court then JJ. I'm sure that offensively, JJ is far inferior. Yet defensively, JJ is a workhorse and someone that fights for the ball, which is something that LA doesn't do. I can honestly say that if we did get a trade offer that would be of value, then we should at least think of it.

Here's the punchline...for JJ to be productive and impactful he just has to be on the floor.  Very little is ever drawn up for Hickson.  Hickson therefore is what traditional PFs in this league always have been, and he is currently one of the best.  Conversely, for Aldridge to be productive, you must run the ball thru him, often ending the possession with him, traditionally more descriptive of a 3 or even a 5.  Adjusting the roles and expectations of those around said player to accomodate the unique skillset is dangerous, particularly when that player is unproductive.  That said, and in Aldridge's defense, he has been playing up to the level we're accustomed to seeing from him as of late.

The vision and long term plan following the draft of '06 was to have GO and BRoy complimenting LaMarcus.  Until and unless this team can find a player at the 5 who dominates the paint the way Oden did when healthy, Aldridge and his unique skillset will at times hurt this team.  Hibbert was therefore very much worth pursuing.

How do you win with your best player being a PF? You need defense, defense and more defense. This team does not have that not even close. Boston's best player was Garnett but he was surrounded by so much help that is a poor example. The Mavericks team is a good example of this with Marion, Kidd and expecially Chandler all playing high level defense. However, the main difference here is Dirk is not a post player, you could give him the ball beyond the three point line and he could make the shot if his man sagged off, if he got to close Dirk would drive by him and with his array of off balanced shots he was unguardable. Even worse if you fouled him he shot 90% from the line.

LA has skills but he needs help getting the ball into quality scoring opportunities. Basically the best comparison would be to Duncan but his rebounding or defensive fundamentals are miles behind Duncan. If we do not surround LA with quality depth and stellar defense this team has zero chance of winning a title.

We need to make some changes and trading LA should be the start of building a contender. However, we can only trade him if we get some quality pieces in return.

I like JJs upside. I like our whole core. JJ however had two games this season ..one with 0 pts and 0 rebounds and one with 3 pts and 6 boards..show me one game where LaMarcus has put up those numbers? Fans need to understand that supporting players on the roster is a good thing. No GM in the league would replace LaMarcus with JJ. They are teammates, not adversaries. Our starters are logging more minutes than most starters in the NBA night in night out and we're a month and a half into the season 8-11. Vote for any allstar you want, it's your vote. LaMarcus, Nic and Wes get my vote. I don't know what drinking Kool aid means. Never drank the stuff...don't drink soda pop either but I'm tired of being defined by anyone with an opposing view as an adversary. I'm a Blazer fan first and formost and opinions come with the territory. LaMarcus just set an Nba record this season. Compare his stats and production with any PF in the league and see where he stands. Compare his contract to Griffins, Duncans, Garnetts, Nowitskis, Gasols, Lee's , Loves..etc...I think he's earned some praise here. JJ scores and rebounds but is not a great defender or setter of screens and often forgets to pass out of the post to the open man off an offensive rebound. All of these issues can be corrected...that's coaching. I think they will be.

People say oh don't trade this guy or that but the truth is, for the good of your team you as a GM need to know the true value of your top players because in the end it is a business of winning and  you do what you must both for the player and the team. I think an LA trade should involve at least 2 unrestricted 1st rounders from a cellar dweller only and 2 players probably pf/c.

Which I think is the argument FOR trading him sooner than later.  I get the arguments against trading him too.  Very tough decision for the Blazers I think.

Anyone who watched that road trip knows this is Damian's team. It was his 7 points in a minute that sparked the comeback in Charlotte and he continues to take and make the big shots. I like LA, especially when he's grabbing big time offensive rebounds in the post, but we need to sell high here to complete the rebuild. Let him go to a contender and play in the postseason and let's get some young prospects and picks to expedite the rebuilding process.

Yes, let's rebuild.  Trade away any good players we have for unknown assests.  Wes, Batum, LA... gotta trade 'em all while their value is high right?  So we can get what?  oh... worse.
