It looks like we will have right around $12 million to play with this summer after declining the options on Luke Babbitt, Elliot Williams, and Nolan Smtih and if we do not hold onto Hickson's Bird Rights. I've seen other places that JJ's cap hold is up to $7.6 million if we wanted to retain his Bird Rights. For kicks, let's assume we have around $12 million. Who do you go after?

I really like Tyreke Evans. He's a big, slashing 2-guard who can handle the ball when Damian's out of the game. He was a 20/5/5 guy his rookie year so he magically didn't stop being productive, although his 12 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists per game look very lackluster. But, in the end, it could turn out to be a bargain for Portland. And I think he'd flourish alongside Batum, Lillard, and Aldridge. This way we would be able to bring Wes off the bench for a scoring punch.

If we have extra money left over, I'd like to try to bring back JJ or another JJ, Jarrett Jack as we'll need a guard who's able to play both positions coming off of the bench.

right now i would go after aaron brooks since he would be a bench player and he is cheap, then i would go after OJ MAYO to be the starter and put Wes in the bench. if we just do that without getting JJ back,  we would have a scoring bench with starting 5 in Lillard, Mayo, Batum, LA, and Meyers since JJ and Myers are the same player

    RESIGN HICKSON!!!

After that I agree with Tyreke because I think he will come at a bargain. OJ Mayo would be a great pick up to. Ive wanted Jarret Jack back for a while now. Agree with you both.

Tony Allen and Pekovic should be considered in my opinion.

The offseason question is really contingent on which team is overloaded at the 2 or combo guard without the cap to pay them. That shortens the list. I know OKC will probably not resign Kevin Martin and he's a natural 6 man. I understood we had 13 million in cap space. Somebody is going to want a chunk of that and I don't think we can tell who it will be until spring. I hope we target unrestricted free agents and avoid the waiting game like we got caught up in with Hibbert this summer. One thing I do know is that Neil Olshey knows more about these guys than any fan writing comments. We also have 2 guys in Greece that are really talented. I'd like to have Patty Mills back and the Rhino back as well.

I like your guys picks but, I think OJ gonna stay a Maverick next year and if Tyreke buy in on what we trying to do here I think he will be a good pick up I believe we have guys here who will keep him in line, I also would love to get Jarrett back too if we can't my next choice would be Beno Udrih or Jose Calderon and for big guys I would like to get Timofey Mozgov or Zaza Pachulia but, if we want younger bigs I like Ekpe Udoh and Larry Sanders.

I hope these suggestions are possible: re-sign (PF) J.J. Hickson, sign (C) Ronny Turiaf or Larry Sanders, and (PG) Patty Mills or Jarrett Jack, and (SG) Tyreke Evans or J.J Redick. Add in Kostas Papanikolaou and Georgios Printezis from Greece, though bringing them in will likely create a logjam at the 3 - I believe one of them is likely to be traded away.

Pekovic is leaps and bounds better than last season. He's why they're winning with all their core players out. Guy is a defender first, doesn't show on the stats but he's really efficient. He's also going to get paid. We can't buy into big contracts with our 13 mil next year. We need a 6 man lights out shooter at some point off the bench but all this matters very little until spring when we see who's availabe. Even a slow guy like Al Jefferson makes 15 mil a year.

Why are people recommending Tyreke as starting SG?

    1. Sure we could get him low, but he's clearly regressing & is one of the most inconsistent players in the league.

    2. He's a downgrade from Wesley, what does he do that Wesley can't do?. and much of what Wesley does is far better than Tyreke. Plus Matthews proved improvement every year in every way.. Cannot say the same for Tyreke.

If OJ Mayo was to leave Dallas, it would be for more money most likely.. And if he is, he's asking for more than 7-9 mil at the least, for long term, I don’t see us making any big contracts, especially not @ SG.

I see us resigning Hickson, because if we don't, we would have to sign someone anyways to fill the backup PF/ role playing C who is moderately decent at the least. So it would have to be proven & would probably want the money we would be giving JJ anyways. Plus JJ seems to thrive in this role we have him in.

I'm not ready to "target" any one in free agency.  It's too early to know what we have now.  Some people will say we have nothing, and be extremely pessimistic.  Other's might say, we have the best starting 5 in the league.  My only issue at this point would be with those that think Wesley shouldn't start, and that we need to replace him in that capasity.

He works as hard as any NBA player I've ever seen work, in game, on offense, on defense, in practice, and all off seasons. His attitude and work ethic are what any coach could ever hope for. He leads by example.  He improves his game significantly every single year.  He does more on the court every single year.  Look at Jamal Charles who for the first time in 14 NBA season, worked on his shot over the summer.  Wesley is a starting caliber 2 guard, and people that don't think so should stop dreaming.

The players who we lose off our roster next year:

-JJ Hickson- Reliable, consistent, improving, great hard working player. Possibility to bring back (4-8 mil)

-Nolan Smith- 3rd PG, likely to trade soon or release. Could bring up Coby Karl from D- League if needed

-Elliot Smith- Still a chance we keep him for cheap & a 1 yr deal.. Decent chance at being a great player

-Luke Babbit- Probably likely to either trade soon or release at the end. Looks comfy riding the pine

Also, we could potentially not have Jared Jeffries & Pavlovic.

No matter who we keep, I think the main part that Olshey's going to do this offseason is gather a bunch of role players who will provide something to this team, not keep players who will just sit on the bench.

I think we could 6th man like Reddick or Maynor to come in, unless we make Wes 6th man and bring in a definite improvement at the SG.. however, Wes is playing very good and looks better every game. I don’t see that happening

    Jarrett Jack is another

Wes vs Minn: 30 points (12-17 and 5-6 from three), 4 steals, and played more minutes than any Blazer with 40.  He's a starter.  I agree we need servicable bench players, and a legit center.  Hibbert would have fit really well, but it doesn't work out sometimes.

Thank you Blazer Fanatic^ !! Came on here to post exactly that about Wes lol. He's awesome, great head on his shoulder, funny guy, good leader, my favorite Blazer in terms of his all around what he brings to this team on & off the court.

As for the legit Center thing, with our cap I just don't see us finding any Centers who are "legit." Centers cost big bucks, with 13 mil and 5 roster spots to fill (those roster spots need to be filled by at least 1 or 2 legit bench players, some of which I mentioned b4). Javale Mcgee is getting friggen 10 mil next year, and I wouldn't have considered him any upgrade at Center. Good C's cost the big bucks. I don't any one we even could go for

Plus I really think Meyers is gonna come around. Don't give up on the 11th rnd pick just yet.. He's still raw but I'm seeing progress in only 10 games. I believe he can get there

I understand people seeing the huge hole in bench scoring, and have seen how a 6th man (harden, terry...) has worked very well to stem gaps in starters resting, but I am not at all a party to jumping on Wes as a 6th man.  It's a demotion.  And we saw how inconsistant he was when he was pushed back and forth last year from starter to bench.  It's tough to ask for consistancy from a player when you don't give them a consistant role or consistant minutes.  Sure he's a Pro, but I'm a realist.  Wes is our starting SG, and there's no reason to look for a replacement.

One thing I do really like about Stotts, is his theory of always keeping 2 starters (or go-to guys) in the game at all times.  It's not like he has much of an option with such a weak bench, but still.  You watch Adelman's substitution pattern tonight with Minn, and you see what I mean.  I don't like it.  On any given night, these guys should be able to play 40 minutes, and when you're hot like Wes was tonight, that 40 minutes sure is a lot easier to log.

I'm not giving up on Meyers by any means.  He just isn't there and he will need more than this season to get there if I'm being realistic.  I still think we need a starting caliber center.  And I'd love to be able to do that next season, AND be able to keep Hickson.  Think where we'd be with a starting center just this season though.  Hibbert would have given the Blazers such a sick starting line up.  I mean, it's pretty decent now, AmIWrong?

I don't think Nolan is ever going to be a productive PG in this league.  We need a guy that can run an offense.  I would have more faith in a kid like Coby Karl to hold a lead for 8-16 minutes a game, and not turn the ball over.  I think Price will pick it up as the season goes on and I like when Stotts plays him with Lillard.  I can just see teams going... WHAT THE H.. !?!?!  when Lillard is free on the wing.

Wes is a warrior, a bounce back guy and one of our 5 guys that can take over a game by pure willpower. I think our starting 5 are untouchable and give them a couple of seasons with some help, we could contend in the west. In my opinion, Wes is the team captain. LaMarcus has that title but Wes is a natural leader. He's everything you want in a balanced player. Unlike many high scoring 2 guards, Wes is a defensive beast!

I also agree that we may still have the 6th man in Elliot Williams. He's young enough to heal up and his athleticism is off the charts. He'll also be pretty cheap come summer. I trust Olshey when it comes to moves and am pretty sure we'll be fine. By summer we'll know more about our bench players and it will become more clear as to who has something to offer worth signing a contract for. At this point JJ is someone I'm sure we'll resign for probably 7.2 mil next season.

I dont agree with signing Tyreke, I dont think he will be worth it. Besides we have a great SG in Wesley who just put up 30. Reddick is not a bad option for cheap and hes someone who can provide crucial bench points. But I see most of the questions being directed towards year year, maybe the blazers should focus on picking up someone now to help them now instead of just making this season about rebuilding Damian is already a top 10 PG and with Batum and Aldridge having all-star years I believe we have a real chance to make the playoffs and get somewhere.

Siccolo, news flash buddy! Elliot Williams doesn't suck. He's just had a bad luck streak with freak injuries. LaMarcus called Elliot the most athletic talented guy he'd played with. That's from the words of an allstar. Elliot played in LaMarcus's charity games and lit it up. Olshey had him primed as the first option off the bench..he's not an old guy who's worn out. He just had an achilles tear...happened to me in high school and I went on to play competitve sports most of my adult life..you might want to rethink your logic here.

Last offseason I really wanted the team to snag Robin Lopez or Chris Kaman, but the front office was too high on Meyers Leonard quickly developing into a starter's talent. Had we signed Lopez to 5M / year, grabbed someone better than Ronnie Price (Ramon Sessions for 3.5M) and THEN re signed Batum and Hickson, this team would be a playoff team. Too much money? Olshey offered double the money for Roy Hibbert anyways...

The trade I'm pushing now to help build the bench is...

Austin Daye and Will Bynum from Detroit

Luke, Elliot, Nolan and a 2013 second round pick from Pavlovic trade

Then bring Dallas Lauderdale back from the Stampedes to complete the 15-man roster.

I'm just a bit tired of seeing Ronnie Price recklessly rush into the mountain of defenders, make a dumb pass and turn it over. Will Bynum's contract expires after this year and so does Daye's. Portland can still go for free agents after the season.

Really the 2 second round picks we have for the coming draft just aren't very good assets anymore, considering how many rookies we already have (potentially including Papanicolaou). They are better used to trade away in my opinion.

I'd rather have Eric Maynor who will be unrestricted and OKC is cash strapped after this season. 13 mil..Eric Maynor and JJ Reddick would be affordable and great bench assets...I like Ronnie Price on the squad. He's missed all of training camp and is just a few games into being healthy. Price is a smart defender, a hustler and with chemistry will limit his turnovers. Some of our turnovers are coming from guys not grabbing the pass or fumbling it out of bounds. Lamarcus has fumbled a few as well as Hickson, Leonard and Jeffries. Turnovers go two ways. Players need minutes to build chemistry on the court and it's going to take our current bench 30 games at least to look like a team.

Maynor would be just about the perfect backup point guard for this team. I'd take a look at Jarrett Jack first since he's able to play the 2, but it would depend on the price tag for either.

    - Kevin Seraphin C

    - Jarett Jack PG

    - JJ. Hickson PF

Approximately we would spend about 12 million so we would still have some cap space.

Hmm I think some people are missing what what need to fix.  Our biggest weakness is defense, and nobody has yet suggested a defensive player. Our 2nd biggest weakness is scoring off the bench.  We should get Andre Iguadola because I think he would be a perfect fit with our starting lineup.  He is a great and underrated defender at the 2 and the 3.  Hes not a big scorer but can be effective and efficient when needed, and is one of the best rebounding and passing 2 gaurds in the league.  Having him in the backcourt would really help open things up for the rest of the starters.  Bringing him in allows us to bring Wesley off the bench as a 6th man OKC version of James Harden type player.  Since Iggy can play the 3 also it allows us to give Wesley more minutes at the 2.
I would then sign Tony Allen to come off the bench defending opposing point guards.  This could work if we also have Wesley and Iggy in at the same time as they could bring the ball up the court, and if not then move him to SG to lockdown the wing while running with Barton who I think could be a better option as 2nd string point gaurd then Price or Smith
I would let JJ HIckson walk and look for a better defensive anchor at post to bring off the bench behind LA and Meyers. Maybe Emeka Okafor or Zaza Pachulia
    PG Lillard-Allen-Barton
    SG Iggy-Matthews-Allen

I like this ^ But i don't think there's any way we put Wes on the bench, he's doing too good. Not to mention Iggy is most likely going to keep his current contract option, rather than test free agency and probably get less than the 16 mil he's up for recieving. Tony Allen would be awesome, so would Okafor if he can be productive.

I think Corey Brewer or Demare Carroll would be better priced options backing up he 3 & 2. That is unless we justkeep Pavlovic under the current contract which wold be more cost efficient

The cap starts this offseason with major impacts on all the teams. Iggy would be an idiot to give up the max deal he's got in Denver and we won't be able to afford him. We could get 3-4 really good bench players for Iggy's salary so I don't see him here. He also isn't making Denver a championship team anymore than he did Philly. We need to resign Hickson and pick up 3 more bench players. Hopefully one is a veteran scorer, one a legit center and one a pt guard allowing us to use power forwards as power forwards behind LA and rotate with Leonard at the 5. Clippers now have one of the deepest benches in the NBA. That's the key to getting deep in the playoffs. I still think Elliot Williams can come back and shore up the 2 spot behind Wes.

Damian-Jarret Jack if he can come cheap.

    Wes-Redick

    Batum-Barton-Demarre Carrol

    Lamarcus-Hickson-Freeland

Mozgov should be easy to get because DEN is in cap next year- Leonard

If we can also keep Jeffries and Price because they are very solid veterans. They can ball to

With our core getting better this roster can be very good. Like Top 5 in west good!

How productive have we ever been in getting guys to come to Portland via free agency? It is a hard sell for most NBA Players. Olshey will be working the trade market hard to pull something off. I am a fan of; Tony Allen, Aaron Brooks, Wilson Chandler, Landry Fields, Francisco Garcia, Andre Iguodala, Jarrett Jack, Kosta Koufas, Carl Landry, Luke Ridnour, JJ Redick, Ronny Turiaf, Anthony Tolliver, Beno Udrih, Chris Wilcox.  I think that any of these players would be serviceable players depending on how the chips fall into place. Who do you like?

I little more far fetched would be someone like Demar DeRozan. However, I did hear on sports talk radio that he was a possibility in a trade to the lakers as Toronto is very high on Lowry and Bargnani. Would have to give up quite a bit and probably involve a 3rd team for this one....

free agents more often than not follow the money. this year is going to be different because of the new cap rules. sometimes free agents will come here for playing time which is where I think we'll find our bench help in the off season.

Hawes will be a hot commodity by the trade deadline, I would think the sixers could find a better offer.

However, I do believe Mo Williams could have somewhat of  a high trade value. Olshey needs to make a deal to get a big man while we...
