I'm not sure what Houston's trying to build. They get a bunch of picks, appearing to start a rebuild. Now they have Lin and Harden? Dealing away Kevin Martin was a good idea for moving forward, but Jeremy Lamb was their best rookie by far. I think they might have shot their rebuild in the foot on this one, especially when they realize that Harden was amazing coming off the bench in OKC's system, but probably won't produce like that for the Rockets.

Don't forget about Royce White.  That dude will be good...as long as the bus isn't late.  LOL.  If I were a Houston fan I might feel a little rectified by this after the wholesaling they did of their club over the offseason.

I wonder if Harden's level of play will carry over w/out 2 future hall of famers above him in the line up.  I DO like that this waters down OKC a little for the purposes of divisional competition.

OKC had no choice after they signed Ibaka to a max deal earlier. Harden had to take a cut or go for his max deal where he'll be the 1st option on a franchise with a direct line to Chinese marketing. Smart business move by Harden but OKC got a flat out scorer in Kevin Martin and great draft picks along with Lamb. I think the trade is a wash..Harden disappeared in the finals when it counted and the new CBA is going to change the way teams do business from now on. I wouldn't pay Harden what he was asking to be a Blazer. No way. The Rockets ties with Jeremy Lin and Yao Ming will line Harden's pockets in a way OKC could never provide. Houston has been swinging for the fences all summer and finally got their franchise guy to pair with Lin. Parity.

Horrible deal for OKC. Martin's a chucker who needs the ball in his hands to be effective. The draft picks are protected. And Lamb just doesn't seem like a big enough piece to get in return for OKC. Glad to see the OKC dynasty got shut down before it even got started!!!

I don't think it was such a bad deal for OKC..they can now resign Maynor who was going to walk if they signed Harden and Martin might be a chucker, but he puts up numbers like Stephon Curry on offense and his contract expires at the end of the season. I think they figured they were not going to match up as well in the West this season as last season. They will also resign Perkins to have somebody to put on Howard. I think the trade makes sense for them and with the new cap rules, they couldn't pay Harden a max deal. Harden also shot like 29% against the Heat. Could go either way but this was probably Harden's last chance to get a big payday. OKC gambled when they signed Ibaka to big money and this is the result.

I think OKC ran away with this one. Sure Harden is a quality player, but I never felt like he was worth the max money he wanted. They basically got a quality rookie and two higher draft picks, which means they won't kill the salary cap like they would have if Harden was signed.

@DHawes Agreed, sure Harden had a shaky playoff performance, but he's young.

Nearly every other top SG in the league right now is aging, he's only 23 and one of 3 who was of the top teSG's last year that was young. His FG % last year was behind only DWade (for SG). Greatly improving every year.

I expect him to do really well in Houston, not to mention I think Houston all around has a really big shot at being a top team in the conference(maybe a future contender). I think OKC will feel the hurt in letting him go, and it will show in their play.

I'm just saying, don't be surprised if Harden makes the All Star team and OKC falls to the 3rd or 4th cede this year!
Plus I don't think Lamb's as good as he was chopped up to be. One first rnd pick is lottery protected in 2013, the other first rnd pick is of the Lakers (soooo the 26th pick in the draft), also in 2013. I think the last thing OKC needs is more late-first round prospects, they are in win NOW mode.

I say GJ Houston, they're showin some cajones.

Calling this a bad trade for anyone is foolish. Harden is a monster and will be an all star this season barring injury. Automatic win for Houston. However, OKC got a nice rookie in Lamb, a guaranteed lottery pick and an additional 1st round pick, plus a large expiring contract which could net even more pieces at the deadline.

This trade showed balls from both organizations and that is something the management of this team is severely lacking.

@ cmeese...agree with you for the most part, but think this feels like a desperate attempt on Houston's part to grab some relevance again and to have something to sell to their fanbase. Believe they overpaid for Harden. I need to see James Harden PLAY the role of top dog before I anoit him. He'll certainly have the opportunity in Houston.

yeah i love harden but his end and houston's end was all about the $... Harden for his absurd paycheck (his argument with okc was essentially over about 1.5mill a year; relative pocket change), and Houston for their franchise promotion and ticket sales... OKC on the other hand made a tough decision and put their future value above their immediate chance at a run against Los Angeles and Miami...

Smart decision making by OKC (but wouldn't go as far as Cmeese and attack our new management due to this example), business as usual for Houston (with a gamble that it will pull them up to relevance like you said), and just simple greed and dollar signs for James Harden.

Just to be clear why i'm bein so harsh on Harden, he hasn't made a single comment in interviews that part of what he wanted from OKC was a more prominent role or anything... he was just arguing over the pride of wanting the word "max" attached to his contract. It's not changing his financial bracket by any either way, just pride and greed to have "it all"...

I'll echo some of what was said above.  Harden is a good player BUT for the kind of $ he wanted... NO thanks.  I would've loved to have had what he brought as a player to OUR Blazers but the way he's handled his contract shows us what kind of person he his; we don't want a guy like that on our team.  Again, he's good but I don't think he'll live up to that $; his scoring should go up a little bc he's going to get more shot attempts BUT his fg% will come down (fatigue will play a part here now AND injuries might b more of a risk now too) some (as mentioned above & I TOTALLY agree w/, he's w/o 2 HOFs to take the heat off of him + Ibaka's a threat too that opponents had to worry about).

I think Blazer's FO didn't make a mistake on this him & they HAVE managed/used resources very well.  Remember (not every1 needs to ;) when u pay a guy that kind of $, once again exists "opportunity cost" w/ respects to what u pay him can't b paid to some1(s) else.  The FO has to b smart w/ $ & get the MOST bang for the $, mission accomplished (made a strong play for Hibbert w/o going overboard didn't work= np; retaining NIco was right bc if he earns contract then we locked him up OR if he ends up overpaid, some1 else will still want him).

Yeah, I agree with commontongue. Offering a big man money like that is a lot different then offering a guard or even a forward that kind of money. Just too few of the quality big fellas left.

You also forgot his 6 rebounds and 4 steals. The dude is a monster simple as that. Say what you want about the price they paid to him or OKC but getting Harden was a stroke of genius if he stays healthy.

@ cmeese47, Blazers could've gone overboard w/ something like an ultra front-loaded contract that Indy couldn't pay (@ the same time this would've crippled us for a few early years) OR this & or doing a sign & trade + some of our players.  The mkt. for a player or anything is determined by what some1 will pay for something (generally, most ppl believe & go by what every1 else does; the few creative/crazy ppl can throw everything out o' wack & then there r no bounds); there's ALWAYS a way to overpay for anything :(

Was ready before and still am lol. Westbrook is junk to me, sure you can match the points he had with kevin martin and stepping up from some other players, but % and presence you can't. As well as the versatility. Goodbye OKC Championship hopes. And I GAURANTEE that much. Remember this post at the end lol

I thought the Celtics got the better end of the Green for Perkins trade when everyone thought Perkins was the final piece to OKC's puzzle. Now Perk is a center who has shaky knees and an awful contract.

And I think the Thunder got hosed on this trade as well. Martin is nothing but an expiring contract and you can't tell me that Jeremy Lamb is the elite-level caliber prospect you get in return for Harden. OKC looks much weaker early on this season and I wouldn't be surprised if they stumble this season. If I was OKC I would have chosen Harden over Ibaka or at least kept James for this season and try to win a title with the Big 3.
