A lot of people in Portland are looking forward to the start of the 2012-13 season, if for no other reason than seeing Damian Lillard run the point. But Trail Blazers fans aren't the only people interested in seeing what the rookie guard has. David Aldridge of NBA.com and TNT lists Lillard as one of the players he "can't wait" to watch:
Just have a feeling that the Blazers' first first-round pick is going to be a pretty dynamic player. He is a rarity in our 500-channel universe: a lottery pick that wasn't on TV five times a week at Weber State. He's going to be as exciting a first-year player as there is.
There's a certain level of mystique surrounding Lillard due to his performance at summer league after being a relative unknown throughout his career at Weber State. That mystique isn't confined to Portland.

We'll see right off the bat just how special Lillard is/can be as he'll have to run through the point-guard gantlet, going up against the likes of Nash, Westbrook, Lin, CP3, and Parker within the first two weeks of the season.

Add me to the list of cant-waiters D22. Im sparked about this kids potential. Im extremely excited to see how he and L.A. mesh. Just the thought of him throwing his first lob to LaMarcus gives me shivers. We've been waiting for someone to come in and make his game easier since Dre' left. But this kid is faster than Dre',a better shooter than Dre' and a better ball handler. Batum is talking a good game. He says he wants to be the number 2 guy behind Aldridge. He had better be working his butt off to get the title of second fiddle. He also said how appreciative he was that we brought in a coach that speaks french.I speak french and it didnt help my game one iota. The only way Batum turns into a stud this year is if he makes the all defensive team. Thats his calling card. That and knocking down threes. I never heard Bruce Bowen or Doug Christie, or Tayshaun Prince whining about no plays being drawn up for them. They knew their role and played their position. Batums game would be a heckuva lot easier if he concentrated on the defensive end. Better ball handling would definitely elevate his chances of being a second option also. If he could, he could grab the board and run the offense. Will barton, if he gets some run will show him how its done. That dude is a gazelle with the rock when he grabs a rebound. STATS have us as the 11th seed in the west. Thats dispicable. They've got Golden State,Phoenix and Utah ahead of us. I never wish bad luck on any team in regards to injury because i know better for one, and two is we Blazer fans know all too well what it is to be bitten by the injury bug. But..... every so-called power house squad in the league is an injury away from contending.OKC cant lose Durant. L.A. cant lose Nash,Kobe,Pao, or Dwight. Clippers cant lose CP3.Denver cant lose Lawson.Spurs cant lose Parker or Duncan. Memphis cant lose anyone. Minn. cant lose love,Rubio,AK47, and or now Roy. We are about due for some good luck. And its coming.

The most exciting thing about Lillard is that it's impossible to quantify or predict what he can do at the next level, but there's SOMETHING about his game that honestly makes me feel like the caliber of defender will not actually do much to stop him. He's too smart and crafty for pressure defense or even double-teams to make him look like your average rookie. (Also, many teams won't have the option of double-teaming him when he runs the P&R with LaMarcus.)

I'm not actually too nervous about the PG gauntlet. Worst case scenario, Dame looks like a rookie his first couple weeks, which isn't that big of a deal considering he's making possibly the biggest leap of all draftees in terms of competition level. Best case scenario, he causes grief for CP3 and the world rubs its eyes in disbelief.

Remember that scene in The Matrix when Keanu Reeves can't jump between two buildings on his first try? That's kinda how I picture the beginning of Lillard's rookie season. If he struggles at first, oh well, it's to be expected. If he blows our minds, sweet.

    DUDE, Pickett that was perfect.

When he first tried to jump between the buildings, he was Keanu Reeves (you can tell when he says "Woah", completely out of character like he's still in Bill & Ted's movies). But later when he's owning fools left and right and dancing on Agent's faces, he is the savior Neo Anderson... so if Damian Lillard is just Weber-State-Lillard at first, so be it. Sooner than later, he'll be putting on his black (and red) suit (and maybe some Matrix glasses?), and showing everyone that HE controls the game and there's nothing they can do about it.

Cmoooon already let's get this started!!!

I'll add to the thumbs up section for D_Pickett w/ the Matrix stuff!  Hahaha!  Brilliant sir! ;)  We've got Neo (aka Lillard) baby!  We can't lose (eventually ;)!  THIS is all perfect bc Lillard is OUR ONE (aka THE One AND he's our pg).  "You mean to tell me, that I can dodge [opponents]?  No [Lillard], when you're ready, u won't have to!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

D_pickett, VERY nice!  Hahaha!  I can't wait to hear u (aka Morpheus) say that ;)  Pickett, if we start calling u Morpheus, I hope we won't have any problems w/ trademark infringement; to avoid this possibility, I for 1 will b spelling ur name Mor[f]eus :p  Haha!

ps b4 u put up the last post, I was gonna start calling u, "the Oracle" BUT I'm glad that u revealed to us that ur actually Morfeus; IMO, this is the cooler way to go & this also keeps the genders synced up appropriately ;)

Good stuff commontongue, that's actually the perfect fit for Olshey + it's natural to corner him into that 1 bc it's an easy transition w/ the "O's," from Olshey to Oracle.  BOOM done deal!  Hahaha!  Now, let's c if he can do more than just bake cookies ;)

Lets hope Stotts is that little kid who teaches Neo to bend the spoon. But wait... the spoon isnt bending.Unfortunately, this little skit of ours will not be without agents. Lets just say Nash is Mr. Smith, and his underlings,Westbrook,CP3,Tony Parker,Lawson,Dragic,Conley,Mo Williams,Steph Curry,Jeremy Lin,Rubio eventually,Collison in Dallas, and who's pushing the rock for New Orleans nowadays. Anyhow you see where im going with this. And i havent even mentioned the east coast pg's. Although Lillards true test on the east will come from Deron Williams,Kyrie,Lowry who's now in Toronto and Derrick Rose. He'll have his best game i think against Brandon Jennings. Teague is a solid pg too. I am looking forward to him just absolutely lighting up Ray Felton.

I'm not gonna get too much into the Felton thing but I tried to support Felton when he was here (I was hoping that in all the negativity form the media & etc. that he might b inspired from the few kind words/belief in him).  It's hard to tell if he was a dough ball who was actually a nice guy but eventually snapped back @ some of the negativity or was he a dough ball who was actually a bad guy who was holding back his REAL self & then finally couldn't contain himself anymore; regardless of which 1 he was/is, these r OUR Blazers & NOBODY messes up OUR Blazers from the outside OR inside!  Even IF he was/is the good dough ball guy, it's inexcusable how badly he messed things up for us last yr; so I'm not gonna feel bad about browbeatin' him from now on; my support for him was a waste.  When he shows up again... it's time to take him down!  So these last words r especially for Felton's ears:  "Felton, YOU AND ur Knicks r weak!  Lillard's gonna take u apart rookie!"

Amen, Simpson. I was down with supporting Felton til very near the end of the season, because, like you said, I hoped that he was a good guy despite coming in out of shape, and that he'd pull himself up and show us the better side of him. At this point though he just seems like another bad-attitude player undeserving of his fame and money, let alone the hopeful adoration of fans. Can't wait to see the Dame school em.

Yeah, I was a big Felton apologist too. I still do think the guys around him could have handled his passes better, and he wasn't the only one out of shape. That said, the dude's shady. I don't think you can stop being locker room poison even if you're in your preferred city. Knicks made a really bad move taking him over Lin (not that I'm a Lin fan).

For what it's worth, report is that Felton showed up to Knicks' camp 20 lbs lighter than he did for us last year... I guess he had really been enjoying that lockout.

Yeah, but less body fat doesn't do a lot to fix attitude in the locker room and mental errors on the court.
