According to Joe Freeman of The Oregonian, former No. 3 overall pick in the 2006 NBA Draft, Adam Morrison will be invited to Trail Blazers Training Camp.
Draft the Stash finally fulfilled: Adam Morrison will be a nonroster invite to training camp.
As a training camp invite, Morrison is not guaranteed a roster spot. Roster is set at 15, tho not all contracts are guaranteed.

The "Stache" cannot deal with the rigors of being a professional. When he left Gonzaga he fell off of a cliff and his production floundered. What do Olshea and Stotts have on their mind. Perhaps they should check out the videos of Adam on youtube and rethink their position.

I concur WB456. Who is this guy and what has he done with Adam the assassasin Morisson i saw torchin cats at Zag and on SportsCenter. This dude used to let em fly, from anywhere, on the move. I always felt a little bad for this kid because he had it and lost it in what seemed like overnight. But everyone deserves a second chance to shine. He's from these parts, so hopefully this NorthWest air restores and replenishes him. Quiet as kept, Babbitt gets an opportunity to scrimage against his own mirror.

This is disgusting we got cap room and Barbosa and Pietrus are still out there yet we get Adam Morrison go back to LA Olshey if you can't do better than this.

Agreed with Cmeese and apparently everyone else on this one, I don't understand why, if we were looking to fill another roster spot, why would we go after a guy who a)has done absolute nothing recently, and b)is going to be filling spots that we've already got strong players at, especially when we just lost a huge part of our guard threat in Elliot Williams.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't he a forward? Like Common said above, he's basically another Babbitt (when he was good), so our SF options will be Batum, Barton, Claver, Babbitt, and then Morrison, and our PF options will be Aldridge, Hickson, Freeland, Jeffries... and Babbitt and Morrison? I'd say either Pietrus or Barbosa would bring far more to the table that we don't have already, and give us a more balanced lineup.

This seems like a really poor decision. I hope this is just a temporary move as we package him for a trade...

    Missing you already, Elliot.

Probably like most NBA fans, when I hear about this guy I cringe. They say he had a great summer league and is more mature but....he's no Elliot Williams or Leandro Barbosa. It is just an invite and I'd actually rather have him than Babbit but this baffles me. He will never be recognized in the city because he looks like a Portland local. Maybe it's to gauge how much growth Barton, Babbit and Smith have. If he outplays any of them in training camp, it'll send a message as to who ends up in Idaho or waived. One thing the guy can do is shoot from anywhere and on the run. Still....I cringe!

This move is insulting to all the Blazer fans everywhere. If we were in tank mode trying to land Shabazz Muhammad or another high pick then welcome but that cannot be the goal. So Olshey you suck right now in my book. Where are the good moves like signing Billups, Evans and Martin guess you left all those in LA and we get Morrison and Batum for 11.5 a year instead of two draft picks and D. Williams.

If I wanted to watch a team suck I would be a Bobcat fan, I expect better and so does the rest of Blazer Nation.

Welcome back Nico :) lets get this season started already

I keep trying to think about the Morrison thing... and I'm still not getting it. Olshey has made such a point of saying he's after players who "move the needle", so how does Adam Morrison fit into that? Has anyone seen his summer league play that is supposedly worth so much redemption for him? Maybe it's all about the loss of Elliot Williams, but if that's the case why didn't we go after another guard like Barbosa instead of another forward like Morrison?

Other than this move, I've been pretty content with what Olshey's done to start us out... so I'm gonna hope that this is just an in-between step in a bigger plan that he's working, but definitely a little worried until I see the results.

Mostly I just want to see BLAZER BASKETBALL again. Can't frickin wait.

Too bad we couldn't of picked up Barbosa... pretty sure money is the biggie and he prob wants a contender if posss... maybe Blazers see something in Nolan that he is ready to step up and be a one two punch a point guard.

ok my last post of the morning i promise.... but looking at that roster... Nic is looking at big time minutes I expect hUGE strides with his expanded roll

If he can play the two guard, it will give even more minutes, I'm curious to see how Stotts is going to use him, I know he will have the the green light behind the arc with Stotts love for threes, but I want to see Nic get out and run and get to the line more.

    stoked what can i say

Nico will have to have made  huge progress with his ball handling in order to see big minutes at the sg position. Creating his own shot will be key if he wants to lock that position down long term.

I know we've talked about Nico sliding over to the 2 before, but I really don't see it happening now simply due to the fact that if he plays as a guard, our 3 suddenly seems EXTREMELY weak and risky... plus it cuts down minutes for our guards who couldn't manage to play as small forward. Doesn't seem like the wisest way to gives us our best 5 players on the floor.

Really pulling for Morrison to make the roster...sorry haters...I gotta admit it.  If nothing else it would add intrigue to the season.  I mean, my panties are not in a bunch about it either way,  we all know this could be very inconsequential.  But....Morrison...NW guy...mustache...Portland.  There's just a certain synergy here that I like.  There will be guys making our roster, that won't have better reasons than this to be there, at the end of training camp.  And...he looked like he could be great at one point in time.  Isn't it worth a try?

I like what you're thinking, Posted. Believe me, I'm not trying to be a hater (I was one of the very few that was holding out for Felton to turn the corner and be a worthwhile player in a Blazer uniform last season, right til the end!), but when I first heard about this it just didn't sit right with me.

I am fully willing to admit, however, that after hearing some more from MB and Wheels and Fans on these boards, I'm open to the idea that Morrison's mustachio'd northwest synergy could be the building blocks for a player that Rip City is gonna love. The next necessary piece is going to be, obviously, to see his shot... but the word is that he had some really impressive Summer League play, and let's not forget, that's all it took for us to get excited about some other Blazer rookies :) on top of that, like you mentioned, Morrison looked like he could be great not that long ago, and since then at the very least he's stacked up some Euro-experience, which has gotta be worth something (again, look at our roster).

I'm all for giving him a chance... here's hoping that he makes the most of it.

WOW, thanks for posting those, Posted (see what I did there?).

After watching those clips, I'm definitely feeling a little less bothered by Morrison taking a spot on our roster. But my worry about roster balance still remains...

At this point, Babbitt still seems like the biggest question mark, especially because those videos show that we could potentially grab the same benefit that Luke brings from someone else, another backup 3/stretch-4, who ALSO would bring the following to the table:

-A quicker shot than Luke (halfway through the first clip, he puts up a 3, on the move, with 3 Celtic's in front of him, 2 of which have hands in his face)
-Better passing than Luke (end of the first clip, on the move nails zips a pass through traffic across the court)
-More confidence/aggression with the ball than Luke (everywhere in both videos)
-MUCH better off-the-ball movement than Luke (everywhere in both videos)

...compared to the latest we've seen from Babbitt, who, to be honest, really didn't seem much improved at all after a summer where he absolutely needed to show noticeable development! Add to that, like we mentioned earlier, that Morrison was thought to have a very high ceiling (better than Luke's?) not too long ago and now has gained experience internationally.

So if I'm wrong, what does Luke bring to the team that Morrison doesn't, other than a slightly higher shot percentage (potentially, if at all)? I'm not trying to be a hater to any of our players, but I'm really not happy with a young guy who has such a narrow range to his game and doesn't seem to have worked on anything new.

Shawn Kemp the original Reign Man

as for Morrison, Babbit, Claver, they are in a 3 way battle for the last game day jersey so I don't think its a big story going into camp... Sasha isn't just going to roll over either in camp, but I gotta think Barton is a lock to make the 12.

Stotts likes the 3 ball.. I don't see any of them backing up at the 4 tho... they all would get killed on D

he has 2 rings. however, he didnt play one game in both finals. as a matter of fact, he only played 2 games in both years playoffs. if you want to go that route, luke walton has 2 rings as well. so does didier ilunga-Mbenga.

Stotts has a ring. More importantly is that he had something to do with the Mavs winning a championship as the offensive coordinator. I would like to see how Morrison works out though. Being back home so to speak in the NW might do wonders for him. The boy can shoot.
