The continued presence of All-Star LaMarcus Aldridge at power forward and, after some free-agent wrangling, Nicolas Batum at small forward allows lottery pick Meyers Leonard the time he needs to develop at center.

Damian Lillard, the No. 6 pick in June, will have the ball in his hands from the beginning and needs to show he can deliver the ball as well as score. Wesley Matthews is trying to take a larger leadership role.

    Defense
They were 26th in shooting defense and will now start two rookies. But the new energy will definitely help, even if it comes with inexperience.

    D

    Bench
While the starting lineup of the future has come into focus, the bench is still undergoing major reconstruction. Four players with one season or less of experience could be in the rotation.

    D+

    Coaching
For all the attention Terry Stotts has received for his work with offenses, the real impact, at least in the beginning, will have to come in chemistry. The new roster has to mesh established players and newcomers.

    Summary

The Trail Blazers definitely have a future. But they also have a past, and the ability of Aldridge, Batum and Matthews in particular to use the bad memories of 2011-12 as a lesson will be a key to moving forward. Dealing in emotion will likewise be important for Batum in dealing with the expectations of the new contract.

Having a new coach, a new general manager and likely two new starters will help underline the storyline of the new day. There will be a lot of losses, probably enough to challenge for the worst record in the conference, but at least there will be hope again.

What it boils down to, is we're not going to receive the benefit of late game goaltending calls once again, because our town is located to close to Seattle.

If our team is not professional or motivated enough to overcome one bad call then trade them all and start over. We are not the Cubs.

I do not think Washington would make the trade proposed by Nuno.  But  it would be nice.  Stay away from Varejao.

As in going to the basket and drawing contact. When he feels like it, god help us all, the man is unstoppable. I love Nico and do not want him to leave at all, but he needs to be more aggressive. Look at Dame. Dude is 6"3 and isn''t afraid to take...

And aren''t you ''sissyfying'' women? We don''t care about the slap, we don''t like what the slap represents. And you can''t have it both ways. (Well I know you can). You want to be true equals to men, take the good and the bad. We don''t dispute ...

Maybe if any of the teams holding one of the top three picks would be interested in #10 plus all of the three second round choices in an effort to add resources.  At least it is worth a shot.  Then  if we could get Oladipo we could go ...

well mccollum looks cool but lillard was a rarity when it comes to small school ballers being successful I don''t see 2 small school ballers 2 drafts in a row especially one comeing from a weak draft being anything spectacular

The house of cards begins.  We will not know which centers become available until we know where some of the other centers land.  Binum, Splitter, Al Jefferson, Dwight Howard.  The only way that Asik becomes available is if Houston land...
