A source with direct knowledge of the talks told ESPN.com's Marc Stein that the Lakers will receive Howard, the Denver Nuggets will get Andre Iguodala, the 76ers will get Andrew Bynum and Jason Richardson, and the Magic will get Arron Afflalo, Al Harrington, Nikola Vucevic and one protected future first-round pick from each of the other three teams. In addition, the Magic will be getting other pieces, including 76ers No. 1 draft pick Moe Harkless, a source told Stein. ESPN.com

not good. this is going to make the lakers really really good.  should only be a few years to endure, though, considering the ages of kobe and nash. another steal for LA. sounds like they gave up bynum and a 1st round pick for howard.  that's a steal. and it looks like this trade will make denver better too. if this trade goes through it will be bad news for the blazers.

Wow, LAKERS the rich get richer, and they keep Gasol.

    Nash/Morris/Blake
    Bryant/Ebanks
    World Peace/Barnes/Eyenga
    Gasol/Jamison/Murphy
    Howard/Sacre

Looks like NBA finals or BUST!

How in the world does Orlando do this trade? They don't even get Bynum, Gasol, Iggy or unprotected picks. This is the type of trade that needs to be revoked by the commish. It's like they gave him away for free. The West now runs through OKC and, once again, Los Angeles. Luckily, this LA team is old, has little to no depth, and is weaker than normal on the wings.

He blocked Chris Paul goig to the Lakers, so we can only hope and pray that he blocks the deal.

Orlando is a breeding ground for superstars.  The DeVoss Faily has the money, but big name players want the big stages, LA & New York.

Lakers salary for the upcoming season is over $99 million. On the plus side, only Nash's contract is on the books after the 2014 season. On the down side, they still have to try to re-sign Dwight Howard next offseason and Kobe Bryant the year after that. This team is talented, no doubt about it. BUT, the pressure is going to be insane. With a payroll that high it will really be title or bust. Just making the Finals won't validate spending that much money. Also, there is no Phil Jackson to stroke egos this time around, And finally, this isn't the first time the Lakers tried a super team. They broke down in 04 with Malone and Payton, so they could do it again.

Afflalo at 7.5 million is a steal considering how much we are paying Batum. Do not forget he is still a quality defender and he shot 40% from three last year pretty nice pick up for 7.5 million I would say. 5 total draft picks, including 3 firsts, a stud in Afflalo, an excellent veteran in Harrington, two young pieces in Vucelic and Harkless and cap flexibility is better than overpaying Humpries and Lopez or gambling that Bynum will resign. Best way to get good again is cap space and lottery picks they have that potential now.

While you can spend as much as you want on talent, money cant buy cohesion. Keep in mind that L.A. did this same kind of thing when they acquired Malone and Payton, and they went nowhere. Two Bad backs, Gasoft, and a partridge in a pear tree. Nash has to deal with Lillard,Westbrook,CP3,Linsanity,Mo Williams,Steph Curry,Conley,Parker,Rubio,Dragic, night after night. And thats just at the pg spot. At the sg, theyve got Kobe. At the 3, they have Metta World Nuts. At the 4 and 5 they have Gasoft & Howard. We have Claver who at 6'10 and knows Gasoft can probably give us some minutes,JJ who doesnt care who you are,L.A. who can guard Gasoft. Hell Batum hates Spaniards. At 5,We've got Jeffries,Leonard and Freeland who held his own against both Gasol brothers and Ibaka. Im not afraid of the Lakers whatsoever. Im hoping we tear their heads off on opening night.Go Rip City !!!!

Common normally I respect your opinions but that is blatant fan boyism at its worst. Dwight Howard is an absolute monster down low. He will be motivated this year and we should see the aggressive multiple defensive player of the year return. Howard averages 10 fts per game against an aggressive rookie like Leonard he will get him in very quick foul trouble. Freeland will have a little more success but he is not strong enough to stop Howard. Say what you want but Aldridge cannot guard Gasol. World Peace hurts the Blazers because he destroy Batum down low, if he is in a three point shooting mood we will be fine if not we will struggle. Nash will struggle against Lillard but Howard and Gasol will prevent penetration meaning we are going to have to settle for mid range to long jumpers. Kobe and World Peace are more than enough to handle Batum and Matthews.

We will struggle for rebounds, and struggle to stop their offense which will be run smooth with Nash at the PG.

And when do you think these guys will get a rest ? Never. Howards a punk mentally, with the disposition of a whining school girl. I dont want to play here. I dont want to play there. Im only going to play for Brooklyn. But now he's in LA, and is happy about it. Dwight isnt invincible. And while he's a force to be reckoned with, he's still a cheeseburger short of a happy meal. Artest is a step slow and resorts to stupidity to make up for his lack of mobility. Pao disappears for stretches. And... if Howard isnt or wasnt lying about his back, ask Nash and Miamis Mike Miller about back problems. They'll be laying on the floor side by side during time outs. I have no respect for whiners, and im willing to be that LA's coach doesnt either. He's going to have them all walking on egg shells wondering if hes going to give Mitch an ultimatum about who they should keep or let go. He's a cancer. A black eye in the game. The way to beat LA is with hunger. The question is are we hungry enough. For the record im not concerned with who trades for whom. All im concerned with is who we have. OKC is going to give them a run for their money. The Clippers also. We will too. The Lakers have five stars in their line up, true enough. The problem... theres just one ball.

Yeah good thing Dwight wont play us opening night. Which means they have NO CENTER muahaha lol. I guessing Gasoft or Hill will play C. Which means LA, Freeland, and JJ should have a field day. THere bench will consist of Meeks, Jamison, and Blake. We have Elliot, JJ, Nolan, Meyers, Claver/Jeffries. So obviously we have bench scoring in our favor. We will see how Lillard will do. Nash is not the greatest defender and LA would not have much inside D so I would expect Lillard to have a 16-20pt  5-6ast game. This is asking a lot for a first game but after Lillard said he can take Nash , Those numbers are not too our of reach. I really think we have the chance the shock the world and beat the favorites to win the championship on opening night. We will see.

    GO BLAZERS!!!

With Nash at pg the distribution of the ball to potential scorers will be something to behold.  I think the only chance we have to beat the Lakers is when the second unit comes in.  I think our second unit can beat their second unit.    I afso think Denver will surprise a lot of teams.  Portland is going to fight with Utah for the last playoff spot.  This should be exciting to watch.

Dwight Howard, when asked about his surgically-repaired back that reportedly may force him to miss part of the beginning of next season, doesn't sound too confident that he'll be ready at the start of the season. He tells reporters in Los Angeles: "My health is great. I'm getting a lot better, a lot stronger every day. I'm looking forward to the doctor saying you're free to play. I can't wait for that day... There’s no timetable right now. Whenever he says ’Dwight, you’re free to play,’ then I’ll get back on the court. Until then, I’m going to continue to rehab and get my back stronger

Hawes and Common touched on the Malone/Payton bust, but when I first heard of this deal, it reminded me of something even further back.  Undeniable parallels between the Lakers post DHo deal and the Lake show following the acquisition of Diesel.  The difference this time around, as has been mentioned...No Phil Jackson to coordinate group hugs.  The obvious rift on paper looks to be Kobe and Howard, but a deeper look has me questioning the Gasol/Howard relationship.  Nash and his maturity are very much out of place on this roster.  Will his on-the-court Phil-like presence be enough?  We'll see.
From an Xs and Os standpoint, Howard and Shaq are similar too.  Power game with little finess, huge ego, and poor free-throw shooting particularly down the stretch of close contests.  Time to Hack-a-Ho (DHo).
As far as addressing the depth question...while on paper the Lakers don't look to be deep, how deep do they have to be?  Nash and Kobe won't have to log big minutes until postseason time.  Would guess a certain coach may be currently in the process of ripping some pages out of coach Pop's book.

im pretty sick of the lakers buying championships but it makes it that much sweeter when you beat them and they are expected to win. I hope they crumble under the pressure, I know kobe is up to the task but i hope his age catches up to him. I think gasol will be less effective this year if they do something about flopping. I say we just pound them opening night, put your feet on the gas and don't let up. I'd love to see the blazers start moving without the ball and placing beautiful passes, no more camping at the 3point line should be this years motto. im sick of watching iso ball, i hope stotts comes in with an exciting offensive scheme and everyone buys in.

A team that can shoot the ball can beat anyone. They can also lose to anyone.

Stotts has been quoted more than once  how he wants the Blazers to shoot 3s, and lots of them. He also says he wants to see them run. If he can successfully implement both then he is a genius, we shall see.
I'm with ya on the no camping on the 3 line. Nothing frustrates me more when one guy dribbles around while the other 4 are spectators, and if the dribbler somehow doesn't turn the ball over before the shot clock hits 1, is lucky enough to get an ugly attempt at a 3.

it's so elementary i can't believe we have coaches like nate playing iso ball. i can see it for short stretches where you need a kobe or b-roy to take over a came, but all game? even at the gym i tell guys to cut and we win, it's just so fundamental, move on offense and you're going to get an easy bucket. I don't mind a 3 if someone drives in to collapse defense and you have a shooter like batum or babbit poping out form a pick to catch a wide open jumper, but dont stand there with your thumb up your butt.

problem, there rotation is good enough to keep starters in the game, rotating kobe and nash out for blake and barnes, and then kobe in for mwp..... they can always keep a good permiter player in, and jamison isnt done, he will give gasaul good breaks,  and i actually think he may be in the top 10 for 6th man of the yr, i also believe its a very fair trade howard for bynum  is basically talent one for tallent two center. I believe Miami vs Lakers will be the match up in the finals and the only teams that can put there word in is okc and SA.....I think its sad to see the NBA boil down to 4 teams...

Well Kobe cant play over 32 mins and Nash definitely cant play over 30. So If Blake gets into foul trouble or if Meeks does this can hurt LAs second unit. Also they have a weak SF rotation with no sign of bringing Barnes back, akk they got is MWP and Earl Clark and Ebanks

Interesting you claim Kobe can't play more than 32 mins considering he has not played less than since his second season in the NBA. Or that Nash cannot play over 30 since he has been doing it quite well for the past 10+ seasons.

With Jordan Hill, Antwan Jamison, and the likely signing of Leandro Barbosa will give them some quality depth.

Well they are both in there mid to late 30s. I think this is the year when age hits Nash and Kobe.  Well last time Kobe had a decent pack-up SG (Shannon Brown) he played 33 mins a game. Now he is two years older and has Jodie Meeks. I cant see Barbosa signing after they signed a younger SG in Meek. To be honest with you I said what I said because I heard Brian Wheeler and Mychal Thompson talking about similar minutes for Kobe & Nash on Courtside today hahah.

I think the Lakers would love to see those minutes but I do not see Kobe or Nash willing to rest unless the game is 15 points or more in their favor. If LA does get Barbosa then you might be right about Kobe's minutes if not look for at least 36 a night.

Yah cause our run and jack up three pointer offense that Stotts wants is so conducive for Playoff success isn't that right Phoenix how many titles did it win you? Zero you say. How many titles were won with dominant post play? At least 30 you say Bill Russel. Some how I just do not like our chances there.

Agreed I do notlike our chances either.  They only way that the Lakers  do not make it is if both Kobe and Hash get heart.  I am OK with that.  Comment about buying championships we  tried and we did not have a strong enough coach (Adelman) to reign in the players and set Team Ethic Standards.  Instead we got a lot of guys going to jail or smoking dope.

2 years ago Kobe would have ripped OKC apart in the final minutes. I would say that age has caught up with him. Not sure what happened to Gasol I always thought he was a whiney Fluff anyways. They brought in Howard to take over the team when Kobe leaves and maybe one last shot for Kobe and Nash. As much as I dislike the Lakers I would be ok with Nash getting a ring.

Arron is nice (15 ppg) but not for 4 years $30 mill. Did we overpay for Batum? Yes, but he still has room to grow. I think what we saw from AA last year is about as good as it gets for him. Harrington was a good sixth man but I don't see any reason why Wilson Chandler can't fill that void off the bench.

You do know that those picks are heavily protected too, right? Even some of the second round picks Orlando picked up are protected! One of the worst hauls in history for a team dealing away a Top 5 player in the NBA.

The Philly pick is lottery protected in 2015 and 2016 top 11 protected in 2017 and top 8 protected in 2018.
Denver pick is not protected but is conditional Orlando gets the lower of Denver, New York pick. If both miss the playoffs this could end up a high lottery pick not likely but possible.
Lakers 2017 pick is top 5 protected 2018 top five protected and 2019 is unprotected
Lakers 2015 pick is top 10 protected in the second round
2013 second round pick will come unprotected from Golden State

If I was Orlando I would have demanded 2013 picks from Denver and Philly. This team needs a lot of help now not in 3-5 years.

Orlando just set their franchise back a decade. If they don't win the lottery in any of the coming years, that team could be in a world of hurt.

Also, I completely forgot that Denver has Jordan Hamilton laying in the wings, who is a stud in the making in my opinion so losing Harrington and AA will be minimized.

Of all the guys we picked up, im most excited about JJ. If he brings it like he did last year for a full season, i like our sleepr chances. Of course Leonards quick  development would be a bonus.

At one point in the last clip of that highlight common, Hicky's right ear is clearly over the cylinder while his right arm, fully extended, securely craddles the rock.  I don't care who you are, you're not gonna block that without immediately needing xrays.  I love Hicky's game too, but am mindful of the small sample we've had to this point and still concerned as to why the man can't land a long term deal.  As I've written on our boards in the past, first CLE then SAC...and now POR.  He has played beastly in CLE and with his short stint here in stumptown, so...what DON'T we know?

I would imagine it has to do with situation, find him a spot and team he is comfortable on he thrives, otherwise you get Sacramento.

Sickening that this deal keeps getting even better for the Lakers.  Bynum has reportedly planned a trip to Germany for plasma rich injections on one or both knees next month.

He has had surgery on both already though, and to what degree his trip to Germany is prevention vs. treatment we may never know.

We will struggle for rebounds, and struggle to stop their offense which will be run smooth with Nash at the PG.

aldetidge can gaurd gasol and howard might not be ready to play when the season starts

Hawes will be a hot commodity by the trade deadline, I would think the sixers could find a better offer.

However, I do believe Mo Williams could have somewhat of  a high trade value. Olshey needs to make a deal to get a big man while we...
