    WOW on the Talkin Ball that Mike Barrett hosted this week, they had 2 or 3 moments where they openly RIPPED Dwight Jaynes! When I heard the first one I laughed a bit, thought "Oh Chris Haynes, you just got yourself in trouble" but then in the next segment Chad(?) gets in a good jab with something like "...then you're just a loudmouth with no game, just like Dwight Jaynes!" HAHAHAHA I love it. When did it become open season on the Godfather? And if we're all this sick of him (and Canzano), why is he even still here?!?

    Also, can we have Mike Barrett host ALL the Talkin Ball episodes? Abby Chin doesn't know enough basketball to be a basketball host... I don't know why but she just never seems to be sincere about what she's saying... it's mind-boggling!

    Yeah don't know why it posted two as soon as i wrote it... i have a quirky mouse though that double-clicks sometimes so maybe it beat the speed of the site :P

    Anyway, does anyone know about some behind-the-scenes drama that is making other commenators FINALLY speak out against Dwight Jaynes? It makes me happy but I'd like to know where it's coming from... maybe Paul Allen finally is sick of Dwight starting rumors about PA selling the team? Maybe someone finally realized he's not a loveable color commentator like Mike Rice, but more of just a crotchety old-timer with nothing constructive to say?

    I watch Talkin' Ball for Tone (who's almost as arrogant and dismissive as godfather, but at least he has the credentials for it) and I love it when Ian Karmel (spelling?) is on.

    I think Dwight is just known around the staff as a hot-air balloon. He's probably liked, but he's also that guy at work that opens his mouth and everyone's eyes roll. I actually think he's a funny media personality, I just don't think he should be on a panel talk show, since he shuts down everyone else's opinions.

    Abby is nice enough. She's fine as the one who reads the discussion prompts, but it's nice to have someone like an M.B. to participate in the discussion once it gets started. She strikes me as someone who dated a basketball player for a while, and now watches it without understanding the game 100%. Like I said, she's great on camera and asking springboard questions, but she's not a basketball mind so something is lost there.

    Yeah I love Ian Karmel, he kinda brings the "fan" flavor, and I've actually been impressed at some of his points, he knows more about basketball and the Blazers than I had first realized. Apparently my girlfriend went to school with him meaning he's a long-time Portlander so I guess it makes sense.

    I'm definitely a fan of Harvey, Haynes, Barrett and a few others, and I get what you're saying about Dwight not belonging on a panel show because he kills discussions... but he also parallels Canzano in that he's an unabashed rumor-mill!

    Watch some of the footage of Paul Allen glaring at him about the "selling the team" rumors after this last season; as Allen openly denies it vocally and for all to hear, while staring at Dwight saying sarcastically "I have NO IDEA where this rumor is coming from", Dwight doesn't skip a beat before saying "My sources are very credible I'm not gonna say who but if you want to come on my show and talk about it..."

    I hate that! It reminds me of all the melodrama from Batum's agent: Sure, it's not illegal and they're just trying to drum up business (for themselves at the cost of others), but it's immoral and disrespectful. Of all the journalists in the Portland scene, the "godfather", the guy who's image is the old-schooler that's seen everything, should be the LAST guy being disrespectul and classless.

    But hey, I guess he's not alone in Portland. Dwight Jaynes, Jon Canzano, Bouna Ndiaye, and a few other gasbags are working hard to keep less-than-tasteful practices alive.

    And you nailed it about Abby Chin! I'm not lumping her in to the same problematic class as the guys above, but I do still see her as a weak point in a show that could be alot better. I just don't think it's that rare to find an attractive woman who can speak well on camera and read the discussion cues... finding one who could do those things AND has a bit of a mind for the subject matter shouldn't be that hard, especially in Portland and being about the Blazers lol.

    At the very least, they should try letting Ian Karmel host the show (comedian hosts are extremely successful in this market), and relegate Abby to someone that they can jump over to when changing discussions, or someone who could get some fan interview footage for each episode... wait, I actually like that idea alot! She could handle that; a scripted question to go and ask Portlanders on the street, she'd still get to look good on camera and do the same things she's doing, but she wouldn't look so lost compared to the guests on her show (lol). Move it away from the Rose Garden, get her downtown somewhere, because people would gravitate to a camera with her in front of it, AND it would spread promotion for Talkin' Ball :)

    Cmon, tell me that wouldn't DRASTICALLY improve the show and bring it back to former glories!
