Neil Olshey has done a pretty good job all considering being thrown in right before the draft and in the month or so he has been here. Plus the fact he has had some hurdles that he had to go through with the Nicolas Batam Saga and the Roy Hibbert situation. But Batam is a great asset to this team. I would love the Blazers to bring in Brandon Roy back after next season which they could do and go after another veteran center and point guard, so those two could mentor our young talent and teach them in the future. But with those pieces Portland would be great. Including if we could steal Kevin Love after next season from Minnesota. Neil has tried hard to get young talent on this roster so that a new and hopefully younger coach can build with. I pray to God thats not Kaleb Canales. So As far as Phil Jackson is concerned. People close to Phil are reporting that Phil wants a front office job with Portland that includes a lot of respondsibility such as the President of the Blazers and with other important roles that include helping find and select a new coach. Who might be Brian Shaw as the next Blazer Head coach who is connected to Jackson from LA. Even a Mike Malone would be a great asset on the Bench too.

Not a big fan of Phil as a coach I believe I have made that point known a time or 4 so I will not go into it. He does have a good eye for talent and situations I think he would make a good prez. Neil I think will be a good GM we wanted Hibbert we went after Hibbert unfortunately for us Indiana weighed the options and could not part with him due to the Howard fiasco, again, and we got the bad end. We drafted well and we kept Batum this he said he would do. He is forthcoming to the press, He lets the fans know as soon as he can and is open on when he can release more info. Not something that this organization has been good about in the past. I think we will see more trades at the end of the deadline while he and the new coach evaluate what we have. So far I like what I have seen this off season I think we did well.

I had hoped we would have made the sign and trade for Williams and 3 first rounders then made an offer to Mcgee 4 years 40 million or so.

What I like about Neil is that you can tell that he's passionite about getting this team on the right path and like commontongue said he's a man of his word it's still early but, he's off to a decent start keep t up Neil.

    I'm not saying I don't like Olshey,
but resigning Hickson, matching an offer for Batum, trading Felton and Thomas for I can't remember what, bringing 2 foreign players over that were coming over this year anyway, drafting the 2 players Paul Allen made clear he wanted even before Olshey was here, the failed attempt at getting Hibbert, and the big free agent signing of Ronnie Price just doesn't impress me all that much. I mean anyone could have pulled all that off.
Not saying he will not be any good, I think he just might be, just do not understand how everyone is raving how great he has been for this team so far.

can't judge olshey from indy matching the offer to hibbert. just by making the offer he made a bold statement that the blazers are ready to win now. of course he did what anyone could have but his job is to make to right move and he just happened to make the easy ones so far. im not high on the felton trade but it seems we got something for nothing so that's kind of a plus. i mean, it's not bad. i think olshey will really prove his worth by what he can get in a trade but as for right now he's simply filling the roster and that's a start.

He didn't just resign Hickson, he played it smart by waiting instead of giving him the qualifying offer, and he got Hickson to come back cheeeeeap.

His task wasn't simply to match Batum's offer, it was the entire process of dealing with the slimeball agent and playing poker against Minnesota's front office, trying to get best value. In the end he stuck to his guns, and came out on top as far as we can so far tell.

What we traded Felton and Thomas for: ANYTHING. The other option: Felton walks and we get nothing, and we decide whether or not to spend another vet minimum on Thomas and the off-chance that he'll get a good block and somehow become a vocal inspiration for the youth? I'd rather hope for that in a vet like Jeffries... when the trade was first announced it was just Jeffries and Gadzuric, then became Jeffries, Gadzuric, the two euro players, and I THINK what it ended up being is those 4 players, some pick in a few years, AND cash considerations? Even if the pick isn't true, that's still what we got for Felton, after his controversial last season, and the oldest player in the league. (GREAT job. Period)

Sure, maybe Freeland and Claver would be coming here soon anyway. On the other hand, you can't say the draft picks were easy to get just because that's what Allen may have said he wanted; it's still the draft, where every team has needs and there were multiple options for us to pursue. Also, Barton is being considered one of the best steals outside the first round.

He didn't fail at Hibbert, he made a great attempt and made Indy pay max dollar. Strategically was very sound. And Ronnie Price, a vet pg like people on here keep saying we need to lead our 2 young guns, he got for the vet minimum.

Yes, any GM can make these moves. Any GM can make just about any move, there's hardly any moves that rely on one specific GM's exclusive connections or ability to out-deal another professional GM. Just sayin, balance your scale a little bit... What Olshey has done is get all this line up, below the cap space, with very little preparation, and as mentioned above, I think he's shown a better ability to relate to the public than most GM's I can remember here, which seems like it would be a pretty beneficial skill in the city who claims to have the most rabid fanbase... but I don't think he's done yet either. He's not playing this step by step, I believe he's got a game plan and is just lining up the pieces. In my opinion, I'd love to see Jackson come in as Prez, and let them pick a coach together that will develop our young talent (the oldest guy on our team is under 30 now) and turn this team around.

    Go Olshey and GO BLAZERS.

Just because a GM could make the changes Olshey made does not mean other GM's would make the moves.  I kind of like the setting up of the team so we can compete.  The only position i am worried about is at center.  Prz come out with a bang.  I also do not believe Olshey is done.  Look for a move just before the trade deadline ends.

Agreed. I do not think he is done, yes he could have traded and got picks and traded picks and been willy-nilly all over the place and we could have had a team that was completly differant from last year and spent every last dime of our salary cap just because he could . What he did do is retain a solid core. The losing out on Hibbert may be a blessing in disguise. We picked up what seems to be some very interesting draft picks ( beats head on desk to knock on wood). He may be evaluating what he does have instead of trading for whay might seem to be better. Remember E.Will was starting to get minutes from Nate of all people before the freak season ending injury,Nolan came out of nowhere this summer league. This is not fantasy basketball these are real people. The differance is that real people can improve and decline at any given moment and there are real personality issues and salary caps and eccentric owners and in fantasy basketball you dont have to worry about these things. So I think he may be doing it right by sort of standing pat. As for the Felton trade I thought we were going to get a fat dancer for him but to my suprise we actually got quite a bit. I think it was because they could not afford Lin good luck sleeping at night with that deal.

I think we are going to waive Pavlovic and then use any available cap space to land a center if there is one that remains available.  Okay, who is available?  Prz, I like him teaching Leonard how to box out under the boards.  I think Mcgee is taken, Asic is taken, Lopez's are taken, so who is left that can improve our team.  Maybe we should have kept Thabeet but I think he is taken also.  Who would be available under a sign and trade and who would we let go.  All good questions.

Make a few trades and clear space for signing Przybilla for 1 year. I am glad to have Hickson back but I think Olshey should have signed Hickson to a 3 year deal or at the very least 2 years. I also think we should have signed Thabeet to a 1-2 year new, cheap contract. I think he has a lot of untapped talent although that would have meant leaving Freeland overseas and signing Przybilla as a mentor to Leonard and Thabeet . I think without a trade, Przybilla is our 1st, best option at starting center.

I have a post in "Diebler rights traded" where I look at the current roster of 16 or 17 players.  If we are talking sign and trade to clear space who are we going to trade?  Or who are we going to waive?  Gadzuric and Pavlovic are the most logical to waive in my opinion.

Thabeet is at OKC I believe. If we do sign Pryz I think he will probably start for the first few games depending on how Freeland plays than he will probably end up in a suit for most of the season, I believe that Meyers will get alot of minutes.

However, I do believe Mo Williams could have somewhat of  a high trade value. Olshey needs to make a deal to get a big man while we...
