Okay I am officially pissed off now.  We passed up 3 first round picks I do not care what level protection they had to pay Batum 11.6 million a season and not be able to trade him cause of his 15% trade kicker. I was almost willing to accept that until Sacramento landed James Johnson for a future second round pick.

Johnson's rebounding numbers, steals, and blocks we all higher than Batum's last year despite playing 5 mins less per game. Johnson's PPP against were better than Batum's, his opponents EFG% allowed was 47% overall 45% while playing SF. In comparison to Batum's 52% allowed. So we passed up what the numbers suggest is a better overall defender making 2.8 million dollars and 3 first round picks to pay Batum 11.6 million a season.

Portland's latest acquisition Jared Jeffries will be making 3.1 million next year. Johnson 2.8 million SF starter also capable of playing PF. Or Jeffries 3.1 million to ride pine.

This totally destroys all the good will you earned signing JJ for 4 million, Freeland for 3 and Claver for 1.3.

Please someone explain to me how Batum and a future second round pick is worth more than James Johnson, 3 first round picks and 12 million in extra cap space next season.

is batum worth 3 martel websters? no 3 websters are worth more. but it does not mean we want three websters

Webster could not land a first round pick at this stage of his career. So the best 3 Websters could land are 3 late second round picks.Which suggests one Batum is worth more than 3 Websters.

But we are not talking about 3 Websters we are talking about a quality starting SF in Johnson, 3 first round picks and the ability to make a max offer to someone like James Harden or the ability to sign someone like Al Jefferson or Josh Smith that you also lose having Batum on the books.

There could still be a sign and trade as long as Portland, Minnesota, and Batum all agree to it. So I won't hammer Olshey yet, but things aren't lookin to good as far as his decisions in my opinion.

And Minnesota has made it clear that they are still interested in a sign and trade, even with the offer sheet already in motion.

I think Olshey went for too much and got aced out.  However, there are sources that said all of the sign and trade pieces offered by Min were bad trades for Portland.  While it is true they offered some firsts and some other players they did not offer them as a package and there were strings attached to each of them.  It is true Min wanted Batum but they were unwilling to offer anything of value to make the trade happen.  For some reason the media seems to want to characterize the Min offer as several firsts plus D. Williams or Pekovic.  This was not the offer on the table.  I think if Min would have offered D. Williams plus a first the trade would have happened.

I think Allen likes Batum and does not want to trade him so Olshey might not have had an option in this case.

it was a good decision to retain batum.  considering his age and upside, and lack of talent elsewhere at his position, i don't think it would have been wise to let him go.  the chances of getting a player of higher caliber through a draft pick or trade or FA are all very low. i don't really care what the numbers or statistics say necessarily. one look at the natural ability of nic out there on the court is enough for me to understand this.  regardless of the numbers there is no comparison between johnson and batum. none at all. this will be confirmed in a couple years.

Last I heard Olshey was going to address Batum on Wednesday. I know the offer sheet was signed for the Wolves yesterday. I am not a big fan of Batum but I am also leery of trading him for 3 draft picks that could turn out to be Oden,Larue Martin and Sam Bowie. One thing he does have in his favor. We know him and if he ghosts abit much this season he can be traded. When we drafted Lillard instead of Barnes I knew we were going to keep him.So I would not get too excited about not making a deal for him. Lets see what he does this year than we can beat him up some more and take Olshey out back and beat the crap out of him.

Barnett who is going to trade for Batum when he will make 13.4 million a year that makes getting a deal done pretty tough.

Officially turned down Derrick Williams and 2 first round picks. Speculation Olshey told Sloan that and that is why he declined the job.

just an fyi, the little tidbit on jeffries contract is wrong. and he can play Center, a position where we need depth. and the knicks are paying a little over 1 mil for his contract this year. i really don't see any way that you can be complaining about a sign and trade deal that could have never happened, felton could have just left and signed anywhere and we not get anything.

Not disappointed getting something for Felton was annoyed with the rumored 3.1 million contract for Jefferies then the whole details came out and we did we getting European players, cash and a pick.

James Johnson is a good player but the world moves on

The Felton sign and trade turned out quite well, Kostas Papanikolaou is the best young player in Europe.

Meese, I officially share your frustration. We needed a back up PG and had money to spend before the 9pm PST Batum deadline, and we used the change in the ashtray for a scrub Google had trouble recognizing. I am still confident in there being a long-term plan...what about the short-term? How will PA compensate for dipping ticket sales? Can anyone say $15 Coke, $20 beer, and $30 to park?

Im pissed the Blazers didnt accept a straight up Derrick Williams for Batum deal, which was also supposedly offered by the Timberwolves.  Williams has more potential than Batum, can gaurd larger players more effectively and costs much less money since he is still on his rookie contract.  Still it is what it is, and the Blazers have a really nice young core in Lillard, Matthews, Batum, Aldridge, Leonard and JJ Hickson off the bench.  Im excited about Claver and Freeland too, from what I've read/seen of them they look nice.
I am a fan of the Blazers draft selections. Feels good to finally be able to say that

Cransford if your mad we did not do Williams for Batum straight up then you are going to be really mad when the real offer was actually D. Williams and 2 first round picks.

Henson will be solid down the road but his ceiling is more like Taj Gibson. He is a great role player but not elite like Sanders and Ibaka could be if people were not so willing to shoot on him.
