Is Joel Freeland (if playing as 5 instead of stretch four capable? )

I've watched Joel few times in ACB Spanish League and also on Eurobasket in Lithuania and to me is one of the top skillfulled big man in Europe. He reminds me a little bit of laMarcus himself, Got some nice post up moves , quiet good footwork, nice touch & range + can also hit 3's. And he's explosive under the rime, he dunks quickly, do not hesitate if comes to contact - I think he WILL be a good addition to our roster but still not sure ...as a center because he needs to gain up some muscles a bit and what;s more importand change his mind set from being usually a Face-up guy down low

    Maybe Lillard ?

I'm a fan of his talent and willingness to improve and became an important factor in the paint. I admire his entire skillset he has but at the moment I don;t see him as a consistent player and I thinks his minutes will be limited this season, hovewer I consider him as a important part of our future, I already gave him a "credit of trust" and believe he might be an impact one day

    Joel Przyzbilla?

Is it worthy to keep "The Thrilla" in our roster ,and sacrifice his lack of production in exchange for being a menthor ?

Hickson and lamarcus could be an effective 4&5

Putting LA on 5 would waste his potential , mainly as a mid-range threat(stretch 4)

Center by committee of Hickson, Freeland and Leonard... Is Kurt Thomas still in the mix?

I think we should start Hickson if we stay pat... LMA and Hickson is capable... Leonard and Freeland are wildcards

Brendan Haywood could be a good addition. Hes big,has championship experience, and could be a good tool to help toughen up Leonard.

freeland's a bit too artsy fartsy for me. i'd like to see more of a power center join the starting 5. and i think we've got a good one.

i would not be surprised if we end up starting two rookies this year.  meyers leonard is pretty dang good.  i didn't watch many of his college games but i saw a replay game against minnesota last season and he looked like david robinson out there.  i'm real impressed with his skill set even though he's criticized for being raw.  he is over 7 feet tall, a legitimate NBA center size, high motor, good shooting touch, underrated shot blocker and rebounder, above average post moves, and elite big man athleticism.  he's an enforcer and doesn't take crap from anybody, just dishes it out with mean picks. i mean, i'm almost as excited about this guy as i am lillard.  the one thing i noticed watching him though was his kind of erratic emotional episodes.  he seemed to be overly hard on his teammates often times gesturing and yelling appearing somewhat out of control.  i think he will mature and learn to control his emotions though.  off the court he seems like a very bright well spoken kid and that is a very good sign.  i'm excited about this guy.

By taking Haywood we will make step backward. We cannot limit too much our new bigs just to have Haywood playing instead. He doesn't look useful in our rotation despite being a champion. That would be acceptable only if higher ranking player was signed.(McGee?)

We should make a serious run at Luis Scola, both he and LA can play the 5 but are really prototypical stretch-4's. The 5 would work as a "platoon" in this scenario with LA and Scola sharing the brunt of 5 duties and Leonard picking up the rest.  Hickson has shown he can play the 5, but I'd really rather see him transition into a high-energy 6-man to give our bench some firepower.  We still have cap space to make a really competitive offer for the Argentinian big-man.  LA could also learn a lot from the veteran PF.

Definitely a big NOOOOOO to Scola, not a Portland-type player!

Do what Nate never did and let the young guy play. If we don't get a big time center then start Meyers.

Scola is very, very crafty player  and I have huge respect for his low-post abilities but like a @Blazer247 I think he simply doesn't fit to us because his lack of acceleration and explosivness, face-up player and I'm not sure his unique sklilks are highly demanded for us plus we don't need PF's anymore. I hope Gadzuric will be waived and Jeffries won't play much and they won't be considered as options. We should try to look for unsettled guys : Blair, Kanter  and hope Olshey don't get into guys like  Vareajo , Biedrins , Haywood (just sighend w/ Bobcats) , R.Lopez .The guys worthy strong push for a trade are Hibbert, Horford and Cousins

with all this hickson, LMA, freeland, scola talk about the center position, is anybody convinced that Leonard is probably our best C right now after watching the first summer league game?  the guy looked like a top 5 pick last night and looks way better than drummond.  i was before and am even more now a big meyers leonard fan.  looked like dwight howard with a touch out there last night. mid next season it will seem silly that we were proposing power forwards to start at center over leonard.

We should have made the Batum trade for draft picks then we could have used the cap space to make an offer to Mcgee like 4 years 50 million. If we sign Batum then we must settle with Przybilla for a year as a starter and mentor to Leonard and Freeland, I think this is not a bad option.

i disagree with the vibe of this string. You do center by committee for the year with leonard starting (he is 7'2" and athletic) so he can win the tip and give a energy burst to start the game. Then you rotate our pfs into the center position. Heres the essential details:
    Aldridge and Leonard start 4&5
    Aldridge plays 35min
    Leonard plays 20min
    Freeland plays 20min
    Hickson plays 20min
As season progresses you can edit this based on merit.

id rather play our young guys and see what they have this year, if we only win 30games so what. figure out if they are keepers or if we need to rebuild. i dont want to sign a bunch of vets and be mediocre for 2years and then rebuild again. resign pryz and let him back of leonard /freeland. you could have hickson come in a few minutes before lamarcus goes out too just like we 3 man rotated camby gerald and lamarcus. just dont play lamarcus over 35 every game like nate did.

i agree on seeing what they have and building from there/adding pieces as they go. i think they'll win more than 30 games tho. wes will have a bounce back season and i dont think lillard can play as bad as felton even with rookie mistakes. i remember after nate got sacked the team played with a lot more energy. they just have to learn to control the pace of the game and get good looks and make them. hopefully next year will be more of an uptempo hustle team. i think kaleb or is it caleb? anyways i think he can do that as far as motivating and being a players coach but i also wanna see an experienced x's and o's guy for when shots become flat and the defense becomes stagnant.  maybe kaleb could be an assistant?

I think we could still make a playoff spot, if the rookies play great. We will win more then 30 for sure. I think Meyers Leonard will surprise people quickly, I wanna go out and but a number 11 jersey already. I think Olshey has already expressed that he would use Freeland and Hickson and the 5, and Aldridge has played a lot of  his minutes in Portland at the 5. Since we lost  out on the Hibbert deal, I see us just playing center by committee until Leonard is ready, which may not take that long. And Lillard will split starting  minutes with Nolan Smith I think, they both look great so far in summer league.

It can not be JJ Hickson. He's too much of an offensive threat to be paired with Aldridge in the starting lineup. If we roll out with Leonard and Freeland off the bench together, it will be tough for the guards to operate, because both of those guys' main focus is not on the offensive end. We really could use Hickson's offensive firepower off the bench. I think Meyers is a little to green to just throw to the wolves right away, so I'd start Freeland. He's older, has international experience, and wouldn't have to shoulder much of the load playing next to LA. Just rebounded and defend, my friend.

If we sign Prz then I would start him with Freeland as a backup.  Leonard would be there for spot duty.  If we do not sign Prz then I would hope we are trying to get Robin Lopez or Steimsma.  I think there are some problems teams are having signing them.  We could always fall back and move LA to center for a short time with Freeland as backup.  It might be interesting to see Lillard play the pick and roll with LA at center.

Lopez is going to be to spendy without a trade. I love Pryz but i am tryin to tell you guys that his starting days are over, and with our youth push i really dont feel comfortable giving reserve minutes to him that could be given to our youngsters.

I thought we were only talking about a center to start the season.  Starting with Prz could be for a month or two then see how Freeland performs with his time as well as Leonard then make a decision how to move forward.
