    Well, we walked into this off season with tremendous amount of Cap Space with no sense of urgency by departed Larry Miller to hire a GM and we finally get one just before the 2012-2013 Draft;

    We have a good Draft; however we cannot get a Top Free Agent to come play for Portland:

    Batum wants to leave for the Great White North and not be committed to Portland even if we match his offer sheet from Minnesota;

    Jerry Sloan does not want to Coach here;

    We have one tried and tested Veteran in LaMarcus Aldridge with no real supporting cast for him (except JJ & Wesley):

    Where are we at now?  Who knows?  If we Match Batum Offer Sheet, we do not have that much more to spend.

    All in All our off-season started as off-season of optimism, now it has turned into the Blazers missing the playoffs again.

    Jumping the gun. Lot of assumptions  and generalizations and getting worried with no evidence yet. Don't understand why some of you guys are acting like if we didn't suddenly turn into shining gold, that we're instead the Charlotte Bobcats lol.

    You forgot to mention that after this summer, it's already a pretty good bet that our team will do better than we did last season. Is that worth anything to you as a Blazer fan?

    No it is not I would rather the team go balls out an fail miserably than play it safe in hopes of squeezing into the playoffs. Go big or go home.

    Confused... What does playing it safe mean exactly? Are you referring to not making moves that would involve several other moves to pay off? Just cuz we're not being reckless doesn't mean we're being too cautious with our cap space... you want the team to go balls out and go for it... that means you want them to make the most of what they've got. I agree that it's not ideal to squeeze into the playoffs, but again, people seem to be so caught up in FA fever that they think the only way this team improves is through the draft lottery! That's just silly, and I'm pretty sure that no team has ever gone from draft lottery to champions too quickly, have they?

    If we do what you're saying and just go for it, then yes there's a possibility that we fail miserably (which is fine with me, as long as we're really going for it and playing exciting ball), but it's more likely that we'd be somewhere in between failing miserably and succeeding mightily. So if your goal is to fail miserably when we can't win everything, then it sounds like you're in favor of tanking?

    Go big or go home is not about whether you win it all or lose it all, it's about putting in all the effort you have and going full steam ahead, and if it doesn't add up then you go home and start over and try again the next round.

    Sooooo which are you saying?

    I just hope our squad has more faith in themselves than some of you exhibit here. I for one think that we'll be competitive, with or without Batum.

    My disappointment comes from the GM and the rest of the Blazers staff. Retooling was the word of the summer, I am just not seeing that happening. We are on the verge of starting two rookies and have 8 rookie scale players on our team. We have not added a single free agent that was not on our team last year.

    Hey Folks, I am a die hard loyal Blazer fan.  I had season tickets with my family from 1970 when they first came into the league until 1991 when I moved to California.

    I have stood up to Laker Fans and have been the ridicule of many jokes because of my loyalty.  I do have faith in the Blazers because of my history and loyalty to them.  However, there was so much optimism coming into this off season when they started jettisoning all the contracts prior to the trade deadline.

    We had over $25m available for off season moves, two Lottery Choices and the anticipation of the Blazers having a GM in place well before the draft that could start really making decisions regarding the free agent market.

    Well with all that going for us, again Larry Miller’s ineptness and lack of not being a Basketball Man, has put us in a position to be re-building for at least this season and probably next.  Yes Paul Allen is a great owner, however he is so concerned about being below the salary cap, and yet he is not willing to do whatever it takes to win a championship (meaning willing to exceeding the Salary Cap).  Yes I know he got burned with the Jail Blazers; however that was a long time ago with a coach (Adelman) who did not discipline the players.

    So what happened to all of that optimism? It is called years of disappointment in the past, with really being the possibility (slight) of being a playoff team in the next year or two.

    I am Loyal, just tired of being extremely loyal in a hostile sports environment.

    Go Blazers, Ducks, Timbers, Winterhawks and Seahawks.

    The Loyal BlazerManiac.

    I see that we sold our last pick in the draft for cash...... why? There were several solid players on the board that could have filled holes in our team for cheap. "GO BIG OR GO HOME" I think you are saying that the owner and management need to provide fans with a team that contends for the title. I think you are also saying that a .500 sports team is called a Baseball team, to be a champion in the NBA your average needs to be .700 or better.

    I am hoping for the best but with the moves made so far I don't see us winning the championship this year...... We need a starting center this year who can mentor Leonard and I don't think Lillard can lead this team to the championship in his first year no matter how good he is. Right now there is no mentor for him at Pg and that needs to be addressed. Nolan Smith has no position in the NBA, he is not a PG or a SG, I think we need to get rid of him rather then waste time and clear a little cap space to sign Nate Robinson to mentor Lillard.

    We didn't sign anyone who we KNOW can ball, we know LA can ball, JJ can on occasion and WM is getting better Batum is not worth it and our Rookies Might be able to ball in the NBA. When I look around the west I see teams getting Known and proven Ballers. We have hope our team can do well but lets be honest, we won't make the playoffs with this bunch, therefore this summer was a bust.

    If we signed Hibbert we might have had something. I just don't see LA being able to carry the team in scoring. Bummer days ahead.

    Honestly, I felt all along this was not the best year to rebuild... the draft was weak, too many projects, and free agency did not have a lot of appeal.  I personally would rather see Portland save some of their money and use it towards some better players.

    If Portland can still trade for a guy like Iguodala, I'm all for it.  Pay that dude a ton of cash b/c not only could he represent portland in the all-star game, but the dude has USA on his chest.  I don't know his current situation, but I don't imagine anything will happen while he's on the olympic team, but I dunno.

    I think Meyers LA Iguo matthews lillard is a better starting 5 than we had last year, and I like the depth with hickson, barton... I haven't lost hope.

    Who coaches the team is going to be a big deal, and we've already lost out on at least 2 guys we wanted.

    and blazermaniac, I don't care about waiting.  I haven't had high expectations of Portland for years and this team has been completely gutted, so having high expectations in the next few years is only going to cause more frustration.  I'm just going to be excited to see our new team and I'm looking more forward to getting better talent to surround these guys with in the next couple years.

    and we shouldn't be closing the books on this year b/c even tho free agents are about all signed, allen and olshey have a long time yet to be able to trade for players.

    Hibbert was them trying to go big. But the pacers matched nothing else they could about it. So because that didnt work what should they have done. You cant expect a full turnaround in one season. You just have to be patient and this is coming from a guy who lives in SoCal, I dont care if people laugh when i say im a blazers fan because im confident that this team can be good but it just doesnt happen over night.

    We just wanted them to make some noise and other than the cheap deals given to Claver, Freeland and Hickson they have not done much so far.

    Blazers will never be an elite team nor will they ever win a title or do anything great and thats due to the pathetic front office we have who has no idea how to build a team........fire everyone and go get some prior nba players who know how and what is talent...

    To alleviate the Shit for Brains means Paul ALlen needs to let go control of Basketball Decisions.  That means hire Phil Jackson, pay him whatever he wants and let him make all decisions on talent.
