I think everyone, including the media, is blowing this way out of proportion. Of course Batum wants to go to Minny. You don't think DeAndre Jordan wanted to go to San Francisco last year, or that Hibbert didn't want to come here. That's what being a free agent is all about. Looking at your options and going for the one you like best. That doesn't mean that he wont come back here and play. If he really wanted out of Portland he would have done the Carmello/Howard, and that's tell management that you are not going to re-sign and to trade you to a certain team or you will just walk away when your contract is up. If he truly never wanted to play here again he would have been a complete idiot to have signed that offer sheet. Basically what he is saying is that for 11mil+ a year he doesn't care where he plays. I'm glad we are keeping him he might not be worth that much, but he might end up being worth every penny. He is no Lebron don't get me wrong, but he has the potential to be that kind(not caliber) of player. A point-forward with lockdown D and great range. Do we really want to loose another budding young allstar because we cant seem to see potential, or injury, coming at all.

Problem is he does not have that kind of power only unrestricted free agents do. The issue is not what kind of player can he be, everyone knows he has lots of potential but the problem is what if he never gets there.  Right now his play does not deserve 11.615 million a year simple as that. Will it in a few years that is another story. Sometimes it is just better to get what you can for someone than to overpay them in hopes they like you.

But Cmeese, what you're saying as far as "getting what we can" for Batum has the same problems as what you're saying keeping Batum has, don't you see that? "The problem is what if he never gets there" what if those draft picks aren't good picks, or even if they are what if they don't progress in the NBA, or even if they do what if they get used as an asset and traded to another team instead of helping the Blazers directly? If all they end up being is assets, what if Batum's game improves in just this year and we could use him as a BETTER asset for the same thing? "Right now his play does not deserve 11" obviously, but that's why it's a 4 year deal not a 1 year deal. Just sayin dude, you're looking at this very one-sidedly. Every point you make about Batum can be made about the other side of it.

If Batum refuses to sign any contract then he plays on his qualifying offer and next summer he is an unrestricted free agent.

The same could be said about you posts what if the picks and cap flexibility allowed us to get James Harden. Or we keep the picks and they turn out to be stars. There are tons of hypothetical situations. What if Batum really does not want to be a Blazer and demand a trade constantly or refuses to play hard, typical stuff people with superstar egos do. If Batum acts a fool then how much will we wish that we traded him for picks?

Batum said himself Minnesota is his first choice for 11.6 million a year we do not deserve to be someones consolation prize.

Do you think Hibbert is going to tank Indy? If this was another town none of this would even be news. But this is a one trick pony and we have been riding this story to death and we actually got Batum to say he would like to play somewhere else. Even Kobe demanded a trade a few years back. Attitudes change, and 11mil a year helps you get over it really quick. Batum's right, he isn't Bruce Bowen. He has a lot more potential than that. Did you see what he did last summer for France? Then he comes back here and has to watch the season go down the drain with the ball in the hands of Felton and Crawford. I'd probably be frustrated and want a bigger role too. The point is that Batum is a professional. He will play to his potential no matter where he is.

Hawes will be a hot commodity by the trade deadline, I would think the sixers could find a better offer.

However, I do believe Mo Williams could have somewhat of  a high trade value. Olshey needs to make a deal to get a big man while we...
