Jerry Sloan - Master of pick and roll serves current talent well.  If we can get everyone to move, pick, and take advantage of everyone's stellar passing ability, well, I think the rookies won't look like rookies.

Kaleb Canales - I like that he used the bench last year, but he tookover when there was no hope of making the playoffs.  Not sure I have enough confidence in him to take the players to the next level.  With the roster as it looks and him running the show, I'd say chance of returning to the lottery are high.  But I heard Portland's scouting coaches at the summer league, so I really doubt Kaleb's going to continue as HC.

Mike D'Antoni - Asst to blazers in 2000.  Coach of the year with the Suns in 04/5, known for fast-paced offense.  But a large part of his success was after the arrival of Nash.  He didn't do too well with the Knicks till melo and amare arrived. I think he could serve our young guys well, but I fear sloppy mistakes.

Word on Twitter is Olshey hopped a flight to Vegas to meet with D'Antoni.
It was also reported that Portland is going to be looking for a coach during the summer league in Vegas.  So don't be surprised if someone is named coach by close of summer league.

Rod Strickland - I don't want him as a head coach, not sure he's ready yet, but he's been by Calipari's side for years and with his playing experience in Portland, I think fans would love to see him, even if just as an assistant on the sidelines... bringing his knowledge of Calipari's offense would be invaluable... he's been by his side since Memphis... maybe 5 years now?  I'm not sure, but its been awhile.

Reggie Miller - not sure his interest in coaching, and I probably don't want him running the show ... yet... but could you imagine him as an assistant?  I think players and fans alike would love it.

Throw out some names, I want to hear more... I'm thirsty for

Brian Shaw. Very close with Lillard. Worked as an assistant to the Zen Master. Get Gary Payton to be his assistant. And grab Patrick Ewing to work with our bigs. Send Meyers and Freeland to Houston to work with the Dream Olajuwon on their footwork.

Lol, commontongue. You realize there's a salary cap on staff too, right? That group would demand more money than a 15-man roster.

I think you did well to put Jerry Sloan on the top of that list. Like you said, pick and roll master. If he were calling the shots with Lillard, Aldridge, Leonard out there at the same time. Awesome. Also he's definitely the kind of coach that is going to get the most out of developing talent. Feels like a no-brainer, but since it's not a guarantee it's important to know who else is out there.

Has Stan Van Gundy signed with a team? He's at least noteworthy. He would probably improve the ball movement, and get a lot out of the inside-out that LaMarcus makes possible.

I'm also believing less and less that Canales will be head coach at the beginning of the season. Olshey said something in his interview about talking to coaches or having coaches in mind (I don't have the quote). I noted it because it seemed to be a little more promising for the Blazers' future than his "in-house favorite" comment early on.

Actually, there is no salary cap for coaches and staff.

No He said when Orlando released him he was taking a year off. But I have been thinking of Van Gundy since he left Orlando I wish we could lure him here.

Van Gundy  coached Dwight Howard for years, and coached him to the NBA Finals, and the NBA Eastern conference Finals. Now lets just look at Dwight Howards #'s last year, and Aldridges #'s last year, and then tell me we shouldn't get Van Gundy here. Keep in mind Dwight Howard plays center and ALdridge can play Center well.

    Dwight Howard 2011-2012 season avg's he is 6-11 265lbs.
    PPG-20.6
    FG%-57.3%
    RPG-14.5
    free-throw%-49.1%
    BPG-2.2
    APG-1.9

Now Lamarcus Aldridge 2011-2012 season avg's  he is 6-11 240Lbs. can play center and PF.
    PPG-21.7
FG%-51.2%(1/2 time or more not at center)
    RPG-8.0
    free-throw%-81.4
    BPG-0.8
    APG-2.4

Just saying, can you do the Van-Gundy?

From what I have seen Canales is in the drivers seat. Perhaps we should be looking to the college ranks for our next coach.

Well I think Sloan would be nice to have but if he said no thanks than so be it. Van Gundy I think would be a good piece but I think he will take a year off well deserved after being gnawed on by the wolves last year when he got thrown to them. D'antoni I do not think he got a fair shot Melo I think is uncoachable as well as Amare I think Chandler is realizing that he screwed up leaving Dallas for the Knicks they looked good on paper but not sure all that ego makes for a championship team. I would be ok with trying him out I just dont think Canoli is our guy but I could be wrong

Perfect opprotunity for Phil Jackson to take the reins of a team with out a A+ superstar and turn them into a force to be dealt with... wishful thinking.

But would make his legacy much more deserved... not that it isnt now, but come on, he has always has the best players in the league under his supervision... someone call Phil!

Well, the lottery is tomorrow, so fingers crossed. What my issue is, is that why would the Bucks trade away one of their best players, and potential DPOY for many years to come, for Nic Batum and a bunch of picks in a weak draft?
