The Portland Trailblazers have released their summer league roster. Four current Blazers (W. Matthews, L. Babbitt, N. Smith, and E. Williams) will join the three newest Blazer acquisitions (D. Lillard, M. Leonard, and W. Barton) along with young talent from all over the nation and overseas. Here is the roster composition:

    F - Luke Babbitt | 6-9 | Trailblazers
    G - Will Barton | 6-6 | Memphis
    G - Dee Bost | 6-2 | Mississippi State
    G - Scott Christopherson | 6-3 | Iowa State
    G - Jon Diebler | 6-6 | Greece
    F/C - Gavin Edwards | 6-10 | Greece
    F/C - Ekene Ibekwe | 6-9 | Germany
    C - Meyers Leonard | 7-1 | Illinois
    F - Marcus Lewis | 6-8 | Venezuela
    G - Damian Lillard | 6-3 | Weber State
    G - Wesley Matthews | 6-5 | Trailblazers
    F - Sam Muldrow | 6-9 | Greece
    G - LaMarcus Reed III | 6-5 | Texas-Arlington
    G - Nolan Smith | 6-2 | Trailblazers
    G - Elliot Williams | 6-5 | Trailblazers

Expect Wesley Matthews, being the most experienced veteran in the group, to be a vocal leader on the court and in the locker room. Wesley loves to play with young talent, and was reportedly at many of the pre-draft workouts watching the young talent that might join him on the floor next season.

Luke Babbitt has also played in the summer league, and should be expected to bring some experience to the floor.

This summer will mark the first summer league play for guards Nolan Smith and Elliot Williams, but they will be bringing the credibility of NBA experience to the court.

A lot of excitement surrounds our current rookies, Damian Lillard, Meyers Leonard, and Will Barton. They will have a chance to compete against other young NBA talent and take their first step to the "BIG" stage (just imagine that "I" as the NBA logo). Expect some energy and athleticism out of all three draft picks.

The second most represented area on this roster is Greece, though the players aren't native to the country. Keep an eye on 2011 second-round pick, Jon Diebler. He has four years of college experience as well as a year of European professional basketball. He easily has an NBA 3-point range and is not afraid of the big shots. If he doesn't earn himself a spot on the roster, don't be surprised if he turns his draft rights into a valuable trade piece for Portland.

The schedule for the Trailblazers is as follows (all times are Pacific):

    Sun., July 15    @ 7:30 p.m.     vs. NOH
    Tue., July 17    @ 5:00 p.m.     vs. HOU
    Thu., July 19    @ 3:00 p.m.     vs. ATL
    Fri., July 20     @ 3:00 p.m.     vs. DEN
    Sat., July 21     @ 1:00 p.m.     vs. MIA

Watch games on Comcast Sportsnet or NBA TV. Or you can take a road trip to Las Vegas and see the games live for $25 per ticket.

What is most exciting to you Blazer fans about this summer league?

Lillard Barton and Leonard is gonna be very interesting to see. Lets see how good Lillard does when he actually has talent surrounding him! GO BLAZERS!!! Hope we destroy Anthony Davis and Austin Rivers!!! (if AD plays)

AD will definitely play. I want to see how Leonard handles him, because New Orleans is a conference team, and the matchup is more significant.

I know. Since Elliot is cleared to play, I'm stoked to see our back court. There are a lot of guards on the roster, so I don't expect a ton of minutes for any ONE player, but I can't wait to see all the combinations of 1 and 2 guards that we will see in the regular season. Should be pretty awesome.

You're not totally wrong. That's usually the composition of almost every summer league roster, but there's nothing making that a rule. A third-year guy like Matthews is the exception in summer league, which is why I think he'll be much more of a leader this summer.

Of course, you say the word 'basketball' and Wesley comes running, so he might be doing it for selfish reasons as well. lol

Matthews shot a best 37% in college. Oladipo just shot 44% to assume he will not be a good 3 point shooter is  presumptuous.
