12 million a year for Batum is too much money for what he has provided this team. It seems Minnesota is willing to make a deal so here are the options.

Nikola Pekovic this guy has turned into a beast on the block and would be a great piece to add if we cannot get Hibbert.
Luke Ridnour we need a veteran pg and we have been interested in Luke for a while he would be a nice pick up to help take some pressure off Lillard.
Draft Pick this is obviously the most important piece we could get as we have been hamstrung a little by owing Charlotte next years pick.
Trade exception this could very useful if we want to trade Matthews for a replacement SF.

    Some names to consider
James Johnson he is not fast but the dude is a top notch defender he is cheap and young this would be a great addition.
AK-47 he has always been a good defender and a head case he would be a nice replacement for Batum provided he doesn't command more than 5 million per.
Michael Beasley the kid is skilled but does not always live up to his potential should be a big time target if he wants around 8 million.
Andre Igoudala he is expensive but he is one of the best SF's in the league. Not sure what we have though that Philly wants.

Who do you see us getting if we let Batum walk?

Not sure Gerald Green is a good option dude has not played a full season since 2006. Lee is a good three point shooter but I would like him to improve his 43% overall shooting. He would be an option though.

Would Minnesota be willing to give up Derrick Williams for Batum? Or just Beasley? If we can't get D Will I would go after Beasley or Pekovic for him.

Beasley is a free agent so unless we do sign and trade for him he would not be part of the deal. I also do not see them giving up Williams considering they wanted the #2 pick in the draft for him.

is it official that batum's not coming back?  I don't watch local news and haven't been online the past few days to hear anything and nothing was posted on twitter.

If this is the case, I'm sure portland's going to look into a small forward that can come in and start, but it makes the pick of Will Barton look even better b/c Will's played SF-PG; he can control the ball, pass, create.  I'm not sure that he's a very reliable deep threat, but as others have said, Batum hasn't really brought much to Portland.  I like him because he's athletic and he seems to be improving, but he's just not assertive or tough enough... one reason I wanted Harrison Barnes.  But Will can play SF for Portland.  I believe he's only 6-6, but he's got a long reach.

I'm afraid there is a supply and demand factor to this whole thing unfortunately.  Batum might be worth it due to this alone.  none of these options sound nearly as good as coming back with Nic...to me anyway.  Hibbert is not worth max either... but, the risk is similar with him as it is with Batum.  if we were on the outside looking in, would we be more apt to compete for Nic?  obviously the grass is greener effect is at work here.  it won't be a terrible thing if we fork out the cash for Nic.  it will only be because we're cornered into it, not because we're dumb.

I applaud those players as replacements, but none of them make sense. They are either a 2 guard or not versatile enough to play a swingman. The truth is we need Batum back and can't avoid to lose him!! Pay that man his money!

I'm now officially off the Batum bandwagon. At this point I'd match Minn offer and trade him to a bottom feeder like Charlotte before next season's deadline. We should go after Ilyasova, bring in Freeland and Claver, resign Hickson and hope we get Hibbert. Worst case scenario? We play a rookie lineup and become a lottery team next year. Nic was worth 9.5 mil and 5 years. He's not worth allstar, game changing money. If Minnesota thinks he is, well it's their dime. I hope we get Hibbert and that Lillard turns into a star, rookie of the year material. I don't see us contending for a championship with the core we have now. What was called a retool is more than likely turning into a rebuild. If Batum's heart is not in Rip City, let him go to 40 below zero Minnesota and play. I want long term players who love the Blazers and want to grow alongside LaMarcus. Anything else is too similiar to Dwight Howard whining in Orlando. No thanks! Lesson here is that we needed a coach in place before free agency started. Adelman was the turning point for Batum even though he endorsed Canales in his exit interview

Where are all of the rumors coming from?  I am not sure who is saying what and how good is it.  I think we are listening to a lot of fodder and I think we need to be careful how we use the information.  I think a lot of us are drawing conclusions based on data that we do not know are factual.  Let's not start blaming before we have the facts.

Doubt he wont be a Blazer next year. The FO sees something in him...he could be special so I dont have a problem. If he absolutely doesn't want to be here I would sign and trade him for Ridnour and Derrick Williams.  If not Ridnour try to get Pekovic throw in Kurt Thomas if we need to.

The Blazers said they will match any offer Batum gets. He isn't moving anywhere. And all the "Batum wants out of Portland" rumors were started by Dwight Jaynes. I do not believe a word of it. When he came up with rumors that Allen had all but sold the team, Paul Allen looked dead at Jaynes during a press conference, said "I have no idea where these rumors may have come from" and stared at him for a second. Obviously not a great source.

I doubt MIN would give us Pekovic, even for Batum. So, the way I see it, there are two potential scenarios:

1: A trade involving Derrick Williams, Luke Ridnour/J.J. Barea and hopefully a draft pick for Batum.

2: A three-team-trade with Philly and MIN. POR acquire Igoudala (and if we push it, maybe a future draft pick). MIN get Batum. Philly gets a package of players (and maybe picks) from MIN.

    - I like the second scenario for several reasons. Igoudala would be a nice addition, both as a player and as a leader. His contract might scare most people, but it's only for two seasons. We can certainly afford it this coming season, and if he chooses to opt in next season (it's a player's option), it would be a tremendous trade asset if we don't wish to keep him. Personally I love Iggy and as Batum keeps complaining (it's not only Haynes and Jaynes who says this), I say go for this trade. It would be a great solution.

I just do not see IGGY opting out hard to believe he would make more than the 15 he is scheduled in his option season. Then again I am not exactly buying this trade either if they were going to cut salary by dealing Iggy then they would not have amnestied Brand.

I think we should still try to get Pekovic for Batum (value for value).  If they do not like this trade then they should keep Pekovic and we will keep Batum.  Let's push this and see what happens.  Sorry, I know we are not the deciders in this drama.

Peko just had a breakout season, they're going to need him more than they specifically need Batum.

On the other hand, IF they wanted to do that, I'm not sure if we really want Pekovic, he plays well (kinda like Przy's game) but he's undersized for a C, and he apparently has some serious "bone spurs" in his heels, which caused him to sit out games towards the end of the season. We don't want more players with high-risk injury history.

If we would trade Batum for Williams (sf for sf) then we would need something else to make the trade beneficial to both sides.  This could be a First round draft pick, Pekovic, or Ridenour.  I think we need to think value for value and maybe their idea of a trade where we take all of their weaker players for Batum who would upgrade their wing position is not acceptable.

Are the bone spurs in Pekovic's heels something that can be taken care of with surgical procedures?  If so I think we should take a chance and get him.  Has there been any movement to take care of the problem?  I think he could be a force in the middle and help us to manage our center position now that we will not have Hibbert.

I had Peko on my fantasy team for most of last season, so followed it a little when it happened... I believe that the Wolves sat him for a bit at one point to try and get a surgical procedure done, but when he began playing again, he still complained about pain and would need more surgery in the offseason. I'm not sure if that is 100% accurate or if it ended up playing out that way, but either or, it seems like he'd be a high-risk player to trade away Batum for, since Pekovic may or may not play as well as last year depending on his heels, and who knows if he'd be getting any better or (even still a starter) in a few years. Fortunately we'd have Leonard coming up to take his spot if that happened, but still, compared to Batum, the #1SF available, who is guaranteed to keep improving year to year right now, and has had very few games missed due to minor injuries... it's just not worth the risk without having more guarantees.

oh, getting back to the original post here by cmeese, Iguodala has been rumored to portland, but beasley no... i think i heard beasley's going to be signing with the suns... them and the knicks are also interested in felton.  but i heard dragic's also signing with the suns... he must feel at home there.

I kinda do hope portland gets Iguodala.  He's tougher and better defensively than batum.  He's more expensive i do believe, but not by much, and I know his scoring has dipped a bit in recent years, but I think a change of scenery will do him good... i like him more than batum... much more polished and even with him struggling of late, he's scoring more than batum.  but they seem to be 2 guys going in opposite directions.  still, like I said, I think iguodala could very well be rejuvenated and make the all star team with portland.

Those of us who enjoy the Diamond in the Rough, known as flyover land, understand that all Batum wants is a direct flight to Paris.  MSP happens to have that.  Figure out a way to fly direct from PDX to CDG and we could get this over with once and for all.  Go Wolves!

not alot of options- batum for Al jefferson? in a weirdish trade?

portland receives Al and derick williams
utah gets ridhour, jj,  portland 2013 1st rd pick (not good draft make top 10 protected)
    min gets batum- utah pick

    lillard, matthew, williams, LA, jefferson

watson/ridour,haywood,?,millsap/jj, favors (creates more depth and clears cap room)

    rubio/johnson/batum/love/ pekovic

Jams that trade is not well though out and your better than that. First we cannot trade JJ until either December or January after signing him as a free agent. Charlotte owns our pick so we cannot deal a 2013 pick. Second we do not have cap space to absorb that trade without matching salaries so we would need to trade off at least another 4 million in salary.
