Chris Haynes of CSNNW.com reports that the Portland Trail Blazers will meet with restricted free agent forward Nicolas Batum later this week.
    ---------------------------
Restricted free agent forward, Nicolas Batum, will meet with the Portland Trail Blazers this Thursday or Friday in Portland, a league source says.
    ---------------------------

Batum has yet to reach a verbal agreement on an offer sheet. He reportedly met with the Minnesota Timberwolves over the weekend and has multiple other suitors, including the New Orleans Hornets, Toronto Raptors and Cleveland Cavaliers.

Suitors can offer Batum a 4-year contract while Portland can add a fifth year. Offer sheets cannot be signed until July 11, after the NBA's free agency moratorium is completed. At that point, the Blazers would have three days to match.

Batum said back in April that he was "99 percent" sure that the Blazers would match any offer made to him and the team's ownership and management has consistently referred to him as one of the roster's core pieces. The Blazers extended a qualifying offer to Batum last week.

Batum, 23, averaged 13.9 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.0 blocks and 1.0 steals in 30.4 minutes for the Blazers last season.

Well if he really wants us to match, he should wait till we try to sign Hibbert or another big name FA. If he doesn't wait for another deal to go through, he is a dick, and we might let him go because he would screw over our cap space.

If Batum thinks he is worth that kind of money, let him go.  Sign JJ Hickson and let Luke Babbitt start.  Heshowed a lot at the end of last season.

i think letting batum go would be a huge mistake- in the next 2 FA class, batum is a top 5 sf FA, we can not replace him effectively

Offer Batum the five years, and give him 2 1/2 years to become what he obviously thinks he is. If he doesnt, trade him . He's an idiot if he doesnt stick around to see if Lillard can make his game easier. With a stroke like Damian's, that would free up Wesley and Batum on the perimeter to get wide open shots.

Here's the way I see it.

If Batum would like to stay in Portland then he would wait to sign an offer sheet from whoever it may be in order to allow Portland to put some pieces together to better not only the Blazers as a team but a better environment for Batum to excell rather than keeping things basically the same as it was last year. Then Portland could pay him whatever it is that they need to keep him here.

I know his agent seems to be in control but Batum is still the boss. If he signs an offer sheet on the 11th not giving Portland even just 1 extra day then it shows he cares nothing about staying in Portland and is looking for the most money in the shortest amount of time, so wave him goodbye.

Lol, no. Dwight Howard would be the absolute worst thing to ever happen to Portland, and no doubt my fellow message boarders will let you know why.
