It does suck that an offer that high came in so fast. It really puts us in a bind as to whether or not we sign him. If we did match the offer, it would take a HUGE chunk out of our cap space. I doubt we will get Hibbert even with the max contract, mainly because he is the Pacer's All-Star and they will match it. I see us passing on Batum, not getting Hibbert, and continuing to throw out large contracts to the big name FA's until one signs with us. I like you Nic, but i think your gone bud. If we do match.. we are really be putting A LOT of faith in him, hoping he becomes an All-Star someday.

i disagree with u entirely- if we happen to grab a big name (gordon lopez hibbert) then batum is our only option- babbit is clearly not a starter, and with our space gone, we can not target a sf as good as he is, we can go over the cap for batum because of our qualifying offer

We're going to match, everybody calm down. He's not going anywhere until his season averages stop improving. Also, who else would we get assuming we didn't keep Nic? Exactly. He's staying in Portland. Lol @ everybody "bye" after one initial offer, lol.

That's just it though, with it being this early in FA, an offer like that puts us in a tough spot. We might have to sign a different SF (not as good as batum, but one to fill the hole). We can get cheaper replacements though in Ilyasova, J. Green, Beasley (doubt it), G. Hill, R. Lewis, A. Randolph, M. Barnes, or even add Wallace back (HIGHLY doubt this). We do have options if we go after a different big name in FA and pass on Batum. PLUS the only way we can go over the cap with a qualifying offer for batum is if we sign him AFTER we sign another big name FA. We can't sign batum and then go over the cap with "_____" FA. So unless we get a big name to sign quickly, going over the cap hold is not an option with batum.

If we do match and sign him this early, we cut our cap space down tremendously. We are no longer able to offer Max deals to big name guys. That's the only reason why i see us passing on batum. Honestly, i hope we do find a way to keep him and add a good C to the mix. It will be a tough job for Oshley though.

There are no PG's worth taking to offer a big deal.... Nash? Olshey said he doesn't want to bring a PG in who only has a few years left. Dragic? Overrated and overpriced (although would help us). The only name is Hibbert, that would drastically help us. Lopez isn't worth the money, seeing as how we'd be letting go of Batum... We'd be losing out on potential for a mediocre center. If Hibbert is a bust (which he Will be staying in Indiana), we'll keep Batum. Timeline of events: Offer Hibbert max contract T-wolves offer Batum max contract Indiana holds Hibbert We hold Batum. Simple.

The more I think abouth this, the more I think we should give him away. This is an obvious move from the T-wolves to mess with our cap space (they know we love Batum). I say let T-wolves get stuck with 12mill/year on Batum. 14ppg and 4rebounds a game is not worth 12mil a year. Hand Batum to Minn and let Minn be a mediocre team for the next 4 years (they can't afford anybody else if we give them Batum, LOL). This is an obvious move to mess with our cap space. Besides, we have Matthews who is arguably just as good (not on D) and has better ability to slash in the paint (Batum too timid and not as aggressive). Offer Batum 9 mill a year and let him decide if he wants to stay in Portland or go to Minn for a pay increase.

The only thing Portland ought to offer him is a cab ride to the airport. We can find a solid replacement for much less.

I think 9 mil is a bit too high but I would do it for stability and with the possibility of having a better Batum. There is no way I would give him Lamarcus payscale he is not worth it. I would buy him a beer and say 8 mill or enjoy sunny Minnesota where the birds are smaller than the mosquito's.

Batum is going to go for whoever pays him most. He doesnt care about Portland, and his agent basically said they'll only listen to a Chris Paul/Blake Griffin contract. Foreign players honestly could give a rip about where they play, they just want money and fame to boost their status back home. Think about Rudy. Its gonna be like this all over again. They have huge egos, Nic just hides it more.

Ditto with this. The T'Wolves are also planning to sign Brandon Roy. With their reputation of being a "rehab," they may also be contemplating on signing Greg Oden.

Wesley cant guard guys like Durant and Lebron. Doesnt work as an option at SF, you'd have to find a different guy.

My point was Wesley isnt familiar with guarding that position on a nightly basis. SF are generally much more physical and while Wesley looks like a decent defender against guards, he wouldnt be able to contain even mediocre SFs, he doesnt have the size.
