Our fellow GM Olshey attended college in Syracuse, wanted to be an actor after college, and tried out for a role on General Hospital?

lol.   I had to look him up because I was watching the combine and there was a lot of speculation that Portland could take Waiters due to Olshey's Syracuse roots. They made it sound like Olshey has a relationship with Boeheim and he knows all about Waiters.  I found their insight interesting.  But I do think the possible correlation simply due to vicinity is a bit of a reach.  I don't know if he truly has any such relationship with the orange and boeheim.

another thing these guys I was listening to (on some espn draft special),is they think Portland is more-than-likely not going to draft both the 6 and 11 picks.  They didn't really talk about money, but more so opportunities because so many teams are going to be coming after portland with various offers.  Portland has a lot of power in their hands and their 2 draft picks help Portland's future.  But other thing to think about is, with Aldridge, Batum, Matthews, and possibly signing Nash, then trading both picks and Nolan or something for Dwight Howard actually makes Portland a potential power house in the West.

I don't even know Dwight's story, if he wants to be traded, or what his contract looks like, so feasibly what I"m talking about may not even be possible, but the vision is what I"m talking about... trading 2 picks for an established player is possible.  So the way I see it, Portland could rebuild and maybe work towards a championship in a few years, but they could also be a contender this coming season if they play their cards right and just go for it.  And honestly, I'd be up for acquiring established talent than drafting many of the risks in this year's draft.  I mean, what you get in Drummond, Lillard, Waiters, MKG... it's not perfection... they all have flaws and need work.  And none are going to make Portland a championship team overnight.  Maybe in a few years we'll maybe be wishing we drafted 1 or 2 of them, but you'd seriously pass on Dwight Howard if he could be had for both draft picks?   I don't think so.

Howard has stated over and over and over, he wants to go nowhere but Brooklyn or Dallas.

Even if Portland made a trade to get him we would still have to sign him after this year, he would be a free agent again and leave. Not worth it to give up all that for one year, not to mention the headache of him wanting to be traded again.

biggest obstacle is portland's unwillingness to lock guys up into large, long-term deals.  I think we're still paying on Shawn Kemp's contract.  lol.

a couple more did you knows...

I saw 2 things on twitter.  Crawford officially declared for free agency.   And someone (maybe Henson, i forget) tweetied that O'Quinn was going to be picked by Detroit.  That doesn't mean for sure they're taking him, bu the pistons have 2 picks wrapped around portland in the 2nd round, and that's about where O'Quinn is projected.  gonna be interesting to see where he lands.

We need Victor Oladipo. He would be perfect. We need Washington''s #3 pick. Trade JJ?

Jermaine O''Neal, Drazen, Z-Bo, Sheed (I know he was already a star but still). Also Drazen was buried under Drexler and Porter.

EZ, are you kidding me? You essentially want to trade LMA for Noel, or worse, DEANDRE JORDAN?

What happens if we don''t win? Dwight will start his nonsense, we would be out a lot of money, and with no real talent to show for it. San Antonio and Memphis is proof that you don''t need superstars to win.

Special K, aren''t you a cereal? And yes, Batum is expensive, but I think he''s worth it. Why would you take someone who isn''t is as good, just for less money. Then why don''t we take the worst possible player and pay him the least possible amoun...
