PG Avery Bradley while I know that Bradley has settled into the SG role for the Celtics he was drafted as a combo guard and does a better job guarding point guards so he gets the nod at our PG position. After last team he might be untouchable in trade but he is certainly someone Portland would be wise to consider.

SG Iman Shumpert he is another tweener but with Jeremy Lin firmly entrenched at PG for the Knicks I see this as his long term position. He provided himself to be one the best perimeter defenders in the NBA this season and certainly deserved to be on the All-Defense second team more than Kobe. As long as he stays cheap do not look for the Knicks to be willing to part with him unless the other team is willing to eat Amare's massive salary.

SF Andre Iguodala nothing against Luol Deng who is a great defender but Iguodala gave up an 8.9 PER against and only a EFG% of 41% those are unbelievable numbers. Much better than Deng's 11.5 PER against and 46% opponent EFG%. The fact that he has only made the team once is a travesty. He can be had for the right price and should be someone Portland considers this off-season.

PF Taj Gibson He was a monster in the paint this season, he allowed a PER of 12.6 and his opponent to a shoot 40.4 EFG% his numbers in both categories are significantly better than Howard, Ibaka, Garnett, or Chandler. Coming off the bench is probably the reason for his exclusion. Portland could of had him for Rudy Fernandez in the past I hope we actually make the smart choice this summer and get one of the best young big men in the league.

C Omer Asik He was drafted years ago by the Blazers but thrived in limited minutes for the Bulls. Over the last two seasons his defensive rating is tied with Garnett and Howard at the top of the NBA. This season he allowed only a 43.3 EFG%. He won't give you anything on offense but his awesome 20.1 rebound rate and great post defense have the Bulls considering giving up Joakim Noah. He is a restricted FA and can be ours if the money is right.

Matchup PER doesn't work when considering the use of zones, switches on the P&R, and transition defense. Just saying...

Not exclusively but it a much better indicator than the often relied and vastly over rated steals rebounds and blocks.

True, but I think the best indicator is just watching basketball and a player's overall impact on the defensive end.

What about that camera triangulation trick? They can tell how well shots are contested... of course that would require sifting through days of video, and calculating each opponent's shot's level of contestedness (I know it's not a word).

Lol, no. Dwight Howard would be the absolute worst thing to ever happen to Portland, and no doubt my fellow message boarders will let you know why.

This past season the biggest problem was that we had 5 players that did the majority of the scoring for this team and the bench didn''t produce or defend at all.   This coming season the Blazers are going to need production from both the first...

Joakim Noah has had his injury troubles. His crazy game and high energy make him a constant injury threat. What separates him from Oden and Rose (I had to just mention him) is his willingness to play the way he loves.

Aldridge is not a diva. Dwight Howard is a diva. Allen Iverson was a diva. Kobe Bryant can be a diva at times.... LA is not a Center but he can play there at times if the situation demands it. If we have someone who can protect him inside then he ...

Ibaka is a much better everything since he was two years ago. He even has the sweetest nicknames since The Big Shamrock, Shaq Fu. I mean Serge Protector, Iblocka and Air Congo. Dope.
