The Blazers lost our first Summer League game tonight. Which is not really very concerning. The scores of the games are completely meaningless; going undefeated in Summer League is the exact same as going winless. What does matter, however, are the individual performances. The Blazers only have four players on their summer league roster that have a prayer of making the team: Jerryd Bayless, Dante Cunningham, Jeff Pendergraph, and Patty Mills. Mills, of course, broke his foot, so he will be overseas for a year or two before he joins the Blazers (if ever). But here's how The other three did: Dante Cunningham: had 21 pts to go along with 9 rbs. Shot well, but was inconsistent (8-17), but did make 5 of 6 freethrows. Jeff Pendergraph: He only had 12 pts, but also had 9 rbs. This is actually a better stat line than Cunningham's, as he was at Center the whole night and was being guarded by a 7 footer who has 10 pounds on him. Personally I feel that Pendergraph has the better chance of making the team than Cunningham due to his size and all-around versatility in being able to play and guard both the PF and C positions. Cunningham at 6'8", 230 is significantly smaller than Pendergraph at 6'10", 240. Bayless: the most impressive player on the court, he had 22 pts to go along with 7 ast, 4 rbs, a steal and 6 TOs. This is impressive for several reasons. First, he didn't show us anything new. We always knew he could score and rebound. Second, he DID show us something new: those 7 ast showed us that he is becoming an actual PG. But what is equally impressive are WHERE his pts came from. He only shot 7-17, 1-2 from 3-pt range. 7 of his pts came from the charity stripe, which is HUGE. Those 7 pts and 7 ast show that he is beginning to direct the offense, not just create his own shot. He can drive and dish and run the offense. While not a great performance, this is a VAST improvement over last year, when his whole mission in summer league was to score. The 6 TO's were to be expected. They came from a combination of not having a lot of options to pass to, this being his first game in nearly 3 months, playing with brand-new players, and the fact that this was his first game at the "pro" level playing all of his minutes being the primary PG where he has been asked to completely run the offense. He is smart enough, determined enough, and talented enough to make the transition to PG and be a solid backup for this year. As a side note, his AST-to-TO ratio and his shooting percentage will go through the roof when he is playing with the likes of Przybilla/Rudy/Webster/Batum/Roy/Aldridge/Oden.
I am a fan of B-Roy changing EVERYTHING.

    42 game $1,000,000 deal.

Option of earning an extra $500,000 - Oden must average 8+ PPG and 5+ RPG, or something along those lines.

That gives him incentive to play hard, low risk / high reward for the Blazers. I...
