The red flag that some NBA doctors have assigned to Ohio State prospect Jared Sullinger should become enough to keep the Portland Trail Blazers away. There is a growing concern for Sullinger's back, with some feeling that the issues he is having could end up shortening his NBA career. I think that with the recent injury problems the Blazers have experienced with Greg Oden and Brandon Roy that no consideration should get given to drafting Sullinger unless he falls to the second round.

Sullinger could possibly become a great NBA talent, especially if he can live up to the promise that many analysts saw from him at Ohio State University. It's possible that his talent could translate to stardom in the NBA, but now it also seems very possible that he could end up being a bust if those back issues continue to crop up. This is why the NBA has team doctors look at all prospects before the draft takes place, and those findings could end up causing him to plummet in the pre-draft rankings.

Sullinger averaged 17.5 points and 9.2 rebounds per game for the Buckeyes last season, shooting 51.9 percent from the field. He has always been a great rebounder, seemed pretty intelligent on the basketball court and has good instincts at both ends. There are issues that have come up as well, including that he seems a bit undersized at times and that his conditioning wasn't always up to par. Those are negatives that many players can overcome though, so it still looked like Sullinger would become a lottery pick as of last week.

I think that the Blazers really need to focus on getting a center and a point guard in the draft and that the team should not consider picking up Sullinger when he is still on the board at No. 11. Most NBA mock drafts have had Sullinger getting selected before that point, but it's also very possible that he could drop out of the first round after these medical revelations. Teams drafting late in the first round that already have a lot of depth could take a risk and come out on top with Sullinger, but I really think that he has become the type of risk that Portland has to avoid.

i definitely would not take sullinger at 11 but if it gets to the twenties and he still hasn't been called, i'd consider trading up for a pick to get him. we could use his rebounding ability and i'm not convinced this injury flag is a career ender.  he could just as easily have a productive career.  i'd be happy coming out of the draft with lillard, waiters, and sullinger.

Not sure I buy the philosophy.  Again, I'm a firm believer either you want a guy or you don't.  He's either worth a roster spot or he's not.  Whether he's taken at 11, or 20, the only point is that you get insurance before you pick him later, but that's pointless b/c you still assume the same risk and you still have to give him a paycheck.

The story I heard about Jared is that he has some tightness in his hammys or quads, and it's had some adverse effect on his back, but i heard he's doing yoga and deep tissue massages.

Jared only missed 2 games last year that I recall... maybe it was a bit longer, but he was fully functional and did real well in the ncaa tourney.  in fact his numbers were pretty steady all year, as were his minutes played.

every year there's some story about some dude being hurt and his stock drops.  same crap happened with dejuan blair when he came out and he's doin fine.  most times the red flags should be yellow; it's really unfair to jared.

But the bottom line to me is that Jared is nothing more than lamarcus aldridge or tim duncan.  Jared isn't a power shot blocker and he really didn't do a lot of banging in the paint last year.  In my opinion, his style is too much like L.A and we need more of a drummond type guy... drummond's faster, stronger, more athletic, and a much better shot blocker.   And I don't care if Jared's there at 25 or 50, I wouldn't take him.  you know jared lost weight after his freshman season and some thought he was less effective last year, he wasn't as impressive and his stock woulda been higher had he declared after his freshman season.   And finally, he wasn't even conference player of the year... that distinction went to Draymond Green, a guy I really hope might be available at 40 or 41, but more than likely, he'll be a late 1st... but if portland happens to trade down with boston to go after harkless, i hope they get both their picks and consider Green with one of 'em.

Avoiding both Sullinger and Drummond is both advisable and easy...just stay away from the Crispy Creme locals

Some team is going to get the steal of the draft in Sullinger. While I wouldn't use a lottery pick on him, if he's still around in the twenties, I would be thrilled to buy back into the first round and take him. At that late in the draft, its all reward, very little risk.

The problem with JJ remains the same at the 4 or 5 he is just not a good enough defender. Milsap and especially Smith are good defenders. The also both offer more on the offensive side than JJ does.

Exactamundo. Seriously though, both of you''ll are right. The blame should be placed on the attacker, not Lillard. That being said, Dame should have stepped in.

Sanders is 6''11" Cailin he is about 5 pounds lighter than LA so his size should not be an issue.

I completely agree. Pierce would bring a culture change. And we as a team really needed someone to help our young players through the tough times. Jeffires and Pavlovic were veterans who didn''t see much court time and from what I saw didn''t real...

Joakim Noah has had his injury troubles. His crazy game and high energy make him a constant injury threat. What separates him from Oden and Rose (I had to just mention him) is his willingness to play the way he loves.
