The Portland Trail Blazers could potentially go after point guard Ramon Sessions when the NBA free agency period finally begins. Sessions becomes another option on the open market after it got revealed that the will be opting out of his current contract with the Los Angeles Lakers. I think that he becomes a very interesting option for the Blazers, especially because the team has so much room available under the current salary cap to work with.

It was the Los Angeles Times that first broke the news that Sessions is choosing not to exercise his player option with the Lakers. He now joins a large group of point guards available in free agency, but might become a steal as other teams focus in on Deron Williams and Steve Nash. I think it is still very possible that Sessions goes back to the Lakers, especially if that team is unsuccessful in finding another player that works well with Kobe Bryant.

I thought Sessions did really well with the Lakers after getting acquired from the Cleveland Cavaliers during this past NBA season. He bumped up his averages to 12.7 points and 6.2 assists per game, playing heavy minutes for the Lakers down the stretch. Two numbers that I really like the best from him are his 47.9 shooting percentage and his 48.6 percent success from three-point range. Those are exactly the type of numbers that the Blazers could use at the point guard slot for the 2012-13 NBA season and beyond.

I am not ready to include Sessions in the top-tier of point guards in the league and I don't think that he is going to get to that point either. I do think that he is a good player though, with skills as a distributor that would work very well in Portland. As a pass first player, he would make the trio of LaMarcus Aldridge, Nicolas Batum and Wesley Matthews better. That is what I think that the Blazers really need in the offseason and if they are unsuccessful at grabbing someone like Damian Lillard in the 2012 NBA Draft, I hope that the front office spends some serious time looking at Sessions.

Always happy to hear someone doesn't like the Lakers, but would he really be our best option out there for pg? Alot out there like you said and I don't know if I consider 6.2 assists/game really much of a pass-first pg. When we have all these assets, I think it would be a shame not to shoot for someone a little more top-tier.
I am a fan of BLAZER BASKETBALL. Not drafts, not business, not trades, not David Stern. Just BLAZER BASKETBALL.

Not two months. It wasn''t a major injury, X rays came back positive. I know he played because we had no one who could replace him, and that was admirable, but it simply does not take that long. When he had a good game, he said my wrist felt good....

Yeah I was one of them *blushes*. I was never a diehard fan of basketball until the 2011-2012 postseason. I could name every team, but I always forgot two. Kings and Blazers.

Yeah, he was tripping with that Scottie Pippen reference. Nowhere as good as him, BUUUTTT, I think he can be, if he plays like a man. In Euroleague, you are taught more about finesse, and the fundamentals. He needs to put a little more muscle on, ...

I think what Stotts is doing is superb. His plays are great. I remember the only play he ever called for Meyers Leonard, against the Bobcats. Great movement, got LMA a good mid range look, got Batum a decent three look and the got Meyers way down ...
