Before I start saying anything let me first say this. I am a huge fan of Lamarcus Aldridge.

    Now....

When has a team with a power forward as their main, and basically only player? Im not talking about teams like the Spurs with Tim Duncan because really he has Tony Parker and Manu and all sorts of very good role players, but look at players like Chris Bosh. Bosh was a very good individual player in Toronto when he was basiaclly the only player on the team, yet the team had little success. Another one is Dirk. Well if anyone can be the exception to this it is him althogh C'mon he plays like a huge Shooting guard. When Dirk won his championship he had Tyson Chandler, and Future hall of fame player Jason kidd plus a great 6th man in Jason Terry. Now im not taking anything away from any of these guys its more of the position they play which is power foward. Honestly unless your name is Dirk you cant create to many shots as a power forward. If the Blazers had another guy, another weapon you could say that we can give the ball to and he can create a shot for himself, or he gets double teamed and creates something for another player I really believe that the blazers could be elite. One more little observation... Look at the teams in the playoffs still, have your seen why they are all similar? The heat have lebron wade and bosh, OKC has Durant, Westbrook, Harden and even Ibaka, and the Celtics have Rondo, KG, Pierce, and even Ray Allen. They all have mutliple weapons that have different skills that all come together to make an elite team.

So after all that what do the blazers need to do? Get multiple guys like a 3 point specialist, a good defender, a "slasher", but if they have more than ONE guy that will equal more success for the Blazers.

Not an elite team? We'd have an even higher draft pick if a bunch of other teams weren't tanking for better rookies. We're not anywhere close to being a mighty team. We're a bad team that struggles against other bad teams.

    Haha, no not even.
Garnett in min lost in the first round, or didn't make
It to the playoffs in all except one year where they somehow got to the
    West finals.

You must have forgot that last year at the start of training camp AFTER the draft we had Roy,Oden,Wallace, and L.A. this is the team that was planned for. My personal belief is that it was bad knee's and bad luck is the reason why we are not an elite team. Unless some miracle happens it will be 2-3 years before we become an elite team.

To be an elite team you need to be elite at something. From all the rumors I have heard this off-season, Portland will never become elite with LA.

    Here is why:
    1. We cannot afford D. Williams so to avoid the aging veterans Portland is likely sign G. Dragic.  Goran is a nice big PG who can score and pass. He is not a good defender and he is very turnover prone. He would be a nice piece on a playoff team but should not be expected to lead a team to a NBA title.

    2. We have no penetration, elite teams get to the free throw line Miami has Lebron 8.1 attempts per game during the regular season and Wade 6.1 with Bosh at an okay 4.9. OKC has Durant 7.6, Westbrook 6.3, and Harden 6.0. Miami's best 3 was attempted 19.1 a game, OKC's 19.9. Portland's LA 5.0,  Crawford 3.4 who is now gone, and Batum 2.7. That is 10.1 or around 7 points less per game at the line.

    3. We play lousy team defense. Even when we had better defenders in G. Wallace, and M. Camby our team was still slow in rotating and went under far too many picks. Portland could not double team at all because of these poor rotations because they led to wide open three point attempts. Batum played better defense last season but as our alleged best defender Portland is in trouble. Boston has Garnett, Bradley, Rondo, and Pierce who are all better defenders than Batum. Chicago has Rose, Deng, Gibson, and Noah who are all better. Portland needs to target elite defenders and continue to have people like Batum and Matthews get better.

I like how you blame LaMarcus for our inability to surround him with talent. Think back two years, with Miller running the point and Batum, Rudy, and Matthews hitting threes, LA was a beast. Teams would front him, double him, load up on his side, it didnt matter. Miller would put it up for him or Rudy would do that BEAUTIFUL running pick-and-roll. LA was unstoppable, I really believe he would have made the allstar team if Love didnt have that 30-30 game. On a good team with complimentary players, LA was one of the most dominant big men in the game today.

@foul I am not sure I remember that version of Rudy, the one I recall would over dribble and launch terrible turn around jumpers and couldn't hit a shot to save his life in the playoffs. LA was great but you cannot hand him the ball 30 feet from the hoop and let him get his own shot. Dirk is able to that and I think that was the distinction.

Out of Miller, Matthews, and rudy which of those players was an elite compliment to LA? Im not saying that Lamarcus is not capeable of being the best player on the team but to me you have to put one or 2 guys around them at all star level even if they aren't chosen to be all stars like a tony parker and you need to be able to have a solid second option. What happens when LA gets tripled teamed in the post and throws it to a role player for a game winning shot? Obiously because he shouldnt and never is in that situation he will miss 8 out of 10 times. So really if we had 1 player to compliment LA to stretch the D and to be a good scorer we would be much better. But really the end of last year was a joke and this is a reason why we lost that Clipper game we had 1 option to go to which at the time was jj hickson because he dropped like 30. But we didnt have a guard to create and make his own shot at the end of the game.

Okay, I''ll admit it, I like Asik better. I definitely think they will both have very good careers. And finally, someone who agrees, that Ibaka is a  shot blocker, not really a great defender.

Henson will be solid down the road but his ceiling is more like Taj Gibson. He is a great role player but not elite like Sanders and Ibaka could be if people were not so willing to shoot on him.
