Neil Olshey Named Trail Blazers General Manager
“Neil is someone we’ve had on our radar for quite a while,” said Miller. “Over the past two seasons he has demonstrated success in constructing a roster, managing salary cap and evaluating player talent. We feel very fortunate to have him in Portland and are thrilled about what this means for the future.”
Under Olshey’s direction, the Clippers transitioned into a playoff team this past season after he assembled one of the deepest rosters in the NBA prior to the 2011-12 season. During a six-day span, Olshey added Chris Paul, Caron Butler and Chauncey Billups while re-signing DeAndre Jordan to a team that already featured Blake Griffin, Mo Williams and Eric Bledsoe.
“I am very grateful for the opportunity to become a part of this successful franchise,” said Olshey. “Portland is a great basketball city with a rich tradition, an incredible fan base and committed leadership. I’m joining an organization that has a strong foundation and a bright future. I couldn’t be more excited and I’m ready to hit the ground running.”

So, with that said, how are you feeling about this GM hire, Rip City? Are you excited? Or are you going to take a wait and see approach? Sound off!

GREAT HIRE! He will do what's best for the team as long as Paul Allen and Larry Miller let him do his job. He did great things for LAC even if you take away the awesome trade for CP3. I don't think he can pull something like that off for us right away, but all the other additions were great adds by him.

I love it.  If he could deal with Donald Sterling who pinches pennies like they were the last pennies on earth, then working for Paul Allen and Larry Miller will be a breeze.  His first job is to hire Jerry Sloan.

I really like the roster he assembled this year for the Clippers. He made a strong push to get CP3, signed Kenyon Martin during the season, added Billups via the amnesty clause, and also got Nick Young for next to nothing.

I think Portland's just happy to have an GM, but from what I hear, this guy was up for Executive of the Year and turned the clips around.  He obviously has an eye for talent.  Not sure if he was there when Blake Griffin was drafted, I loved Blake in college and compared him to a mix of morph of Jordan and King James.  but he was there when Paul was brought in and that's what Portland needs... a guy who can improve our team, build for the future, and fill needs.  I sent a tweet earlier welcoming him to Portland :)  sounds like a great move.  Now he just needs to hire me to help in this year's draft.

I would be thinking that the first thing he will do is get a coach. It will probably tells us a little about him there. I would think that he would have an idea about that now and already start making phonecalls in the next few days. He can unpack later he has work to do...ALOT of work. Welcome to Blazer Basketball.

He proved this season that he was far from gun-shy, and that's huge for the Blazers. We hold onto so many pieces and fail to improve our team so often, I hope to see some bold moves from Olshey. He is starting out in a difficult situation, though. He probably won't be able to find a coach before the draft, and without a coach there is no system upon which a GM can build. So draft day deals may not be in the cards. I don't expect him to rush the hiring of a new coach since his first move could make or break him as a GM.

Olshey seems to possess the necessary skills to be a successful GM in this league given the current landscape.  The man strikes me as someone who could sell a bride in her wedding dress a ketsup sandwich.  That said, ofcourse time will tell.  I'm with kenny.

Hawes will be a hot commodity by the trade deadline, I would think the sixers could find a better offer.

However, I do believe Mo Williams could have somewhat of  a high trade value. Olshey needs to make a deal to get a big man while we...
