    1. Back on the market: It appears Jerry Sloan really is serious about coaching again.

The former Jazz coach has been linked to two openings this week, and the reports didn't come from anonymous sources, but rather, directly from Sloan himself.

Sloan told FoxSports.com's Chris Tomasson that he would be interested in the Orlando Magic job that came open this week when the team fired Stan Van Gundy.

"Yes, I think so," Sloan told Tomasson. "It would be very intriguing. But they would have to be interested in me."

It would be a fascinating dynamic -- Sloan working with Dwight Howard. You can't imagine Sloan, even at 70, taking much guff from Howard.

Even more surprising, Sloan is also exploring the idea of taking the Charlotte Bobcats job, he tells the Salt Lake Tribune's Steve Luhm. Sloan says he has spoken to Bobcats owner Michael Jordan and could meet with Jordan as early as this week.

Sloan tells Luhm he is not deterred by just how big the job of rebuilding the Bobcats -- who set a NBA record for worst winning percentage this past season -- appears to be.

"Obviously, you probably wouldn’t win [a championship] right off the bat," he said. "But sometimes it’s not all about starting on top."

Sloan told Tomasson that he is not actively pursuing jobs, but will listen to those who call. It makes you think about the Blazers, who, as The Oregonian's Jason Quick wrote this morning, have gone exactly one year without a permanent general manager. Should Portland really wait to hire a GM first if the third-winningest coach in NBA history is available?

"I don’t have an agent," Sloan told Tomasson. "I don’t need for anybody to talk for me. If somebody calls me, I will listen."

If Sloan is interested, the Blazer organization would be stupider than they have been, not to pursue him.

Agreed, I really do not see a sense of urgency to get this done before the draft.  10-1 we go into next seaon with Chad Buchanan and Kaleb still holding the interim Titles.

Paul Allen has had a year to fill the GM Role and he could have hired Sloan right after he fired Nate.

I do not understand.  Look how agressively he went after Pete Carroll in Seattle for his other Toy.

CALL SLOAN NOW!  We need/want him here (after he's hired, THEN get a GM; draft is coming VERY soon so hire Sloan 10 min. ago!)! He will get the most out of ALL our players & players won't b out of line bc he's a no-nonsense coach that commands respect.  He's a good guy & he was a tough player; IF there's any amount of "soft" in a team... he'll get rid of it :)  We've gotta start a campaign to show him how much we want him here!  Sloan!  Sloan!  Sloan!

Wesley would definitely benefit from Sloan being hired. He was the one i believe that went after an undrafted Matthews. Lamarcus would definitely have to elevate his defensive game too. Sloan doesnt condone slackers.

Yeah I get tired of Larry Miller saying we are not going to change the process just because someone great comes along.  That is what we need in Portland is a nonsense BS coach who will get players to get thier game to the next level.

As I said above I would give 10 to 1 odds that Canales and Buchanan are still in the same position on Draft Day and Paul Allen and Larry Miller who think they know how to evaluate talent are running the draft.

Sorry, but I am committed to the Truth with these guys.

    Larry Miller has to go.

I just posted on another link he has no Pro Sports Franchise experience at all other than the Blazers.  He is a Bean Counter (Sorry all you Accountants) and a Process Man.

Jerry Sloan is a must hire if possible. This is a coach that does more with less than anyone in NBA history! He makes point guards and power forwards stars and got to the NBA finals against Jordan and the Bulls twice with Greg Ostertag as the center! That alone says it all. He's also the perfect guy to bring Kaleb into the head coaching position a few years down the road. Of all the available veteran coaches, he's the crown jewel. Hire the man!

Certainly nothing wrong with hiring Sloan except I think signing him would put to much pressure on the team to enter win now mode which could really hurt us in the future

cmeese, I disagree. Sloan is exactly the type of coach who would reject any pressure of winning now and he would get in the heads of the players to make sure they know it is a rebuilding situation and that they dont have to go to the finals in 2013. Van Gundy, I think, would be more of a risk in terms of bringing that pressure.

If some can't handle the pressure then they don't belong here in the first place.

Sloan would be the only name out there that I would be for hiring as head coach before they hire a GM

I think it is unrealistic to think without major changes (excluding the weak FA class) that we can contend for a title next season

Yeah and now Blazers have zero interest in Bynum. I really thought he was worth the small risk. If anything he would be at the end of our bench and we use him as a sub. Hopefully we do make some type of trade for a quality back up center. Right no...
