Nolan smith over Kenneth Faried... Really...who ever is evaluating the draft talent is wrong person! Years of poor choices. The players they have draft over many of the past years have really been poor. Wrong fits for this team not ever good choices for the needs of the team.

It was a poor choice then on draft night and it looks downright atrocious with each passing day. Let's not even take BPA into consideration (Faried was projected early 20's, Smith late 1st/early 2nd). We needed a backup power forward. After we let Juwan walk in free agency and traded Cunningham/Przybilla for Wallace, we did not even have a backup for LA. Also, we had Armon Johnson already in place. I'm not saying he's any better or worse then Nolan but the fact he we had players at that position. If we really were hell bent on drafting Nolan Smith we could have just done so using our 2nd round pick or traded up in the draft. It was considered a weak draft and teams' were in a hurry to deal away their picks..heck we were able to deal Rudy for a late 1st! Unfortunately this is not the first time Portland has messed up the obvious choice, just 3 years ago we passed on DeJaun Blair three times!!!

Faried should be a Blazer. But hey, the Nuggets are doing terrific with him, so it's a big boost for his career. But weird things do happen all the time in the draft. David Lee, you know, that big guy that made the All-Star team and plays really good for the Golden State Warriors? Ya ...he was drafted #30.

I am going to go back to 2005 when Portland took Martell Webster over Andrew Bynum or failed to trade up for CP3 or Williams. Imagine if Portland has selected Bynum?

In 2006, we select Aldridge and Roy. Then in 2007 with Bynum already on the team we could take Durant.

    Just Imagine
    Roy
    Aldridge
    Durant
    and Bynum

That team has the look of NBA champs.

Wondering if PA has partial ownership in Denver.  Ty Lawson and Manimal were both shunned on draft day and landed in Denver...a team still playing.  Both players with their skill sets would be filling Portland's most glaring needs, and both many here (including myself) pushed for on these boards.  This franchise would have a completely different outlook had just those two decisions been made

The draft is an untamed animal... few #1 picks are worth talking about, and many 2nd round or undrafted players end up making huge contributions. To me, it says that a lot of scouts are doing it wrong. I don't really know who I like in the draft this year (I didn't catch much college ball), but I think our philosophy should be this: whomever the staff is telling you to take, pick the other guy. Seriously. Or we could make our picks, then systematically trade for all the players chosen one pick behind ours. Maybe I'm just TOO superstitious at this point, but I don't expect us to solve any problems with the draft. I expect 29 teams to improve their roster, and I expect the Blazers to add dead weight to an struggling team. Am I bitter? Yeah... I'm really freaking bitter.

The problem is too many scouts don't do their job. They listen to ESPN and take what they hear as gospel. Analize the players you have scouted all year and evaluate them on your own standard of merit ranking from 1-100 in several categories based on position played, then use those numbers for draft order preference. I would like the job of college talent scout for the Blazers if there is a open position. (I need 75k a year + expenses.) Which is a lot less then they currently pay and I could not do worse then was done last year. This year I would like to see us draft Beal by trading up with the #7 and #40 or #41 to get the #4 pick, Rivers with #11, and Melo or Leonard or sims with #21 or #22 from Boston or whomever of the three is there at #40 or #41. Sign and trade Batum and trade Matthews to Boston for Rondo and pick #21 or #22. Sign JJ Hickson. Then look to free agency to fill the roster. Consider trades for 2013 first round picks from the teams we think will be at the bottom of the league next year as the draft class next year will be very good at the top. so if we cannot trade for Rondo, trade Batum and Matthews for first rounders+ to Cleveland, Detroit, Phoenix, Toronto, Chicago..... Yes I said Chicago, Rose is out 9-12 months.

The reason why there has been an abundance of poor draft choices is due to the lack of an actual GM. Portland has not had a real GM since Bob Whitsett nor have they been a real contender since then. (and yes, I know he started the whole jailblazers thing.)

I like Paul Allen and he has done great things for the Blazers and I hope he owns the Blazers for many years to come. But until he realizes that a GM is responsible for putting together a team and not himself then Portland will be stuck in the same rut.

I'm all for not overspending on players but get a good GM. GM's and coaches don't count towards a teams salary cap. I believe Pat Riley is the highest paid GM at somewhere between 3-4 million per year. That is nothing, come on Paul, slap down 5,6,7 million, or whatever it takes to a big name GM and put this team in the right direction.

All I can say is that we can't mess this up this time around. We've been given a golden opportunity to rebuild quite quickly with the possibility of two lottery picks in the most heralded draft class in about five years. When rebuilding, it doesn't get much sweeter than that. But we've got to make these picks count. No singles..we need extra bases with these rooks!

Cmeese, his year would''ve been better without the injury, if he could maintain the first half of the year production that''d be great. But I have to agree that his contract is a little too much. I think he should really be worth around 8 mil.

Yeah sorry man, but if I''m an Orlando fan I''m looking forward for 5 years down the line, especially for the development of Tobias Harris and Mo Harkless, both could breakout, but I''m more excited to see Tobias Harris.

Exactamundo. Seriously though, both of you''ll are right. The blame should be placed on the attacker, not Lillard. That being said, Dame should have stepped in.

I completely agree. Pierce would bring a culture change. And we as a team really needed someone to help our young players through the tough times. Jeffires and Pavlovic were veterans who didn''t see much court time and from what I saw didn''t real...
