The Oregonian is reporting that Brandon Roy wants to commit to a five year contract with Portland, and that the management only wants to commit to a four year deal and that is why they haven't signed his extension yet.

I love the job KP has been doing on this team, however Remove head from a** then give Brandon what he wants so long as he stays happy and at home in Portland. We are lucky that a player of his current and future level wants to commit to the city and team for the longest contract that the rules allow. Give him is 16.4 million a year, He is worth it, and be thankful he didn't want 19.5.

What Brandon Roy wants, he should get. Same with L-Train. They are the backbone of the team and were a huge part of taking us from one of the worst records in the league to 54 wins this season. Not only are they both fantastic players, but they are also great human beings, who with this team have erased almost all memory of the dark Jail Blazer period in the cities history.

Sign them both up for five and thank them for their commitment.

I couldn't agree more. First we get shunned by a guy who says this city isn't comso enough for him, now you have one of the top 10 players in the league wanting to stay here for as long as he can, and you DON'T sign him immediately? WTF!?!?! KP has lost his mind or something. I really think that jurkeyglue thing screwed him up. I mean why would you not give Brandon max years? That's stupid. Same with LaMarcus. If you truly believe these guys are the pillars of our team, then sign them!!!!!

KP is losing my confidence every day. It seems like he's just reaching now trying to do something so it looks like this offseason isn't a failure. You know what would make this offseason not a failure, locking up BROY and LaMarcus to long-term deals. If we get that done, free agency and the draft be damned, it was a good offseason. But if we go into the season with both LaMarcus and Brandon unsigned we're screwed. Like your motto says, MAKE IT BETTER and lock up our pillars!!!!!
I am a fan of this team. Here's to hoping for a healthy season!!!

The whole thing sounds like a bunch of BS to me honestly, just a way to stir up some drama while nothing else is going on. It doesnt sound like KP or Roy to me but again im not there so idk what is or isnt going on but there is no way he wouldnt lock them up which is why im calling BS on this story.
You dont see any of this reported ANYWHERE else and generally something like this would be up everywhere as soon as it was reported. It just doesnt make sense to me

I'm not buying this. Why wouldn't KP want to sign Roy for as long as possible? He is THE future of this team! Only thing I can think of is if Roy wanted a year or two to be player-options and they didn't want to take that route.

Whatever he wants, give it to him. Bottom line!

Yeah, I have to say if it is true, it is ONLY because they don't want to commit longer term based on the economic situation. You see, anyone who has had basic economics knows that there is a 4 year turnaround on any actions. This whole recession we are going through is due to decisions from the MIDDLE of the Bush Administration. We won't see many of Obama's decisions take affect on the economy until close to the next election. So, in four years, Portland may be able to sign Brandon to MORE money if Obama has made good changes, or they may be screwed at what they sign him to if they go 5 years. This is what Paul Allen and Kevin Pritchard are looking at. They will have to re-sign Oden in another year, then Rudy, Bayless, and Batum. If you are looking four years down the road the NBA could be in a dangerous state. Due to Salary reasons, the 3BA might become the new popular sport. I think if Brandon and LA want 5 year deals, fine, but they need to not be as greedy on the amount. It should be about championships, not money. From a guy who is struggling to get by... $7million dollars per year isn't enough? Really? Not to say I don't understand the aspect of how much the owner makes and yadda yadda yadda, but seriously? I could live pretty happy for 10 years off 1 million dollars, let a lone 7 million EACH YEAR. Again, I hope that story is hogwash because I don't want to think of Brandon and LA, nor KP and the Blazers in "that light." But if it is true, in the words of the Godfather, " I mean, come ON."

Yeah, Quick has been known to jump the gun on assumptions.  I don't believe that KP and the Blazers organization is second guessing Roy or trying to "nickel and dime him."  I just think they are in a position at the moment where they are trying to find a free agent and it has been more frustrating for them than they thought and it has taken concentration off of Roy and Aldridge.  The mistake was made when Roy and LA weren't taken care of first.  That should have been the Blazers #1 priority this summer.  Instead, they have gone after and gotten screwed on every free agent they've talked to.  If I were KP I would pull back the reigns on the free agent market, take care of Roy (max out) and take care of LA.  Then do a sign and trade or just a trade with a team this summer and not worry about spending more money.  It will happen.  Roy and LA WANT to be Blazers and that is the most important thing.

I agree with you in principal, the problem being is that the NBA operates on obscene salaries, and while 7 million a year is an astounding amount in and of its self its barley past mid level for a decent NBA player. If Portland wants to keep its top rung players we are going to have to pay for them. Plain and simple. Is it Redonkulous that people who put a ball/puck threw a hoop/net make 100x more than a doctor or an EMT yes, it is. But that is the world we live in, and there is a market for what they are selling that is willing to pay them that much to do it.

If we want to compete we have to pay players like Roy and LA at least what they would get from another team.

The stories also been picked up by ESPN now, I don't have insider but they are reporting on the stalled talks from their rumor center.

There is another perspective into this. I'm pretty sure that KP wants to retain Roy for as long as possible. However the deal signed should benefit the team in the long term. The goal isn't to sign him for 4 years and letting him go but rather signing him for 4 years and resigning him afterwards. There are cap issues and future FA expectations that need to be considered. I think KP wants to structure the deal to give us the best chance for the future.

Paul is willing to spend the money and if the press was telling the truth he's willing to spend 'as much as needed'. Roy will get his share but just like the deal Lebron got from Cleveland, the goal is to get in the best position possible. That's what KP is trying to do.

This story IS NOT FAKE PEOPLE!!! Brandon Roy was on the Softy show today talking about his dissatisfaction with the situation. So don't just discard this topic, Brandon isn't happy.

From the sounds of it, KP isn't involved in the contract negotiations. It sounds like Vulcan Inc. is handling this, which means that this isn't a basketball decision being made, it's a money decision. The CEO of Vulcan came onto Canzano's show and said "we have a 2 year goal to break even on the Blazers." Really?!?!? For 2 decades they overpaid garbage wife beating pot smoking players. Now that you have your first franchise player on and off the court since Clyde you try to low ball him? This has become about money straight up, don't kid yourself.

As for the 4 year cycles you are right RIPCITY that in the normal world economics flow in a 4 year cycle, but at the same time major sports leagues do not run on 4 year cycles. Actually I should say, teams that are serious about winning championships in major sports leagues don't run on 4 year cycles. If you're an owner of a sports team, you shouldn't be in it to make money because you're gonna be lucky to break even. You should be in it to win championships, and you do that by locking up your best players for as long as you can. Look what happened with LeBron and Cleveland, he signed a 3 or 4 year deal, then for half that contract the talk has been "oh he signed that short contract so he can opt out and go to New York." Do you really want to sign Brandon to a short contract and have 2 years of "oh Roy signed this short contract so he can leave" talk? No. Lock him up for as long as you can. Get this deal done, and get Brandon out there helping to recruit free agents. Like he said on the Softy show "I didn't help recruit Hedo to 5 years here because I only have 1 year left on my deal." LOCK HIM UP PORTLAND!!!!

oh my god. you guys need to chill the fuck out about this... none of you have a clue about what is actually going on here. Its going to be done, Roy will be Blazer so for the love of god calm down. I realize things this offseason havent gone exactly how everyone wanted so now this is being blown way out of proportion.
Im so sick of everyone assuming they know better than KP or anyone else or that they somehow know exactly whats going down.. because you dont. I dont either but i never assume i do. Everyone just take a deep breath and relax

    I couldnt agree more!
Our young team just is going on the right way.
Look, our player list is so good, and even perfect!
What we need to do is keep these player in our team, and of course I wouldnt refuse to collect one power inside player, one tough defender in small forward, one commander in defensive.
B-Roy is our soul of the team,we can even lost Oden, but not Roy.What he want now is fair and he worthy it!
    So,give him what he want,plz!

"Pritchard also addressed a report in Thursday's Oregonian newspaper that talks negotiations on contract extensions for franchise cornerstones Roy and forward LaMarcus Aldridge have stalled."

"It's amicable," he said. "We plan to make it amicable. More importantly, Brandon and LaMarcus will be here for a long time."

they have to at least pretend like they're fighting with roy, otherwise when they re-sign batum, fernandez, bayless and oden they'll all pretty much automatically expect big contract. Otherwise, they'll wonder if the team cares about them less and doesn't worry as much about keeping them

So if its for the sake of the future of this franchise, and retaining its rising stars, then fake negotiate with roy as much as you need to
