It's great to see that the Blazers have so many options, even now that some of the big name FA are off the board. I know some people are still hurting over the Hedo debacle, but I really think the Blazers would be better off spending their money on a player (or players) who can actually play some defense, since scoring didn't seem to be a problem for this team last year. An option some are suggesting is that we stand pat and try to land a big FA next off-season, which is possible if you add up the salaries, subtract Joel (who I love but will probably leave, IF Oden starts playing up to his potential and staves off injury.) But when you look at the list of FA in 2010, who would we pick up. Lebron is going to a big market, probably NYC. That leaves a whole bunch of great players that are either SG, PF or are too old to fit the Blazers timeline. If I just figured this out, KP probably knew it last year some time (or earlier.) To me, this means we might as well spend that cap money now to get a player that is young enough to still have something in the tank in a couple of years when our championship window realistically opens, about the time that B-Roy and Lamarcus are 28-30. That means no Andre Miller. Unfortunately, we may have to wait and see about Bayless and hope he becomes a true PG. I personally like the idea of trading for Tayshaun Prince, a great defender with a championship ring and who's not too old. It would be nice to keep Batum so that he could learn from a player with a similar physique and skill set, but you have to give something to get something. I like Travis as a person, but I'd rather see him get traded because the ceiling for Batum is much higher. Bass or Millsap would be nice pickups at the backup PF spot, as long as their price tag is reasonable. Regardless, I'm going to cheer for whoever is wearing the black and red next year, so we'll just have to hope that things work out for the best and KP is able to show that he's the whole package, not just a draft day specialist.

I disagree with you on Joel. I think he will take whatever contract the Blazers can afford and stay on as a back up center. He is the kind of guy who cares more about winning than he does about money. In that sense, he is the best guy on the team. He could have taken more money a couple years ago to play for San Antonio. He opted not to and to stay here in Portland for a smaller contract. He seems like the kind of guy who feels like Portland gave him a shot when he almost had been played out of the league. The city embraced him, his home is here and this is where his loyalties lie, and I hope it stays that way. Channel 8 news just reported that J. Quick is saying Portland is willing to make a "Hefty" offer to Paul Millsap, one so big that it would stave off other prospective teams. He also reported that the Blazers are still courting Brandon Bass. We will see how this all turns out.

I agree with Ripcity about joel, he would be more than happy to stay as the back up for Oden when the time came. He knows thats the plan eventually and still wants to be here regardless of the money, hes a team player through and through. He wants to do whatever it takes to help this team win.
Now asfar as this while Millsap thing, i like the guy hes a tough, hes a good rebounder and would be a great back up.. however i would just be worried about how minutes would pan out. LA is our starter there is no question about that and is going to need atleast 33-35+ minutes a night. Millsap is gonna want atleast 20+ if not a lot more.. which would be hard to do given the situation. I dont see him accepting a minor role in the rotation and i dont see LA liking his minutes cut for him to get it.
Who knows if it will happen so im not gonna worry about it much now, a lot of things could happen in the next couple of days so thats kinda exciting. Regardless of what does happen ill assume KP/Nate have a plan and just accept it and be happy to be a Blazer fan like i always do!

What I would see happening is some of those minutes, LA would be playing the 5 in a smaller lineup with Millsap at the 4. Similar to other lineups they used this last year. Now, I also just read on 955thegame.com that the Mavs signed Shawn Marion. This shows that they aren't really going to try and keep Brandon Bass as their back up 4 because they are spending all their capspace on Marion and Kidd. I can't imagine after those they have much, if any, left. I know Portland isn't the only other team in the running, but most of the interested contenders have already filled those positions. SA-McDyess, Boston-Wallace, Denver-Birdman. I think Portland has a good shot at him IF he wants a championship. Millsap, he might be loyal to Jerry Sloan and therefore could choose Utah no matter what Portland offers, Bass has moved around enough to not have those ties. Millsap is a product of the Sloan System, Bass is a product of the NBA Business, two different perspectives on the NBA. It is still pretty safe to say that Bass most likely will not be a Maverick which makes it a little easier for Portland.

Not to mention cheaper and willing to accept that backup role. I kinda wanna see what Pendergraph does in summer league however because i think he could help in that PF spot aswell. I realize most ppl want a proven guy seeing as we're eyeing championships now, which i understand 100%. Still a part of me just wants to see what he can do and maybe be that guy we're looking for. Ive followed him some while watching NCAA/Duck games so i know the guy can play and he plays hard all the time, he could potentially be a Bass type player. Downside being hes a rookie and unproven at the NBA lvl. Suppose we'll see what happens with FA and Summer league and go from there.

Not DPOY. All American. Player of the year in his conference twice. Past four years, McCollum, Muscala, McCollum, Muscala.

sign Iggy for 8-9M, Batum at the two, and Wesley off the bench! Draft Steven Adams (who loves contact, grew up playing rug-bee). Sounds NICE!

Im not impressed with Gortat. Everyone wants him but he seems mediorcre to me. He is the most realistic option since all it would take is the 10th pick, but I think he is old and declining.
