When did this happen? Why does the front page of the Blazer site now look like it's a Facebook-style page?

Web-Designer: Why change the format of the page? Was that really something you thought was a priority? What about the numerous complaints we've mentioned before about the chat-window in the TBTV chats (the window for viewing comments is WAY too small, you can hardly read a single comment before it's pushed out of view, and there's a huge waste of space right below it where poll questions and facebook links are posted, we've talked in the chat on multiple days that this needs to be adjusted)? Justin was even nice enough to try and adjust what he could himself on a few occasions, but the point remains that this is a design problem that needs to be addressed, and ALOT more needed than changing the color and look of the homepage.

The new look on the homepage, with the blocky, white section and rectangular images all squished together on one side, LOOKS HORRIBLE and CHEAP. The older look for the same section was aesthetically superior (and more professional looking) by far! Plus on the old look, it had that great feature that as you move your mouse over the different topics they would pop to the foreground a bit. Now, the new white section just looks like a simple done-in-5-minutes blogger page.

And then below that, instead of having the columns of blogs from Barrett, Rice, Sarah and the rest... IT LOOKS LIKE FACEBOOK. Seriously, this is an unnecessary, unfocused and UGLY change. IF you are professional web designer, I've gotta believe that you can do better.

Anyone disagree? Does anyone out there actually LIKE the new look to the homepage? Or am I right that this seems like a completely useless change that is doing nothing but making my favorite homepage seem less familiar?

I will be in favor of any changes if it gets more people into message boards and responding to blogs

Cmeese I get what you're sayin about the more people posting on here and on the blogs the better, but does making the homepage look like a facebook page really help at all? I mean, if it's a marketing thing, then the only audience that I can see this having a positive effect on is marketing more towards a younger, facebook-based crowd... but what good does it do? Are people REALLY going to look at the homepage and say "it's no longer a black background, and now it looks more like my social media pages that I spend time on, I've never posted on here before but NOW I'm interested!"

...yeah right dude. This is not going to draw more people in. The only people who will post on the forums and blogs are viewers who are already Blazer Fans, and who have something to discuss. I don't see how this change will help draw in more fans, and it certainly doesn't magically give more access to discussions. Honestly, the only change I can see this affecting would be making current Blazer Fans, who visit the site frequently, feel less comfortable and familiar with a homepage that they've grown accustomed to. Is there really any advantage to doing a visual 180 on a page whose primary purpose should be recognition from fans?

Just saying, not only was a homepage facelift a completely unnecessary change for the site, but it looks UGLY and unprofessional. Not only do I not see the advantage, but it bothers me that whoever made the decision "redesign the homepage, not the whole site just the homepage" must really think that it's important for some abstract reason... which means they are not focusing on any of the other issues that must be addressed, such as the ones that fans/viewers actually complain about (i.e. the chat window parameters). When the franchise is going through all the stuff it is right now, the LAST thing I want to feel about any aspect of the Blazer organization is that there is a lack of focus or planning.

PLEASE change the homepage back to what the Fans are used to seeing when they open up their favorite website :) the changes you've made help nothing.

Also, I think it would be awesome if anyone who reads this and agrees that the homepage change is a bad one would take a minute to post their feelings about it on this thread... Hopefully if enough people voice their discomfort with the new look, the web designer will take the 5 minutes it took him to make the change, and change it back.
Here's my statement/request to the web designer, let me know if you guys support it:

"The new look to [http://www.nba.com/blazers/?tmd=1] is HORRIBLE! Please change it to something more similair to the former design.
The Headline section used to have a black background, and an interactive feature that would respond as you moved your mouse over each article. Now it is a white background, no interactive features, less imagery, and a simple floating list on the far right side showing headlines and recent forum posts. The blogger section, that used to sit below the Headlines section (which made more sense, since mouses primarily scroll vertically not horizontally) is now crammed into the Headline section, to make room for a Social Media section below. The social media section seems unnecessarily large, especially since it still sits low enough on the homepage that most viewers will have to scroll down or they'll miss it when they click above on links for forums/blogs/etc. The most bothersome new feature, however, is the drastic contrast between the black background for the top of the page, the white background for the middle of the page, and the gray background for the bottom of the page. This is inconsistent and does not seem like professional quality.

The visual appearance of the new design is tacky and speaks to either low-quality work, or rushed work.

WebDesigner: This new homepage design risks alienating the viewers that have long been familiar with the Trailblazer's homepage. PLEASE CHANGE THE DESIGN to something more similair to the former design of the homepage. Thank you. We look forward to the improvements."

Ok the homepage isn't that bad. Plus it might actually get more people on the message boards because now the message board has it's own tab. I first found it through googling and now it's super easy to find.
