Trail Blazers (27-31) vs Warriors (22-34)

Injury Update via Trail Blazers PR-
Portland forward LaMarcus Aldridge continues to experience soreness in his right hip. Today, Aldridge and team trainer Jay Jensen will travel to Vail, CO for further evaluation by Dr. Marc Phillipon.  Aldridge will miss today's practice and is listed as questionable for tomorrow's game vs. Golden State.
An update on LaMarcus via Joe Freeman-
LaMarcus Aldridge will not play tonight vs Warriors. || J.J. Hickson will start in place of LaMarcus Aldridge.
    And this tidbit on Batum-
Batum went through shootaround but is a gametime decision.
The last time J.J. Hickson got the start in place of LaMarcus Aldridge, he nearly led the team to victory on the road against the Clippers and posterized every and anyone in sight. When the dust had settled, Hickson scored a season-high 29 points, on 13-19 shooting, and grabbed 13 rebounds against the frontline of DeAndre Jordan and Blake Griffin. Tonight, he'll be up against the likes of rookie Jeremy Tyler and veteran David Lee -- neither known for their lock down defense. Both teams will be without key players so whichever team can get a couple of guys rolling should walk away victorious tonight.

And if you remember the last meeting between the two teams, it was second-round pick, Charles Jenkins, leading the charge for the Warriors, as he scored a career-high 27 points, on 13-22 shooting, to go along with his 6 assists. Golden State also features another rookie in their backcourt, former Washington State Cougar, Klay Thompson who has caught fire since being inserted into the starting lineup. In 19 starts, Thompson has averaged 16.8 points, on 42.8% shooting from the floor, 38.7% from 3, and 92.3% from the charity stripe in 31.7 minutes per night.

Also of note, Joel Przybilla needs just two blocks to move past Jerome Kersey for 4th Place All-Time in franchise history. With the Warriors a pretty small team, it may be tough for Przy to get a lot of run tonight as the matchup favors a smaller Trail Blazers lineup, but if the Wariors take it inside with The Thrilla manning the middle, you already know he's sending that back into the stands!

If last night wasn't it, this is surely the nail in the coffin game. If Aldridge doesn't play hopefully we see more or Craig Smith. He's itching to get out there and prove himself. Come on Kaleb!! The Rhino must eat!!

I agree. I really want to see the Rhino feast out there. I know everyone is in love with the new flavor of the month, JJ Hickson, but that was the Rhino back in January. No, he wasn't posterizing people left and right but he worked hard under the glass and was good with his back to the basket. Don't get me wrong, I like J.J., but have never fell off the Rhino bandwagon and would love to see him come back next season.

Hah! The San Francisco Giants started their year 1-3. Don't feel so hot down in the bay area does it?

golden state is a perfect team to toss in 4 guards with babbit at the center and practice how not to screw up a fast break, hopefully matthews can be involved and learn a thing or 2.

Crawford will get the pub for his season-high 34 points, but it was Hickson who always had the hustle play to tip the ball in or keep the play alive which allowed the Trail Blazers to take the season series. Once again he took advantage of the start, scoring 23 points, on 10-17 shooting, grabbing 13 rebounds, handing out 3 assists and even blocked a shot. The 23 & 13 comes on the heels of his 29 & 13 just a few days ago in Los Angeles. If LA is sidelined for the rest of the season, I think the Blazers are in safe hands with J.J. at the helm. The only issue here is that with each passing performance, Hickson's price tag on the open market continues to skyrocket.

    Post-Game Quotes:
Coach Kaleb Canales on playing without Aldridge-

“One thing about LaMarcus is he’s very unselfish. We’re trying to put him in positions to succeed but he makes reads and he makes basketball plays and that’s something that we emphasize to our whole team – when we share the ball and we pass the ball and we become a good-shot offense, it allows guys to get in rhythm.”
Jamal Crawford on single-handily outshooting the Warriors from the free throw line-
“I didn’t know that. I was just trying to be aggressive. I think especially recently in the last month or so, I’ve either been taking tough shots when I first get in the game, getting behind the eight ball, whether it’s me taking a tough shot or shot clock or whatever, so tonight I wanted to a conscious effort and get an easy one. Getting to the free throw line and seeing the ball go through the net, when you get that, it helps establish a rhythm.”
    Crawford on winning without Aldridge-
It’s big. LA’s our All Star, our franchise player – unquestioned. He’s done so much already in the season, we just want to see him get healthy. But for now, everybody has to step up. Even though I had a big scoring game, it’s never about me. It’s about our team. Ray quarterbacked us. Wesley hit some big shots. Przy had some crucial rebounds. JJ was great. Everybody that came in played a part in this. You win as a team and you lose as a team.”
    Coach Canales on J.J. Hickson-
We’re excited to have JJ. His activity level on both ends is something we’re excited about. He plays with activity and speed on defense. He runs the floor really well. He put up a great stat line, but beyond that, he just had a lot of game winning plays tonight.”

Warriors on the charge late in this game, good job by the Blazers to close this thing out.

I would really like to know how J.J. Hickson ended up with 0 steals, when that video up above clearly shows him stealing the ball, giving it to Felton, and running down the court for the alley-oop. The people who did stats in this game need to pay more attention apparently.
