    April 6th, 2012
5:30 PM | American Airlines Arena | Dallas, TX
Trail Blazers (26-29) At Mavericks (31-24)

The Trail Blazers and Mavericks will get to know one another quite well over the next seven days as the two teams will do battle in Dallas on April 6th then meet up once again in Portland on the 13th. There was only one other meeting between Dallas and Portland this season -- a 97-94 Maverick victory back on February 11th in Big D, where LaMarcus Aldridge's 33 points and 12 rebounds just wasn't enough for the win. Speaking of playing in Dallas, there hasn't been another arena, recently, which has gave the Trail Blazers more fits than the American Airlines Arena. Dating back to 99-00. Portland is just 4-27 in their last 31 games, including the post-season, in Dallas. That doesn't bode well for a Trail Blazers squad that struggles mightily away from the Rose City, posting a 7-19 record -- 5th worst in the NBA.

On paper, historically, whatever, you name it...the Mavericks should win this game. They are 20-9 at home, fighting to stay out of the eighth seed, and quite frankly, have the Trail Blazers' number as of late. But last time I checked, games were not played on paper or simulated. And for a team like Portland who struggles on the road, a quick start will go a long way. If Dallas jumps out of the gate, it could be over before halftime. But, as we saw in road games at OKC and Los Angles (twice), if you let the Trail Blazers hang around, they will take the game down to the wire. Portland hasn't been able to close out one of the close games on the road...yet, but they should be due for one if they can withstand an early offensive barrage from Dirk and the Mavs.

For Portland to win, they need to score. I know Coach Canales preaches defense, but it seems like whenever this team is having a good offensive night, it carries over to the defensive end of the floor. Goal No. 1 - Score 100. Goal No. 2 - Defend. The. Three. Dallas is loaded with shooters: Dirk, JET, Marion, Beaubois, Vince Carter, Delonte West. When a team has that many shooters, it makes it difficult to double down on a great post player, which Dallas has in Nowitzki. With that said, Goal No. 3 is denying Dirk. And this falls on Aldridge's shoulders. He needs to get up in Dirk's face and play him tight and aggressive. If the officials are calling the game tight, that plan may not be as effective, but it's worth a shot to try out at the beginning. Because as we saw in the playoffs last year, if you let Dirk live at the line it's nearly impossible to stop this Mavericks squad. If LA can force Dirk to shoot under 50% from the floor and keep him off the free-throw line (max. 8 attempts), the Trail Blazers will be in good shape.

Injury Update: Every Trail Blazer traveled with the team, but Joel Przybilla is day-to-day with sore knees and Jason Kidd is sidelined with a strained right groin.

It will be a good day when we can expect to be in games like this again.  For now it seems like a pipe dream to beat good teams on the road other than the occasional fluke.  Hope to see continued consistency from our bench/up and comers in this one.

If our team can play like they've been playing (24 assists on 37 baskets? Are you KIDDING? That is AWESOME!), I see no reason why we couldn't pull off the upset in Dallas. LaMarcus showed us multiple times last year that he's not afraid to play big there, in fact you could argue that one of his most BEASTLY games in his career was in Dallas. Cmon, Blazers. Team ball = most exciting to watch = WIN.

DO NOT fall into rhythm with Dallas and start taking jumpshots. DO NOT try to play 1 on 1 basketball with one of the best defensive teams in the west. DO NOT let LaMarcus try to match Dirk's style of fadeaways and off-balance shots.

TEAM BALL. Assists, cutters, and attacking the rim. The ONLY Blazer jumpshots should either be behind the arc, or after 3 or 4 passes to shake up the D.

LETS GO RIP CITY!!! GET ANGRY! PLAY SMART! PLAY YOUR GAME NOT THEIRS! GO BLAZERS

i want to see felton dish out 12dimes and nab 8-10 rebounds. plenty of lobs to aldridge/hickson without chandler holding jerseys. i'd like felton to shut up all his haters before the end of the year. i just wish EW was able to get a few dunks so he could do the jet passed the dallas bench.

If there is one Trail Blazer not phased by the American Airlines Center, it is LaMarcus Aldridge who has been on a tear in his hometown lately. Over his last three regular-season games in Dallas, LA has averaged 32 points, on 56.5% shooting from the floor, and 10.7 rebounds. We definitely need him to have another night like the ones he's had previously.

Since Rudy's on Denver now, we don't have to worry about some drunk girls walking across court during a 4th qtr. timeout, go into the Blazers huddle, and try and make out with our shooting guard.

    Post-Game Quotes:
Coach Kaleb Canales on if that was the play they drew up-

“We wanted LaMarcus to get the ball. LaMarcus is our All-Star, and he’s working his tail off. To his credit he hit a big time shot tonight.”
Coach Canales on how they turned it around at halftime-
“We’ve been talking about our defense, our team defense, and our team rebounding, and our commitment to five guys doing it at one time. And we held a very good Dallas team to 10 points in third quarter. And I thought that was the key stat of the game tonight.”
Coach Canales on the last shot-
“LaMarcus [Aldridge] is our All-Star. We’re going to go to LaMarcus. LaMarcus hit a big shot. Big time player, big time shot.”
Delonte West on Ray Felton's performance tonight-
“Our pick and roll defense hurt us tonight. He had a good shooting night. He got hot making a lot of three-pointers and this is the NBA and when a guy gets rolling it’s hard to stop. But I don’t think that was the deciding factor in the game.”

Pigs flew, hell froze over, and when the fat lady sang...we had beaten a +500 team in OT on the road. Hallelujah, I am born again.

The refs tried to stop us, but the karma boomerang was in full swing! For a change the Blazers prevail against all odds! Woot woot OT win against Dallas! Take that refs, take that NBA! Blazer fans are gonna enjoy every minute of it! Just admit that call was wrong too! A stressful, but good night to be a Blazer! :)

Not DPOY. All American. Player of the year in his conference twice. Past four years, McCollum, Muscala, McCollum, Muscala.

sign Iggy for 8-9M, Batum at the two, and Wesley off the bench! Draft Steven Adams (who loves contact, grew up playing rug-bee). Sounds NICE!

Im not impressed with Gortat. Everyone wants him but he seems mediorcre to me. He is the most realistic option since all it would take is the 10th pick, but I think he is old and declining.
